The Effect of Blade Outlet Angle on Performance and Internal Flow Condition of Mini Turbo-Pump

Mini turbo-pumps having a diameter smaller than 100mm are employed in many fields;automobile radiator pump,ventricular assist pump,cooling pump for electric devices,washing machine pump and so ***,the needs for mini turbo-pumps would become larger with the increase of the application of it for electrical *** is desirable that the mini turbo-pump design is as simple as possible due to restriction to make precise *** the design method for the mini turbo-pump is not established because the internal flow condition for these small-sized fluid machineries is not clarified and conventional theory is not conductive for small-sized *** types of rotors with different outlet angles are prepared for an experiment and a numerical *** performance tests are conducted with these rotors in order to investigate the effect of the blade outlet angle on performance and internal flow condition of mini *** is clarified from the experimental results that head of the mini turbo-pump increases and maximum efficiency flow rate shifts to larger flow rate according to the increase of the blade outlet angle,however the maximum efficiency decreases with the increase of *** the present paper,the performance of the mini turbo-pump is shown and the internal flow conditions are clarified with the results of the experiment and the numerical flow ***,the effects of the blade outlet angle on the performance are investigated and high performance design with simple structure for the mini turbo-pump would be considered.

Small-sized axial fans are used as air coolers for electric *** there is a strong demand for higher power of fans according to the increase of quantity of heat from electric ***,higher rotational speed design is conducted,although it causes the deterioration of the efficiency and the increase of *** the adoption of contra-rotating rotors for the small-sized axial fan is proposed for the improvement of the *** the present paper,the performance and the internal flow condition of the small-sized axial fan are shown as a first step of the research for the contra-rotating small-sized axial fan and the important points to apply contra-rotating rotors to the small-sized axial fan are ***,the numerical flow analysis is conducted to investigate the performance of the contra-rotating small-sized axial fan and internal flow conditions and pressure distributions are clarified and the effect of contra-rotating rotors is considered.

Relationship between Primary Crystal Temperature and Carbon Equivalent in Cast Iron

CE （=%C＋（1/3）x（%Si）） does not suit experiment results in many cases. In this work, the effect of alloy elements on primary crystal temperature was measured and the relationship between primary crystal temperature （Tc） and carbon equivalent （CEL） was investigated. The results show that Tc （Celsius degree） = 1650-110 × （%C） -25 × （%Si）＋3 × （%Mn） -35 × （%P） -71 × （%5）-2 × （%Ni） -7 × （%Cr）; CEL=%C ＋ 0.23×（%Si）-0.03× （%Mn）＋0.32×（%P）＋0.64×（%S）＋0.02×（%Ni）＋0.06×（%Cr）. That is, in hypo eutectic composition, carbon equivalent should be calculated with CEL=%C＋ 0.23×（%Si）, not with CE=%C＋（1/3） x（%Si）.

Lagrangian and Eulerian Statistics from Direct Numerical Simulations of Turbulent Channel Flow

Lagrangian and Eulerian statistics are obtained from the direct numerical simulation of a turbulent channel flow. The Reynolds number is obtained to be Reτ = 100 （based on friction velocity and channel half-height）. The Lagrangian time microscales are compared to their Eulerian equivalents. It is found that the Lagrangian time microscales equal the Eulerian time microscales at the wall, but they are consistently larger than the Eulerian away from the wall. The Eulerian time scales are also found to be scaled by the propagation velocity rather than the mean velocity. The ratio of the Lagrangian to the Eulerian time microscales is found to be nearly constant away from the wall （y^＋〉 40）.

Study of Inner-Shell Excitation and Relaxation Processes in Atomic and Ionic Neon by Means of Soft X-Ray Spectroscopy

By using soft X-ray spectroscopy, we investigate the inner-shell excitation and relaxation processes in atomic and ionic neon targets. Resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy was applied to neutral neon atom in the regions of the [1s]np （n = 3, 4,…, ε） excited states and [1s2p]3pmp （m = 3,4） doubly excited states to obtain the spectroscopic information on the [2p]np and [2p^2]3prnp final electronic states, where square brackets indicate hole states. The energy levels of the [2p^2]3prnp （m = 3,4） electronic states were spectroscopically measured for the first time. As for the ionic neon target, on the other hand, the photoion yield spectroscopy was adopted to survey the 1s→ np （n = 2, 3） resonant excitation and subsequent Auger decay processes for Ne^＋ target-ions. The observed Ne^2＋ photoion yield spectrum is successflllly explained by the theoretical calculations based on the nmlticonfiguration Dirac-Fock method

