After cerebral ischemia, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are mobilized and travel from the bone marrow through peripheral circulation to the focal point of ischemia to initiate tissue regeneration. However, the number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells mobilized into peripheral circulation is not enough to exert therapeutic effects, and the method by which blood circulation is promoted to remove blood stasis influences stem cell homing. The main ingredient of Xuesaitong capsules is Panax notoginseng saponins, and Xuesaitong is one of the main drugs used for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. We established rat models of cerebral infarction by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery and then intragastrically administered Xuesaitong capsules（20, 40 and 60 mg/kg per day） for 28 successive days. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay showed that in rats with cerebral infarction, middle- and high-dose Xuesaitong significantly increased the level of stem cell factors and the number of CD117-positive cells in plasma and bone marrow and significantly decreased the number of CD54-and CD106-positive cells in plasma and bone marrow. The effect of low-dose Xuesaitong on these factors was not obvious. These findings demonstrate that middle- and high-dose Xuesaitong and hence Panax notoginseng saponins promote and increase the level and mobilization of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in peripheral blood.

Effect of acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6) on cardiac function using echocardiography in myocardial ischemia rats induced by isoproterenol

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) on cardiac function using echocardiography in rat models of myocardial ischemia(MI) induced by isoproterenol(ISO).METHODS: Twenty-seven Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to normal, model, and acupuncture groups. The model and acupuncture groups were given injections of ISO(85 mg/kg) to establish the MI model. After model establishment,the acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) for 30 min. Echocardiography was used to monitor diastolic and systolic function for 30 min starting from the time after the acupuncture needles were removed. Changes in the length of left ventricular internal diameter at end-diastole(LVIDd), length of left ventricular internal diameter at end-systole(LVIDs), the ratio of mitral peak velocity at early diastole and atrial contraction(E/A), ejection fraction(EF), fractional shortening(FS), and stroke volume(SV) were ***: Compared with the model group at 0and 15 min after needles were removed, the means of LVIDd and LVIDs were significantly lower(P <0.01) and E/A, EF, FS, and SV significantly higher(P < 0.01) in the acupuncture group. In the acupuncture group, the means of LVIDd and LVIDs15 min after the needles were removed were significantly higher(P < 0.01) than those at 0 min. The means of E/A, EF, FS, and SV significantly decreased(P < 0.01) from 0 to 15 min in the acupuncture ***: These findings indicate that acupuncture at Neiguan(PC 6) can affect cardiac function by increasing left ventricular diastolic and systolic function in MI rat models, but the effect only lasts for 15 min.

Effectiveness of ZiYin Xiehuo granules and Zishen Qinggan granules on partial precocious puberty in girls: a multicenter, randomized, single-blind, controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of ZiYin Xiehuo granules(ZYXH) and Zishen Qinggan granules(ZSQG) on partial precocious puberty(PPP).METHODS: This was a multicenter, randomized, single-blind, positive-controlled trial. A total of 143 pa-tients were assigned to either the ZYXH group or the ZSQG group using a random number table. The ZYXH group received ZYXH three times daily for 6 months and the ZSQG group received ZSQG three times daily for 6 months. Mammary nucleus diameter; the results of uterus, ovarian, and maximum follicle measures; and chinese medicine symptom pattern scores were compared at baseline and after 3 months and 6 months of ***: After 3 months' treatment, there were no significant differences between the two groups in mammary nucleus index changes(left 3.4 ± 3.1 vs3.5 ± 3.1, P = 0.790; right 3.0 ± 2.9 vs 3.6 ± 3.0, P =0.719). The uterine volume in the ZYXH group was smaller than that in the ZSQG group(2.1 ± 1.6 vs2.6 ± 2.2, P = 0.006). There were no significant between-group differences in ovarian volume and maximum follicular diameter on either side(ovarian volume: left 1.2 ± 0.7 vs 1.3 ± 0.6, P = 0.8; right1.2 ± 0.7 vs 1.4 ± 1.1, P = 0.984; maximum follicular diameter: left 3.9 ± 1.7 vs 3.5 ± 2.2, P = 0.158; right3.5 ± 1.7 vs 3.9 ± 2.1, P = 0.314).CONCLUSION: ZYXH granules and ZSQG granules both affected the size of the mammary nucleus in girls with PPP, and improved chinese medicine symptom patterns. ZYXH granules showed slight advantages over ZSQG granules in terms of the decrease in the size of the uterus, ovaries, and ovarian follicles.

