Progressive osseous heteroplasia(POH)is an ultra-rare autosomal dominant disabling disorder characterized by heterotopic ossification(HO).It is caused by heterozygous inactivating mutations in the GNAS(guanine nucleotide-binding protein alpha-stimulating activity polypeptide)***,the molecular mechanisms underlying HO remain poorly *** a treatment for POH is not yet available,the identification of the mechanisms driving POH in affected tissues using gene expression may be of great help to underestand the molecular basis of POH and develop new therapeutic approaches.

Evaluation of Pesticide Residues in Mango by a Multi-residue Analysis and GC/MS Triple Quadrupole

Mango fruit has a great national and international market, and Brazilian production is 1,900 thousand tons/year exporting to North America and Europe. However, the loss could occur during the production when it is affected by pests and climate conditions, so the increased use of chemical substances and their presence should be monitored. A task for governmental agencies, producers and food sales, attending the sanitary barriers requirements, is to distribute food free from contaminants, so laboratories involved in this type of work usually employ multi-residues analysis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of pesticide residues in mango using QuEChERS method and mass spectrometry technique. Positive samples were compared with Brazilian maximum residues level （MRL） and the health risk exposure was evaluated using the acute dietary intake （ADI） parameter. A total of 20 samples were collected from January to March, in Sao Paulo city markets. The recoveries were in the range of 70% to 120%, and standard deviation was below 20%. The category of pesticides not permitted for the crop were found in l0 samples; eight samples presented pesticides below MRL and two samples above MRL for the fungicide procloraz. The ADI values were below 20% of ADI for an adult and the worst case was dimethoate with 69% of ADI for children. The time spent in monitoring studies and the viability of method chosen must be considered by pesticide residues laboratories during routine analysis of food quality control.

FEM Edge Effect and Capacitance Evaluation on Cylindrical Capacitors

The purpose of this paper is to show the influence of the edge-effect on the electric field distribution, and hence on the inner capacitance and outer capacitance of a cylindrical capacitor surrounded by an insulating medium. To generalize the results, a two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model of a cylindrical capacitor has been generated and the problem has been resolved taking into account the distance between the conductors for a complete set of dimensions. The available obtained results have been compared with previous published works. Finally, using statistical tools, the mathematical expression for computing the relationship between capacitance and insulation gap and cylindrical plates dimensions has been obtained.

Software SOLEEC Applied for Parabolic Trough Solar Collector Designing

The present work describes software SOLEEC （copyright 03-2012-070510302900-01 Mexico）, a numerical tool for PTC （parabolic trough collector） designing. Software SOLEEC is divided into two main parts. The first one allows solar resource assessment for a specific place on the Earth. The computation and assessment can be done for a specific day on the year, for one specific month and the monthly averages along the year. The last one gives annual charts such as： solar constant, Earth declination, insolation hours, and sunrise and sunset hours. The second part has four different execution options for PTC designing, that is, using options one and two user can get five different designs based on receiver outer diameter evaluating solar radiation data along the full year or only one solar radiation value （monthly）, on the other hand options three and four were developed to compute the thermal evaluation for an operating collector for twelve solar radiation values （annually） or a specific month computation, respectively.

This paper deals with a method for building a mobile robot in order to transform the material into a practical guide for beginners in the study of mobile robotics. The project is divided into layers that can define the topics related to the areas of knowledge that will be used in carrying out the project. These areas are the mechanics, electronics and computing system. The mobile robot named Fable was developed accordingly to this method. It is composed by two active wheels, each one driven by DC motor with a high torque and a transmission system containing two spur gears. It has three sonars for detection of the opponent and two infrared sensors to detect a line and an Arduino Uno board is used to control all the actions of the robot.

CURLY LEAF ( CLF) encodes the methyltransferase subunit of the Polycomb Repressor Complex 2 (PRC2), which regulates the expression of target genes through H3K27 trimethylation. We isolated a new CLF mutant allele ( clf-78) using a genetic screen designed to identify microRNA (miRNA) deficient mutants. CLF mutant plants showed impaired miRNA activity caused by increased ubiquitination and enhanced degradation of ARGONAUTE 1 (AGO1) in specific tissues. Such CLF-mediated AGO1 regulation was evident when plants were exposed to UV radiation, which caused increased susceptibility of clf mutants to some UV-induced responses. Furthermore, we showed that CLF directly regulates FBW2, which in turn triggers AGO1 degradation in the clf mutants. Interestingly, AGO1 bound to a target appeared particularly prone to degradation in the mutant plants, a process that was exacerbated when the complex bound a non-cleavable target. Thus, prolonged AGO1–target interaction seems to favor AGO1 degradation, suggesting that non-cleavable miRNA targets may overcome translation inhibition by modulating AGO1 stability in plants.

Lepidium meyenii (Maca) reduces spermatogenic damage induced by a single dose of malathion in mice

Aim: To observe the effect of the aqueous extract of hypocotyls of the plant Lepidium meyenii (Maca) on spermato-genic damage induced by the organophosphate insecticide malathion in mice. Methods: Mice were treated with 80 mg kg^(-1) of malathion in the presence or absence of an aqueous extract of Maca, which was orally administered 7, 14 or 21 days after injection of the malathion. Stages of the seminiferous epithelium were assessed by transillumination on days 0, 7, 14 and 21. Results: The administration of Maca increased significantly the length of stage 鈪?on days 7, 14 and 21 of treatment compared with the controls. An increase in the length of stage 鈪?occurred on day 14 of treatment. Malathion affected spermatogenesis by reducing the lengths of stage 鈪?on day 7, stages 鈪?and 鈪?鈪?on day 14 and a recovery of stages 鈪?鈪?on day 21. The magnitude of alteration in the length of stage 鈪?produced by malathion was significantly reduced by Maca on days 7 and 14. The length of stage 鈪?was increased when Maca was administered to mice treated with malathion. Assessment of the relative length of stages of the seminiferous epithelium showed that Maca treatment resulted in rapid recovery of the effect of malathion. Conclusion: Maca enhances spermatogenesis following spermatogenic damage caused by the organophosphorous pesticide.

The objective of this paper is to present the result of a research of images and messages addressed to pet owners, posted in news and advertising websites in Brazilian cyberspace in the period between 2005 and 2012. There are a wide variety of pet products and services, similar to those available to the human being and note that pet care industry address the posts to pet owners and the messages intend to motivate the emotions and feelings for the animals, in a sentimental anthropomorphism process. The marketing messages are similar to those of products shaped to induce a person to buy luxury products. Market social interaction is driven by both the human-animal bond and the pet care market campaigns advertisement. In many situations, people interact with pet as a person or a member of the family, as a unique and special living being. The authors conclude that in families which people and animal interacts, new meanings emerge from this contact.

Ultimate Strength Assessment of a Tanker Hull Based on Experimentally Developed Master Curves

A geometrically similar scaling was made from small-scale specimen to full-scale stiffened panels and then their collapse behaviour is investigated. It is considered that the stiffened panel compressive ultimate strength test was designed according to geometrical scaling laws so that the output of the test could be used as representative of the stiffened panels of the compressive zone of a tanker hull subjected to vertical bending moment. The ultimate strength of a tanker hull is analysed by a FE analysis using the experimentally developed master stress-strain curves which are obtained by the beam tension test and the compressive test of the stiffened panel, and are then compared with the result achieved by the progressive collapse method.