Blood transfusions are regarded as the most well-known and frequently performed cell *** current transfusion systems are sophisticated,they cannot be freed from the inherent difficulties that include infection,short shelf life,and blood type *** oxygen carriers produced using hemoglobin(Hb)are designated as Hb-based oxygen carriers(HBOCs),which are anticipated for use as biomaterials that have potential to resolve issues of transfusion by a radical paradigm *** HBOCs,nanometer-sized to micrometer-sized bioparticles having an oxygen-carrying function,are developed for use as substitutes for red blood cells(RBCs).This paper presents an overview of the classification of HBOCs with reference to their histories,preparations,structures,functions,and in vitro and in vivo ***,we give a more detailed introduction of our academic studies of liposome encapsulated Hb,designated as Hb-vesicles(HbV),which mimic the physiologically important corpuscular structure of *** review outlines perennial efforts and approaches to mimic RBC functions through chemical,genetic,and encapsulation *** will provide important insights into the eventual realization of an alternative for RBC transfusion.

Unsteady Flow Analysis of an Axial Flow Hydraulic Turbine with Collection Devices Comprising a Different Number of Blades

We previously devised a new type of portable hydraulic turbine that uses the kinetic energy of an open-channel flow to improve output power by catching and accelerating the flow. The turbine contains an axial flow runner with an appended collection device and a diffuser section that is not axisymmetric. The objective of this study is to determine how interference between the collection device and the runner influences performance characteristics of the turbine. We investigated the performance characteristics of the turbine and flow field for different numbers of blades during both unsteady and steady flow. During an unsteady flow, the maximum values of power coefficients for three and two blades increased by approximately 8.8% and 21.4%, respectively, compared to those during a steady flow. For the three-blade runner, the power coefficient showed small fluctuations, but for the two-blade runner, the power coefficient showed large fluctuations. These fluctuations in the power coefficient are attributed to fluctuations in the loading coefficient, which were generated by interference between the runner and the diffuser section of the collection device.

Finding the right balance between timber production and the management of forest-dependent wildlife species,present a difficult challenge for forest resource managers and policy makers in Okinawa,Japan.A possible explanation of this can be found in the unique nature of the forest management area which is populated with various kinds of rare and endangered *** issue has been brought to light as a result of the nomination of northern Okinawa Island in 2018 as a candidate for World Natural Heritage *** nomination has raised public awareness to the possibility of conflicting management objectives between timber extraction and the conservation of habitat for forest-dependent wildlife *** exclusively for one objective over the other may fail to meet the demand for both forest products and wildlife habitat,ultimately jeopardizing the stability of human and wildlife *** is therefore important to achieve a better balance between the objective of timber production and conservation of wildlife *** the significance of this subject area,current ongoing discussions on how to effectively manage for forest resources,often lack scientific basis to make sound judgement or evaluate tradeoffs between conflicting *** the effect of these forest management activities on wildlife habitat provides useful and important information needed to make forest management and policy *** this study we develop a spatial timber harvest scheduling model that incorporates habitat suitability index(HSI)models for the Okinawa Rail(Gallirallus okinawae),an endangered avian species found on Okinawa,*** illustrate how the proposed coupling model assembles spatial information,which ultimately aids the study of forest management effects on wildlife habitat,we apply these models to a forest area in Okinawa and conduct a simple simulation analysis.

Experimental Study and Finite Element Polycrystal Model Simulation of the Cold Rolling Textures in a Powder Metallurgy Processed Pure Aluminum Plate

Ingot metallurgy (IM) aluminum has long been the subject and attracted the attention of many metallurgists and textural researchers of materials. Due to the introduction of large amounts of ex situ interfaces, however, the textures in powder metallurgy (PM) processed aluminum has been rarely reported. In this article, a pure aluminum plate was prepared via PM route. The starting billet was first produced with uni-axially cold compaction and flat hot-extrusion and then followed by cold rolling processes. The hot-extruded and cold rolling deformation textures of the pure PM aluminum at 50%, 80% and 90% cold rolling reductions were studied by orientation distribution functions (ODFs) analysis. The finite element polycrystal model (FEPM) was finally utilized to simulate the cold rolling textural evolution at various stages of cold rolling. In FEPM simulation, the initial hot-extruded textures were taken into account as inputs. The results showed that typical β-fiber texture formed in pure PM aluminum with the cold rolling reduction increased till 80%, and there was not much change after excessive cold rolling deformation. Homogeneous slip is not the only deformation mode in PM processed pure aluminum plate at over 80% cold rolling reduction. The experimental results were qualitatively in good agreement with the simulated ones.
