The need for a flexible,dynamic,and decentralized energy market has rapidly grown in recent *** a matter of fact,Industry 4.0 and Smart Grids are pursuing a path of automation of operations to insure all the steps among consumers and producers are getting *** leads towards solutions that exploit the paradigm of public blockchain,which represents the best platform to design flat and liquid markets for which providing trust and accountability to mutual interactions becomes *** the other hand,one of the risks arising in this situation is that personal information is exposed to the network,with intolerable threats to *** this paper,we propose a solution for energy trading,based on the blockchain Ethereum and Smart *** solution aims to be a concrete proposal to satisfy the needs of energy trading in smart grids,including the important feature that no information about the identity of the peers of the network is disclosed in advance.

Location-Based Services(LBSs)are essential in many application contexts like ride-sharing or navigation *** are cases where users could gain an advantage by submitting fake *** problem faced in this paper concerns the possibility that the geographic location declared by a user is not the actual location in which the user is *** solutions are based on centralized or distributed verification in the literature,and other solutions are based on witnesses or *** this paper,we highlight the limitations of such approaches and propose a new scheme that exploits signals coming from satellites to provide trustworthy location proofs,also respecting users'*** proposed approach is decentralized because location proofs are stored by users in a suitably-encrypted way,and a blockchain is adopted to guarantee data integrity and *** show that the proposed approach overcomes the state of the art through a detailed analysis.

Porous asphalts have supplementary surface and volumetric properties(e.g., acoustic absorption, drain ability, texture, and friction). These properties are linked to intrinsic factors(e.g., gradation and bitumen content) and extrinsic factors(e.g., traffic load), while their evolution over time depends on complex phenomena and processes that cause their deterioration and therefore affect safety, noise, and budget. Despite the decay of so many and complex properties over time, there is a lack of criteria to synergistically optimize the pavement system. Consequently, the objective of this study is to set up and validate a design method that synergistically addresses the most relevant properties of friction courses as a part of a pavement structure. The abovementioned method is based on indepth analyses of the literature and on laboratory and on-site tests carried for several years in order to evaluate the decay over time of the main surface and volumetric *** show that (1) the level of fulfilment of single requirements varies over time and among the characteristics;(2) a sound optimization of the design of the mix in order to balance the different characteristics is needed;(3) further studies are needed because of uncertainty in predicting the main surface properties.

The catalytic conversion of methanol to dimethyl ether(DME) over a series of home-made FER-type zeolites having different acidities and commercial γ-Al_2O_3 has been studied with the aim to understand the impact of adding water in the reactant stream on the catalytic behavior on investigated materials. Cofeeding water with methanol, the alcohol conversion was slightly reduced over the investigated zeolites while the catalytic activity of γ-Al_2O_3, the traditional catalyst of MeOH-to-DME conversion, was strongly inhibited. It was also found that, for the investigated zeolites, both the amount and the initial deposition rate of the coke formed during the reaction were reduced when water was co-fed with methanol while no significant effects on both methanol conversion and DME selectivity were observed under the investigated conditions.

Effects of calibration process on the simulation of rear-end conflicts at roundabouts

A methodology for calibrating and validating VISSIM simulation model is presented that allows to replicate the observed vehicles conflicts. A roundabout case study has been selected to test the usefulness of a combined approach of VISSIM simulation package and the surrogate safety assessment model(SSAM) for providing reliable estimates of traffic conflicts. Safety performance has been assessed from the field by video-recording vehicle interactions at the roundabout, and then expressed in terms of time to collision(TTC)*** proposed calibration procedure has been performed by a multistage methodology involving microscopic drivers' car following behavior parameters to enhance the correlation between observed and simulated queue lengths at the roundabout's entries. The calibration procedure is based on a statistical screening of inputs leading to a linear expression relating significant parameters to the queue length. The best estimates of the model's parameters have been determined using a genetic algorithm *** spatial distribution of the rear-end conflicts and the TTC values determined by SSAM have been finally compared with the observed ones to analyze the capability of the model of replicating rear-end *** results suggest to this calibration procedure impacts positively on the estimate of the safety performance measures obtained through the simulation *** the good results in the evaluation of the model's accuracy, the simulation seems to fail in reproducing the traffic phenomena linked to unusual driving behavior, and therefore it is not able to replicate forced drivers' maneuvers that can lead to a conflict situation.

Treefall gap, canopy opening caused by the death of one or more trees, is the dominant form of disturbance in many forest systems worldwide. Gaps play an important role in forest ecology helping to pre- serve bio- and pedo-diversity, influencing nutrient cycles, and maintain- ing the complex structure of the late-successional forests. Over the last 30 years, numerous reviews have been written describing gap dynamics. Here we synthesize current understanding on gap dynamics relating to tree regeneration with particular emphasis on gap characteristics consid- ered critical to develop ecologically sustainable forest management sys- tems and to conserve native biodiversity. Specifically, we addressed the question： how do gaps influence forest structure？ From the literature re- viewed, the size of gaps induces important changes in factors such as light intensity, soil humidity and soil biological properties that influence tree species regeneration and differ in gaps of different sizes. Shade- tolerant species can colonize small gaps; shade-intolerant species need large gaps for successful regeneration. Additionally, gap dynamics differ between temperate, boreal, and tropical forests, showing the importance of climate differences in driving forest regeneration. This review summa- rizes information of use to forest managers who design cutting regimes that mimic natural disturbances and who must consider forest structure, forest climate, and the role of natural disturbance in their designs.

Despite almost a century of studies dealing with traffic noise,researchers and practitioners still face old and new issues when designing a low-noise *** that,this manuscript aims at focusing on a number of unsolved questions,namely theoretical or technological.1)Is it viable to balance diverse road-related needs(i.e.,noise,expected life,texture levels,and friction)?2)How much does the pavement material affect its acoustic performance(the remaining factors being constant)?3)How much reliable is the relationship between road texture and mixture aggregate gradation?Based on the analysis of these issues,it emerges that:1)optimal pavement design involves complex mix optimization and there are theoretical and practical bases to set up a balanced approach to address the complexity of pavement design;2)high percentages of crumb rubber could optimise road acoustic response but this latter has a relationship with the tyre/road noise(expressed,for example,in terms of close proximity index)that calls for further investigation;3)aggregate gradation appears to be a reliable basis to predict surface texture and therefore,under given boundary conditions,tyre/road noise;and 4)further studies and investigations are needed in terms of local calibration of deterioration curves and setting up of a sound method to assess the frequency response of asphalt concretes and to govern on-site noise indicators based on mixture properties.
