Campus Vibration in Nanwangshan Campus,china university of Geosciences at wuhan Monitored by Short-Period Seismometers

Continuous seismic observations can record seismic waveforms, and ambient noise, for the purposes of earthquake researches and other applications. Here we deploy three digital seismometers(EPS-2) in and around the Nanwangshan Campus of the china university of Geosciences(wuhan). This network was running from April 9 to May 9 of 2018. During this period, the seismometers recorded the May 4, 2018 M6.9 Hawaii earthquake. From the recorded waveforms, we could observe clearly the P and S arrivals, and the corresponding particle motions. Analysis of continuous observations of ambient noise shows obvious fluctuation of vibration intensity inside of the campus. The campus is quietest from 0 to 5 am. From 5 am on, the vibration intensity increases, and reaches the peak of entire day at 12 am. The amplitude then decreases to a very low level at 19:30 to 20:00 pm, and reaches another strong noisy time at 21:00 to 21:30 pm. After 21:30 pm, the intensity goes down slowly. We also observed seismic signals that were generated by the interaction of speed-control hump cars and ground. By taking the envelope and smooth operations, we observe different characteristics for different car speeds, which suggests that seismic monitoring approaches can be used for speed measurement of cars. This kind of small seismic network running in a real time fashion, would greatly help understanding of the sources of ambient noise at high frequency bands in interested areas. Analysis of a long-term observed dataset, and real time illustration will help to strengthen campus security and high-precision laboratory deployments, and also contribute to research atmosphere in earthquake science.

Evaluation of semen quality in 1808 university students, from wuhan, Central china

The aim of this study was to evaluate the semen quality of university students in wuhan, the largest city in the world in terms of the number of university students. All student sperm donors recorded in the Hubei Province Human Sperm Bank from 1 March 2010 to 31 December 2013 were screened. At last, a total of 3616 semen samples from 1808 university student sperm donors were eligible and retrospectively analyzed. Each donor＇s semen parameters were averaged over two samples and compared with the World Health Organization criteria, and a generalized linear regression model was used to examine several determinants of semen quality. We found that the mean and median values were 3.0 ml and 2.8 ml for semen volume, 50.2 x 106 m1-1 and 50.0 x 106 m1-1 for sperm concentration, 148.1 x 106 and 142.1 x 106 for total sperm count, and 58.6% and 60.0% for total sperm motility. About 85.0% of donors had parameters that were all normal. Season and duration of abstinence were critical factors affecting semen quality. We also found a decrease in sperm concentration during the 4 years observation; however, this may not be a strong evidence to confirm the declining trend of semen quality. In conclusion, semen quality of university students in wuhan was not optimal and should be paid high attention, long-term observation and further study should be carried out to confirm the present situation.

Optical time-stretch(OTS)imaging flow cytometry offers a promising solution for high-throughput and highprecision cell analysis due to its capabilities of high-speed,high-quality,and continuous *** sensing(CS)makes it practically applicable by significantly reducing the data volume while maintaining its highspeed and high-quality imaging *** enrich the information of the images acquired with CS-equipped OTS imaging flow cytometry,in this work we propose and experimentally demonstrate Fourier-domaincompressed OTS quantitative phase imaging flow *** is capable of acquiring intensity and quantitative phase images of cells simultaneously from the compressed *** evaluate the performance of our method,static microparticles and a corn root cross section are experimentally measured under various compression ***,to show how our method can be applied in practice,we utilize it in the drug response analysis of breast cancer *** results show that our method can acquire high-quality intensity and quantitative phase images of flowing cells at a flowing speed of 1 m/s and a compression ratio of 30%.Combined with machine-learning-based image analysis,it can distinguish drug-treated and drug-untreated cells with an accuracy of over 95%.We believe our method can facilitate cell analysis in both scientific research and clinical settings where both high-throughput and high-content cell analysis is required.

Catalytic anode surface enabling in situ polymerization of gel polymer electrolyte for stable Li metal batteries

Employing quasi-solid-state gel polymer electrolyte(GPE)instead of the liquid counterpart has been regarded as a promising strategy for improving the electrochemical performance of Li metal ***,the poor and uneven interfacial contact between Li metal anode and GPE could cause large interfacial resistance and electrochemical Li stripping/plating inhomogeneity,deteriorating the electrochemical ***,we proposed that the functional component of composite anode could work as the catalyst to promote the in situ polymerization reaction,and we experimentally realized the integration of polymerized-dioxolane electrolyte and Li/Li_(22)Sn_(5)/LiF composite electrode with low interfacial resistance and good stability by in situ catalyzation ***,the reaction kinetics and stability of metallic Li anode were significantly *** a demonstration,symmetric cell using such a GPE-Li/Li_(22)Sn_(5)/LiF integration achieved stable cycling beyond 250 cycles with small potential hysteresis of 25 mV at 1 mA·cm^(−2)and 1 mAh·cm^(−2),far outperforming the counterpart regular GPE on pure *** with LiNi0.5Co0.3Mn0.2O2,the full cell with the GPE-Li/Li_(22)Sn_(5)/LiF integration maintained 85.7%of the original capacity after 100 cycles at 0.5 C(1 C=200 mA·g^(−1)).Our research provides a promising strategy for reducing the resistance between GPE and Li metal anode,and realizes Li metal batteries with enhance electrochemical performance.

