AIM： To evaluate the usefulness of denaturing high performance liquid chromatography （DHPLC） for analyzing microsatellite instability （MSI） status in stool DNA of patients with colorectal cancer. METHODS： A total of 80 cancer tissues from patients with primary sporadic colorectal tumor （proximal cancer： 27, distal cancer： 53） and matched stool （which were employed for comparison with the tissues） were analyzed for MSI status in BAT 26. DNA samples extracted from stool were evaluated by nested polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and DHPLC for MSI analysis. RESULTS： Six cases （7.5%） of MSI were identified in BAT 26 from 80 cancer tissues. All the stool DNA samples from patients whose cancer tissue showed IVlSI also displayed MSI in BAT 26. CONCLUSION： As MSI is one of the established fecal DNA markers to screen colorectal cancer, we propose to use DHPLC for the IVlSI analysis in fecal DNA.

Objective： A meta-analysis was performed to augment the insufficient data on the impact of mutative EGFR downstream phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase （PI3K） and mitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPK） pathways on the clinical efficiency of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor （EGFR-TKI） treatment of non-small cell lung cancer （NSCLC） patients. Methods： Network databases were explored in April, 2015. Papers that investigated the clinical outcomes of NSCLC patients treated with EGFR-TKIs according to the status of K-ras and/or PIK3CA gene mutation were included. A quantitative meta-analysis was conducted using standard statistical methods. Odds ratios （ORs） for objective response rate （ORR） and hazard ratios （HRs） for progression-free survival （PFS） and overall survival （OS） were calculated. Results： Mutation in K-ras significantly predicted poor ORR [OR =0.22; 95% confidence interval （CI）, 0.13-0.35], shorter PFS （HR =1.56; 95% CI, 1.27-1.92）, and shorter OS （HR =1.59; 95% CI, 1.33-1.91） in NSCLC patients treated with EGFR-TKIs. Mutant PIK3CA significantly predicted shorter OS （HR =1.83; 95% CI, 1.05-3.20）, showed poor ORR （OK =0.70; 95% CI, 0.22-2.18）, and shorter PFS （HR = 1.79; 95% CI, 0.91-3.53） in NSCLC patients treated with EGFR-TKIs. Conclusion： K-ras mutation adversely affected the clinical response and survival of NSCLC patients treated with EGFR- TKIs. PIK3CA mutation showed similar trends. In addition to EGFR, adding K-ras and PIK3CA as routine gene biomarkers in clinical genetic analysis is valuable to optimize the effectiveness of EGFR-TKI regimens and identify optimal patients who will benefit from EGFR-TKI treatment.

Pim-3 is a member of the provirus integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus(Pim)family proteins that exhibit serine/threonine kinase *** to the other Pim kinases(Pim-1 and Pim-2),Pim-3 is involved in many cellular processes,including cell proliferation,survival,and protein *** Pim-3is expressed in normal vital organs,it is overexpressed particularly in tumor tissues of endoderm-derived organs,including the liver,pancreas,and *** of Pim-3 expression can retard in vitro cell proliferation of hepatocellular,pancreatic,and colon carcinoma cell lines by promoting cell ***-3 lacks the regulatory domains similarly as Pim-1 and Pim-2 lack,and therefore,Pim-3 can exhibit its kinase activity once it is ***-3 expression is regulated at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels by transcription factors(e.g.,Ets-1)and post-translational modifiers(e.g.,translationally-controlled tumor protein),***-3 could promote growth and angiogenesis of human pancreatic cancer cells in vivo in an orthotopic nude mouse ***,a Pim-3 kinase inhibitor inhibited cell proliferation when human pancreatic cancer cells were injected into nude mice,without inducing any major adverse ***,Pim-3 kinase may serve as a novel molecular target for developing targeting drugs against pancreatic and other types of cancer.

cancer has become the first leading cause of death in the world, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Facing the increasing trend of cancer incidence and mortality, China issued and implemented ＂three-early（early prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment）＂ national cancer prevention plan. As the main body and dependence of social governance, non-governmental organizations（NGOs） take over the role of government in the field of cancer prevention and treatment. American cancer Society（ACS） made a research on cancer NGOs and civil society in cancer control and found that cancer NGOs in developing countries mobilize civil society to work together and advocate governments in their countries to develop policies to address the growing cancer burden. Union for International cancer Control（UICC）, cancer Council Australia（CCA）, and Malaysian cancer NGOs are the representatives of cancer NGOs in promoting cancer control. Selecting Chinese Anti-cancer Association（CACA） as an example in China, this article is to investigate how NGOs undertake systematic cancer prevention work in China. By conducting real case study, we found that, as a NGO, CACA plays a significant role in intensifying the leading role of government in cancer control, optimizing cancer outcomes, decreasing cancer incidence and mortality rates and improving public health.
