Aim:Angiogenesis is observed in acute myeloid leukemia(AML).AML cells abnormally proliferate and are resistant to *** regulators of angiogenesis,VEGF-A and matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs)2 and 9 are markers of disease status in *** natural phloroglucinol hyperforin(HF)displays antitumoral properties of potential pharmacological ***,we investigated the effects of HF on MMP-2/9 and VEGF-A expression and survival of primary AML ***:Blood and bone marrow samples were collected in 45 patients with distinct subtypes defined by French American British classification,i.e.,M0,M1,M2,M3,M4,and *** of MMPs and VEGF-A in leukemic blood cells and culture supernatants were determined by RT-PCR,ELISA,and gelatin zymography(MMPs).The balance between cell death and survival was assessed by flow cytometry with analysis of phosphatidylserine externalization and caspase-3 ***:The administration of HF promoted a caspase-associated apoptosis in primary AML blasts(from blood and bone marrow),but not normal blood cells and *** addition,HF inhibited the levels of secreted proMMP-2,proMMP-9,and VEGF-A without altering *** induction of apoptosis by HF significantly paralleled the inhibition of MMP-2/9 and VEGF-A release by *** differences were seen in response to the deleterious effects of HF between AML cells of distinct ***:Our results suggest that HF,through its proapoptotic and potential antiangiogenic properties(by inhibiting MMP-2/9 and VEGF-A)on primary AML cells,might be a useful experimental agent,in combination with existing drugs,for new therapeutic approaches in the treatment of this incurable disease.

Challenges and Requirements for the Application of Industry 4.0:A Special Insight with the Usage of Cyber-Physical System

Considered as a top priority of industrial devel- opment, Industry 4.0 （or Industrie 4.0 as the German ver- sion） has being highlighted as the pursuit of both academy and practice in companies. In this paper, based on the review of state of art and also the state of practice in dif- ferent countries, shortcomings have been revealed as the lacking of applicable framework for the implementation of Industrie 4.0. Therefore, in order to shed some light on the knowledge of the details, a reference architecture is developed, where four perspectives namely manufacturing process, devices, software and engineering have been highlighted. Moreover, with a view on the importance of Cyber-Physical systems, the structure of Cyber-Physical System are established for the in-depth analysis. Further cases with the usage of Cyber-Physical System are also arranged, which attempts to provide some implications to match the theoretical findings together with the experience of companies. In general, results of this paper could be useful for the extending on the theoretical understanding of Industrie 4.0. Additionally, applied framework and proto- types based on the usage of Cyber-Physical Systems are also potential to help companies to design the layout of sensor nets, to achieve coordination and controlling of smart machines, to realize synchronous production with systematic structure, and to extend the usage of information and communication technologies to the maintenance scheduling.

Ontogenetic transition in leaf traits: a new cost associated with the increase in leaf longevity

Aims Recent work has identified a worldwide‘economics’spectrum of correlated leaf traits that mainly reflects the compromises between maximizing leaf longevity and short-term ***,during the early stages of tree growth different species tend to exhibit a common strategy,because competition for soil water and nutrients forces the maximization of short-term productivity owing to the need for rapid growth during the most vulnerable part of the tree’s life ***,our aim here was to compare the variations that occur during ontogeny in the different leaf traits(morphology and leaf chemical composition)of several coexisting Mediterranean woody species differing in their leaf life spans and to test our hypothesis that tree species with a long leaf life span should exhibit larger shifts in leaf characteristics along *** Six Mediterranean tree species differing in leaf life span,selected from three plots located in central-western Spain,were studied during three growth stages:seedlings,juveniles and mature *** life span,leaf morphology(leaf area,dry weight,thickness and mass per unit area)and chemical composition(N and fibre con-centrations)were measured in all six *** magnitude of the ontogenetic changes in the different traits was estimated and related to the mean leaf longevity of the different *** Findings Along ontogeny,strong changes were observed in all variables *** early growth stages showed lower leaf thickness,leaf thickness and mass per unit area and N,cellulose and hemi-cellulose concentrations than mature trees,but a higher lignin ***,these changes were especially marked in species with a longer leaf life span at *** dif-ferences in leaf life span,leaf morphology and chemical com-position were stronger at the mature stage than at the seedling *** conclude that greater plasticity and more intense strat-egy shifts along ontogeny are necessarily associ

Synthetic neurosteroids on brain protection

Neurosteroids, like allopregnanolone and pregnanolone, are endogenous regulators of neuronal excitability. Inside the brain, they are highly selective and potent modulators of GABAA receptor activity. Their anticonvulsant, anesthetics and anxiolytic properties are useful for the treatments of several neurological and psychiatric disorders via reducing the risks of side effects obtained with the commercial drugs. The principal disadvantages of endogenous neurosteroids adminis- tration are their rapid metabolism and their low oral bioavailability. Synthetic steroids analogues with major stability or endogenous neurosteroids stimulation synthesis might constitute prom- ising novel strategies for the treatment of several disorders. Numerous studies indicate that the 3ct-hydroxyl configuration is the key for binding and activity, but modifications in the steroid nucleus may emphasize different pharmacophores. So far, several synthetic steroids have been developed with successful neurosteroid-like effects. In this work, we summarize the properties of various synthetic steroids probed in trials throughout the analysis of several neurosteroids-like actions.

