Korchmaros and Nagy [Hermitian codes from higher degree places. J Pure Appl Algebra, doi： 10. 1016/***.2013.04.002, 2013] computed the Weierstrass gap sequence G（P） of the Hermitian function field Fq2 （H） at any place P of degree 3, and obtained an explicit formula of the Matthews-Michel lower bound on the minimum distance in the associated differential Hermitian code CΩ（D, mP） where the divisor D is, as usual, the sum of all but one 1-degree Fq2-rational places of Fq2 （H） and m is a positive integer. For plenty of values of m depending on q, this provided improvements on the designed minimum distance of CΩ（D, mP）. Further improvements from G（P） were obtained by Korchmaros and Nagy relying on algebraic geometry. Here slightly weaker improvements are obtained from G（P） with the usual function-field method depending on linear series, Riemann-Roch theorem and Weierstrass semigroups. We also survey the known results on this subject.

Let L be a pseudo-D-lattice. We prove that the exhaustive lattice uniformities on L which makes the operations of L uniformly continuous form a Boolean algebra isomorphic to the centre of a suitable complete pseudo-D-lattice associated to L. As a consequence, we obtain decomposition theorems such as Lebesgue and Hewitt-Yosida decompositions--and control theorems such as Bartle-Dunford Schwartz and Rybakov theorems--for modular measures on L.

Odorant-binding proteins （OBPs） are soluble proteins mediating chemorecep- tion in insects. In previous research, we investigated the molecular mechanisms adopted by aphids to detect the alarm pheromone （E）-fl-farnesene and we found that the recogni- tion of this and structurally related molecules is mediated by OBP3 and OBP7. Here, we show the differential expression patterns of 5 selected OBPs （OBP 1, OBP3, OBP6, OBPT, OBPS） obtained performing quantitative RT-PCR and immunolocalization experiments in different body parts of adults and in the 5 developmental instars, including winged and unwinged morphs, of the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum. The results provide an overall picture that allows us to speculate on the relationship between the differential expression of OBPs and their putative function. The expression of OBP3, OBP6, and OBP7 in the antennal sensilla suggests a ehemosensory fimction for these proteins, whereas the con- stant expression level of OBP8 in all instars could suggest a conserved role. Moreover, OBP1 and OBP3 are also expressed in nonsensory organs. A light and scanning electron microscopy study of sensilla on different body parts of aphid, in particular antennae, legs, mouthparts, and coruicles-cauda, completes this research providing a guide to facilitate the mapping of OBP expression profiles.

In the last years,the production of grape ale beer has become a trendy choice among brewers in Italy,resulting in a new beer type known as Italian Grape Ale(IGA),a sort of bridge beverage between beer and *** this study,three autochthonous Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains(CHE-3,P4 and TA4-10),previously isolated from different food types,were tested in comparison with the commercial strain *** were conducted at a laboratory scale on malt extracts with 15%and 25%grape must adjuncts,and on malt wort(control).After fermentation,the CHE-3,P4 and TA4-10 strains showed significantly higher CO_(2) production than *** main analytical parameters(organic acids,real and apparent attenuation,ethanol content,glycerol level and carbohydrate profile)and the volatile compounds related to the organoleptic quality of the experimental beers were strongly influenced both by the grape must addition to the fermentation medium and the used *** addition of grape must enhanced the CO_(2) production,especially when 25%of grape must was added to the *** comparing the tested strains,the highest aromatic expression was observed with 15%grape must *** present results confirm the importance of media composition and microbial biodiversity to gain more different beers especially in the craft beers ***,the outcome data show the significance of microbial cross-over,a novel approach based on the exploitation of microorganisms traditionally used in other agro-food chains also for brewing novel beer types.

The key parameters for damage detection and localization are eigenfrequencies, related equivalent viscous damping factors and mode shapes. The classical approach is based on the evaluation of these structural parameters before and after a seismic event, but by using a modern approach based on time-frequency transformations it is possible to quantify these parameters throughout the ground shaking phase. In particular with the use of the S-Transform, it is possible to follow the temporal evolution of the structural dynamics parameters before, during and after an earthquake. In this paper, a methodology for damage localization on framed structures subjected to strong motion earthquakes is proposed based on monitoring the modal curvature variation in the natural frequency of a structure. Two examples of application are described to illustrate the technique: Computer simulation of the nonlinear response of a model, and several laboratory(shaking table) tests performed at the University of basilicata(Italy). Damage detected using the proposed approach and damage revealed via visual inspections in the tests are compared.