Optimal electroacupuncture frequency for maintaining astrocyte structural integrity in cerebral ischemia

The astrocyte is a critical regulator of neuronal survival after ischemic brain injury. Electroacupuncture may be an effective therapy for cerebral ischemia, as electroacupuncture frequency can affect the structural integdty of astrocytes. In this study, a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion established using the modified thread embolism method was treated with electroacupuncture of the bilateral Quchi （Llll） and Zusanfi （ST36） at 15, 30, and 100 Hz frequencies. Behavioral testing, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy were used to explore the effect of these electroacupuncture frequencies used on maintaining the structural integrity of ischemic brain tissue. Compared with the model and 100 Hz electroacupuncture groups the 15 and 30 Hz electroacupuncture groups displayed decreased neurological deficit scores, as evaluated by the ＂Longa＂ method, significantly increased glial fibrillary acidic protein expression, and alleviated ultrastructural damage of astrocytes at the edge of the infarct. Our experimental findings indicate that 15 and 30 Hz electroacupuncture intervention can favorably maintain the structural integrity of astrocytes and play a protective role in cerebral ischemic injury. Astrocyte structural integrity may be the mechanism underlying acupuncture production of ischemic tolerance

Clinical Observation on the Treatment of Chronic Urticaria with Total Glucosides of Paeony Capsule Combined with Citirizine

Objective： To assess the effect and adverse reaction of total glucosides of paeony capsule （TGPC） in combining with citirizine for the treatment of chronic urticaria. Methods： A total of 120 patients were assigned to two groups by lottery, 65 in the treated group and 55 in the control group. They all were orally treated with citirizine tablet 10 mg per day, but to the treated group, additional 0.2 g TGPC was given three times per day, the therapeutic course for both groups was 4 weeks. The effectiveness of treatment was observed, and the changes of total symptom score, serum levels of interleukin-4 （IL-4）, and immunoglobulin E （IgE） were measured before and after treatment. Moreover, a follow- up was carded out one month after ending the treatment. Results： The dropped cases were two in the treated group and seven in the control group; so, the study was accomplished on 63 patients in the treated group and 48 patients in the control group. The total effective rate was assessed at 73.02% （46/63） in the treated group, which was significantly higher than 47.92% （23/48） in the control group （P〈0.01）. After treatment, the total symptom score decreased in both groups, but the decrement in the treated group was more significant （P〈0.05）. Serum levels of IL-4 and IgE in the treated group lowered significantly, while the changes in the control group were insignificant, so statistical significant differences were shown between groups （P〈0.01）. A follow-up study showed that the relapse rate in the treated group was 30.00% （6/20）, while that in the control group was 90.00% （9/10）, and the former was lower than the latter （P〈0.01）. Adverse reactions, revealed as drowsiness, dizziness, and weakness, were seen in eight cases and seven cases in the two groups, respectively. Besides, mild diarrhea occurred in two cases of the treated group. Enhancement of radiosensitivity of lung adenocarcinoma using a decoction from the Fuzhengzengxiao formula

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of a decoction of Fuzhengzengxiao formula on lung adenocarcinoma regarding the inflammatory protein S100A9 known to enhance cancer cell ***: A nude mouse model of human lung adenocarcinoma was established. The mice were randomly divided into four groups using the random number table method: Group Ⅰ, control;Group Ⅱ, treatment with a decoction of the Fuzhengzengxiao formula alone; Group Ⅲ, treatment with radiotherapy alone; and Group Ⅳ, treatment with radiotherapy plus a decoction of Fuzhengzengxiao formula. When the tumor body was 1 cm^3 in diameter, the tumor bearing mice in GroupsⅢ and Ⅳ were irradiated at a single dose of 10 Gy and the tumor inhibition rate was *** expression of S100A9 was determined using Western blotting and q-PCR(Real-time Quantitative PCR Detecting System). The sensitivity of cells containing RNAi S100A9 to radiotherapy was evaluated using the Click multiple target model,and the cell cycle was analyzed using flow ***: Relative to the control group,the expression of S100A9 in the tumors in each treatment group was decreased,especially in Group Ⅳ. Pure Total Flavonoids from Citrus paradisi Macfad InduceLeukemia Cell Apoptosis In Vitro

Objective： To investigate the potential effect of pure total flavonoids from Citrus paradisi Macfad peel（PTFC） on the proliferation and apoptosis of human myeloid leukemia cells Kasumi-1, HL-60 and K562, and the underlying mechanisms. Methods： PTFC was extracted from Citrus paradisi Macfad peel and was identified by high performance liquid chromatography. The effect of PTFC on the proliferation and apoptosis of leukemia cells were determined by 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, fluorescent microscopy and flow cytometry, respectively. The effect of PTFC on the expression levels of apoptosis-related regulators was determined by Western blot assay. Results： Treatment with PTFC inhibited leukemia cell proliferation in a dose-and time-dependent manner and triggered Kasumi-1 cell apoptosis. Treatment with PTFC significantly increased the levels of activated poly adenosine diphosphate-ribosepolymerase and caspase-3/-9, but reduced the levels of Mcl-1 expression in Kasumi-1 cells. However, PTFC did not obviously induce HL-60 cell apoptosis. Conclusion： PTFC inhibited leukemia cell proliferation and induced their apoptosis by modulating apoptosisrelated regulator expression in leukemia cells in vitro.