Investigating the elliptic anisotropy of identified particles in p-Pb collisions with a multi-phase transport model

The elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient(v_(2))of the identified particles at midrapidity(|η|<0.8)was investigated in p-Pb collisions at√s_(NN)=5.02 TeV using a multi-phase transport model(AMPT).The calculations of differential v_(2)based on the advanced flow extraction method of light flavor hadrons(pions,kaons,protons,andΛ)in small collision systems were extended to a wider transverse momentum(p_(T))range of up to 8 GeV/c for the first *** string-melting version of the AMPT model provides a good description of the measured p_(T)-differential v_(2)of the mesons but exhibits a slight deviation from the baryon v_(2).In addition,we observed the features of mass ordering at low p_(T)and the approximate number-of-constituentquark(NCQ)scaling at intermediate p_(T).Moreover,we demonstrate that hadronic rescattering does not have a significant impact on v_(2)in p-Pb collisions for different centrality selections,whereas partonic scattering dominates in generating the elliptic anisotropy of the final *** study provides further insight into the origin of collective-like behavior in small collision systems and has referential value for future measurements of azimuthal anisotropy.

Optimizing urban block morphologies for net-zero energy cities:Exploring photovoltaic potential and urban design prototype

The morphology of urban areas plays a crucial role in determining solar potential,which directly affects photovoltaic capacity and the achievement of net-zero *** study focuses on the City of Melbourne to investigate the utilization of solar energy across different urban densities and proposes optimized *** analysis encompasses blocks with diverse population densities,examining medium and high-density *** utilizing a multi-objective genetic optimization approach,the urban morphology of these blocks is *** findings indicate that low-density blocks exhibit photovoltaic potential ranging from 1 to 6.6 times their total energy *** and high-density blocks achieve photovoltaic potential levels approximately equivalent to 40%-85%of their overall energy ***,significant variations in photovoltaic potential are observed among different urban forms within medium and high-density ***“elevated corners with central valley”prototype is proposed as an effective approach,enhancing the overall photovoltaic potential by approximately 14%.This study introduces novel analytical concepts,shedding light on the intricate relationship between urban morphologies and photovoltaic potential.

Stroke Risk Assessment Decision-Making Using a Machine Learning Model:Logistic-AdaBoost

Stroke is a chronic cerebrovascular disease that carries a high *** risk assessment is of great significance in preventing,reversing and reducing the spread and the health hazards caused by *** to objectively predict and identify strokes,this paper proposes a new stroke risk assessment decision-making model named Logistic-AdaBoost(Logistic-AB)based on machine ***,the categorical boosting(CatBoost)method is used to perform feature selection for all features of stroke,and 8 main features are selected to form a new index evaluation system to predict the risk of ***,the borderline synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE)algorithm is applied to transform the unbalanced stroke dataset into a balanced ***,the stroke risk assessment decision-makingmodel Logistic-AB is constructed,and the overall prediction performance of this new model is evaluated by comparing it with ten other similar *** comparison results show that the new model proposed in this paper performs better than the two single algorithms(logistic regression and AdaBoost)on the four indicators of recall,precision,F1 score,and accuracy,and the overall performance of the proposed model is better than that of common machine learning *** Logistic-AB model presented in this paper can more accurately predict patients’stroke risk.

Nanoforming of transferred metal contacts for enhanced twodimensional field effect transistors

Two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenides(2D-TMDs)have attracted much attention because of their unique layered structure and physical properties for transistor *** transferred metal contacts on these low-dimensional materials or their homogeneous and heterogeneous multilayers have generated huge interest to avoid deposition *** this paper,we show that there are large physical gaps at both the edge contact and surface contact between the transferred electrodes and the 2D materials.A method called laser shock induced superplastic deformation(LSISD)is proposed to tackle this issue and enhance the performance of the *** enhancement mechanism was investigated by molecular dynamics(MD)simulations of the nanoforming process,atomic force microscopy(AFM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)characterizations of the interfaces,and density functional theory(DFT)*** force effect of laser shock can reduce the contact gap between metals and *** electrical performances of the transistors before and after LSISD,along with MD simulations,are used to find the optimal process *** addition,this paper applies the LSISD method to the short-channel MoS_(2)/graphene vertical transistors to show potential improvement in interface contact and electrical *** paper demonstrates the first report on using mechanical force induced by laser shock to enhance metal–semiconductor interfaces and transistor performances.

A newly unraveled 13.6-year oscillation from GPS displacements and its potential implications for the dynamic reference frame

Numerous practical geodetic and geophysical applications necessitate precise measurements of GNSS displacements at the millimeter or sub-millimeter level. To attain such precision, it is imperative to identify and analyze the unidentified decadal signals inherent in the GPS displacements. In this research, we employ the optimal sequence estimation method to effectively detect an about 13.6-year oscillational signal with an excited amplitude of 3.6±1.2 mm in the U-components of the GPS displacements. It is noteworthy that this signal demonstrates a consistent spatial pattern characterized by the spherical harmonic Y_(2,-2). We conduct a comparative analysis with the 13.6-year oscillation observed in length-of-day variations(and geomagnetic records), finding that they are in reverse phase. After eliminating the Earth's external excitation sources through the utilization of two distinct in-situ hydrological records, we suggest that the 13.6-year GPS signal may come from the internal motions within the Earth. However, the specific excitation source and the detailed physical mechanism remain uncertain. Additionally, we develop a mathematical displacement model to explain the 13.6-year signal. Our findings indicate that this signal can result in displacements of up to 1.37 mm and velocity effects of 0.63 mm/yr(for U-component) at maximum. These results underscore the necessity of incorporating this 13.6-year signal into the construction and maintenance of a dynamic reference frame at the millimeter level.