In recent years, several research groups have studied a new generation of analysis methods for seismic response assessment of existing buildings. Nevertheless, many important developments are still needed in order to define more reliable and effective assessment procedures. Moreover, regarding existing buildings, it should be highlighted that due to the low knowledge level, the linear elastic analysis is the only analysis method allowed. The same codes（such as NTC2008, EC8） consider the linear dynamic analysis with behavior factor as the reference method for the evaluation of seismic demand. This type of analysis is based on a linear-elastic structural model subject to a design spectrum, obtained by reducing the elastic spectrum through a behavior factor. The behavior factor（reduction factor or q factor in some codes） is used to reduce the elastic spectrum ordinate or the forces obtained from a linear analysis in order to take into account the non-linear structural capacities. The behavior factors should be defined based on several parameters that influence the seismic nonlinear capacity, such as mechanical materials characteristics, structural system, irregularity and design procedures. In practical applications, there is still an evident lack of detailed rules and accurate behavior factor values adequate for existing buildings. In this work, some investigations of the seismic capacity of the main existing RC-MRF building types have been carried out. In order to make a correct evaluation of the seismic force demand, actual behavior factor values coherent with force based seismic safety assessment procedure have been proposed and compared with the values reported in the Italian seismic code, NTC08.

Development and Validation of an Ion Chromatography Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Seven Food Additives in Cheeses

Cheeses are characterized by several chemical-physical properties that make it difficult for the microorganisms growth, consequently. The actual European legislation allows the addition of few food additives in this type of food products. In this work, the entire procedure of extraction, purification, chromatographic separations and quali/quantitative determination of seven food additives (sorbic acid, benzoic acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, nitrites, nitrates and phosphates) was developed and applied for the analysis of different types of cheese (mozzarella, cheese spread, semi-hard and hard cheeses). Through validation procedure it was possible to evaluate the most important validation parameters. Extended calibration curves (r > 0.990) were obtained for all the analyzed compounds. Recovery values ranged from 72.8% to 98.4% and a good repeatability was obtained, with precision levels in the range of 0.03% - 0.11% (n = 6). The potential and feasibility of the method were tested by analysing real samples, such as mozzarella, cheese spread, semi-hard and hard cheeses, confirming that the method is well suited to satisfy the demands for accurate confirmation analyses of seven food additives in cheeses, which is especially valuable in official check analyses and in monitoring schemes.

Phenotyping Key Fruit Quality Traits in Olive Using RGB Images and Back Propagation Neural Networks

To predict oil and phenol concentrations in olive fruit,the combination of back propagation neural networks(BPNNs)and contact-less plant phenotyping techniques was employed to retrieve RGB image-based digital proxies of oil and phenol *** of cultivars(×3)differing in ripening time were sampled(~10-day interval,×2 years),pictured and analyzed for phenol and oil *** to this,fruit samples were pictured and images were segmented to extract the red(R),green(G),and blue(B)mean pixel values that were rearranged in 35 RGB-based colorimetric *** BPNNs were designed using as input variables(a)the original 35 RGB indexes,(b)the scores of principal components after a principal component analysis(PCA)pre-processing of those indexes,and(c)a reduced number(28)of the RGB indexes achieved after a sparse *** results show that the predictions reached the highest mean R^(2) values ranging from 0.87 to 0.95(oil)and from 0.81 to 0.90(phenols)across the *** addition to the R^(2),other performance metrics were calculated(root mean squared error and mean absolute error)and combined into a general performance indicator(GPI).The resulting rank of the GPI suggests that a BPNN with a specific topology might be designed for cultivars grouped according to their ripening *** present study documented that an RGB-based image phenotyping can effectively predict key quality traits in olive fruit supporting the developing olive sector within a digital agriculture domain.

A straightforward conceptual method is proposed to quantitatively assess the seasonal-scale tendency of retreatment or advancement on microtidal beaches by using the backshore/foreshore length ratio. This method is based on measuring the cross-shore profile of a beach when it passes through the “transitional state” that separates the high-from the low-energy season, period during which the morphological characteristics of the beach tend to its equilibrium profile. In order to obtain real measurements of backshore (B) and foreshore (F), the definition of the limits bounding these two important components in subaerial beaches is reviewed and discussed. The approach based on the measurement of the?B/F?length ratio assumes that foreshore and backshore have equivalent lengths in beaches that approximate to their state of morphodynamic equilibrium (B/F?~ 1). A backshore length exceeding the foreshore length is indicative of a state of beach recession, with a?B/F?length ratio > 1. When the foreshore length is greater than the backshore length, the shoreline is advancing or, alternatively, it is developing in a state of morphological confinement,?i.e.?due to the presence of a sea cliff, with a?B/F?basilicata, in southern Italy. The various “beach states” are summarised into seven classes (I-VII), each identified from specific value intervals of the?B/F?length ratio.