Anisotropic stellar structure equations for magnetized strange stars

The fact that a fermion system in an external magnetic field breaks the spherical symmetry suggests that its intrinsic geometry is axisymmetric rather than spherical. In this work we analyze the impact of anisotropic pressures, due to the presence of a magnetic field, in the structure equations of a magnetized quark *** assume a cylindrical metric and an anisotropic energy momentum tensor for the source. We found that there is a maximum magnetic field that a strange star can sustain, closely related to the violation of the virial relations.

Synthesis and evaluation as CO2 chemisorbent of the Li5(Al1-xFex)O4 solid solution materials:Effect of oxygen addition

Pentalithium aluminate（β-LiAlO） and the corresponding iron-containing solid solution(Li(AlFe)O)were synthetized by solid-state reaction. All the samples were characterized structural and microstructurally by X-ray diffraction, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance, scanning electron microscopy, Nadsorption-desorption and temperature-programmed desorption of CO. Results showed that 30 mol% of iron can be incorporated into the β-LiAlOcrystalline structure at aluminum positions. Moreover, iron addition induced morphological and superficial reactivity variations. Li(AlFe)Osamples chemisorbed CObetween 200 and 700 °C, where the superficial chemisorption presented the highest enhancement,in comparison to β-LiAlO. Additionally, Li(AlFe)Osamples sintered at higher temperatures thanβ-LiAlO. Isothermal COchemisorption experiments of β-LiAlOand Li(AlFe)Owere fitted to a first order reaction model, corroborating that iron enhances the COchemisorption, kinetically. When oxygen was added to the gas flow, COchemisorption process was mainly enhanced between 400 and 600 °C for the Li(AlFe)Osample in comparison to β-LiAlO. Hence, Li(AlFe)Osolid solution presented an enhanced COchemisorption process, in the presence and absence of oxygen, in comparison to β-LiAlO.

Roles and functions of Atp6ap2 in the brain

The classical renin-angiotensin system（RAS） in the body has been studied intensively in the last decades, since it is known that this system is involved in the regulation of blood pressure. Since nearly all members of the classical RAS have also been identified within the brain in the last decades and due to the existence of the blood-brain barrier, a RAS within the brain（bRAS） that is largely independent from the peripheral RAS has been postulated. All members of the angiotensin family as e.g., angiotensin II, angiotensin IV and angiotensin II（1-7） along with the respective receptors（e.g., angiotensin II receptor type 1（AT1）, angiotensin II receptor type 2（AT2）, angiotensin IV receptor（AT4）, angiotensin II（1-7） receptor（Mas）） have been identified within the brain. Moreover, a receptor capable of binding renin and the renin precursor prorenin with high affinity has also been detected within the brain. This protein functions as a membrane receptor for（pro）renin and also represents a V-ATPase subunit and is therefore termed（P）RR or Atp6 ap2, respectively. In this review we shed light on the（known as well as putative） roles and functions of Atp6 ap2 in the brain under physiological and pathophysiological conditions.

dear Editor,Infertility affects about 15%of couples of childbearing age.i About half of these cases can be attributed predominantly to a male factor,such as a quantitative or qualitative impairment in *** etiology of male infertility is related to anatomic,genetic,and environmental causes,being sometimes multifactorial and of unknown or idiopathic *** present,genetic screening for nonobstructive azoospermia(NOA)is generally limited to karyotyping for the identification of chromosome abnormalities such as 47,XXY,46,X,der(X)t(X;Y)(p22.3;p11.2),chromosome rearrangements,and Y chromosome ***-genome analyses have shown that over 100 gene variants are associated with a male infertility phenotype,and the list continues to grow;hence,a large number of genes are involved in *** continuing identification of genes responsible for male infertility in general and azoospermia,in particular,is a major challenge in both research and the diagnosis ofmale infertility.

Electrical properties of ^(70)Ge:Ga near the metal–insulator transition

The results of the metal-insulator transition （MIT） induced by impurity concentration are presented in the case of metallic and insulating samples 70Ge：Ga p-type. The eight samples studied have Ga concentrations N ranging from 1.848 × 1017 to 1.912 × 10^17 cm-3. The conductivity measurements were carried out at low temperature in the range 1 to 0.019 K. We provide physical explanations to explain the behaviors of the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity in both sides of the MIT. The data are for a 70Ge：Ga sample prepared and reported by Itoh et aL in Ref. [Itoh K M, Watanabe M, Ootuka Y, et al. J Phys Soc Jpn, 2004, 73（1）： 173].
