Synthesis and Extraction Studies of Calix[4]-Crown-4 Oxime derivatives

The article comprises synthesis of calyx[4]-oxa-crown, and calix[4]-thia-crown compounds containing nitrile groups (3a, 3b) and amino groups (4a, 4b) and their corresponding oxime derivatives (5a, 5b) and liquid-liquid extraction studies of these compounds. The oxime derivatives of compounds (5a, 5b) have been synthesized by reacting of di-n-butylamino derivatives of calix[4]-oxa-crown, and calix[4]-thia-crown compounds (4a, 4b) with amphi-chloroglyoxime in methanol-THF. Their cation and anion transfer studies were performed by using liquid-liquid extraction procedure. It has been concluded from the observations that the compound 3a shows a good extraction behavior toward Na+ ion in the presence of other metal cations. Whereas, its oxime derivatives transfers all of the metal cations used in the liquid-liquid extraction studies.

Effects of meteorological conditions and topography on the bioaccumulation of PAHs and metal elements by native lichen(Xanthoria parietina)

The bioaccumulation of PAHs and metal elements in the indigenous lichens Xanthoria parietina was monitored during two years at a quarterly frequency,in 3 sites of contrasted anthropic *** impact of the meteorological factors(temperature,relative humidity,rainfall,wind speed)was first estimated through principal component analysis,and then by stepwise multilinear regressions to include wind *** pollutants levels reflected the proximity of atmospheric emissions,in particular from a large industrial *** humidity and mild temperatures,and in a lower extent low wind speed and rainfall,also favored higher concentration *** contributions of these meteorological aspects became minor when including wind direction,especially when approaching major emission *** bioaccumulation integration time towards meteorological variations was on a seasonal basis(1–2 months)but the wind direction and thus local emissions also relied on a longer time scale(12 months).This showed that the contribution of meteorological conditions may be prevalent in remote places,while secondary in polluted areas,and should be definitely taken into account regarding long-term lichen biomonitoring and inter-annual *** the same time,a quadruple sampling in each site revealed a high homogeneity among supporting tree species and *** resulting uncertainty,including sampling,preparation and analysis was below 30%when comfortable analytical conditions were ***,the occurrence of unexpected events such as a major forest fire,permitted to evaluate that this type of short,although intense,events did not have a strong influence on PAH and metals bioaccumulation by lichen.

Characterization of dominant giant rod-shaped magnetotactic bacteria from a low tide zone of the China Sea

Magnetotactic bacteria are a group of Gram-negative bacteria that synthesize magnetic crystals, enabling them to navigate in relation to magnetic field lines. Morphologies of magnetotactic bacteria include spirillum, coccoid, rod, vibrio, and multicellular morphotypes. The coccid shape is generally the most abundant morphotype among magnetotactic bacteria. Here we describe a species of giant rod-shaped magnetotactic bacteria(designated QR-1) collected from sediment in the low tide zone of Huiquan Bay(Yellow Sea, China). This morphotype accounted for 90% of the magnetotactic bacteria collected, and the only taxonomic group which was detected in the sampling site. Microscopy analysis revealed that QR-1 cells averaged(6.71±1.03)×(1.54±0.20) m m in size, and contained in each cell 42–146 magnetosomes that are arranged in a bundle formed one to four chains along the long axis of the cell. The QR-1 cells displayed axial magnetotaxis with an average velocity of 70±28 mm/s. Transmission electron microscopy based analysis showed that QR-1 cells had two tufts of fl agella at each end. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16 S r RNA genes revealed that QR-1 together with three other rod-shaped uncultivated magnetotactic bacteria are clustered into a deep branch of A lphaproteobacteria.

AIM To describe factors associated with treatment failure and frequency of resistance-associated substitutions(RAS).METHOdS Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/hepatitis C virus(HCV) coinfected patients starting a first direct-acting antiviral(dAA) regimen before February 2016 and included in the French ANRS CO13 HEPAVIH cohort were eligible. Failure was defined as:(1) non-response [HCV-RNA remained detectable during treatment, at end of treatment(EOT)]; and(2) relapse(HCVRNA suppressed at EOT but detectable thereafter). Sequencing analysis was performed to describe prevalence of drug class-specific RAS. Factors associated with failure were determined using logistic regression *** Among 559 patients, 77% had suppressed plasma HIV-RNA dAA treatment initiation, 41% were cirrhotic, and 68% were HCV treatmentexperienced. Virological treatment failures occurred in 22 patients and were mainly relapses(17, 77%) then undefined failures(3, 14%) and non-responses(2, 9%). Mean treatment duration was 16 wk overall. Posttreatment NS3, NS5 A or NS5 B RAS were detected in 10/14 patients with samples available for sequencing analysis. After adjustment for age, sex, ribavirin use, HCV genotype and treatment duration, low platelet count was the only factor significantly associated with a higher risk of failure(OR: 6.5; 95%CI: 1.8-22.6). CONCLUSION Only 3.9% HIV-HCV coinfected patients failed dAA regimens and RAS were found in 70% of those failing. Low platelet count was independently associated with virological failure.

Modelling Best Oil Palm site Planting in Njimom, West-Cameroon: A GIS-Analysis Combining Weighted Linear Combination, Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process and Utility Function

Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) has recorded a boom production the last decades and its main productive zone is inside the tropics that meet the best biophysical conditions. Investors as well as geospatial practitioners are increasingly interested on the best growing and harvesting conditions. So said, the aim of this paper is to select the best oil palm planting site through the best methods combination. The study area is the district of Njimom located in the west-Cameroon, transitional between the equatorial and the climatic zones. In the same GIS environment, the Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) respectively highlight the subtle differences between capability and suitability, while the Utility Function (UF) helps to assess the consideration of sustainability aspects. The first results consist in eight layers representing natural conditions, that is rainfall, temperatures, sunshine, slope, elevation, soil richness, soil moisture and forest cover, recoded in six classes ranked from 5 to 0 according to the FAO standardised scale. They are crossed using the straightforward method of WLC to give the “Capability layer”. The second results consist in three layers related to the social-economical constraints for production, as built-up area, distance to road and distance to rivers. These layers are recoded in binary with 1 and 0, they are weighted by the FAHP priority vector and membership approach to give the “suitability layer”. Then, the number of occurrences of each aspect of the sustainability is counted in each of the two preceding processes to perform the UF. The resulting value, that is 0.542 for the capability process and 0.315 for the suitability process, serves to weight their respective layers, and their sum gives the final map with the best oil palm site planting in the northern part of the study area, on about 34,950 ha, representing 44.8% of Njimom district.

Fungi are an understudied,biotechnologically valuable group of *** to the immense range of habitats that fungi inhabit,and the consequent need to compete against a diverse array of other fungi,bacteria,and animals,fungi have developed numerous survival *** unique attributes of fungi thus herald great promise for their application in biotechnology and ***,fungi can be grown with relative ease,making production at scale *** search for fungal biodiversity,and the construction of a living fungi collection,both have incredible economic potential in locating organisms with novel industrial uses that will lead to novel *** manuscript reviews fifty ways in which fungi can potentially be utilized as *** provide notes and examples for each potential exploitation and give examples from our own work and the work of other notable *** also provide a flow chart that can be used to convince funding bodies of the importance of fungi for biotechnological research and as potential *** have provided the world with penicillin,lovastatin,and other globally significant medicines,and they remain an untapped resource with enormous industrial potential.

Un-doped and ZnAl_(x)O_(1.5x+1):0.1 mol%Tb^(3+)(ZAOT)nano-powders were synthesized via citrate sol-gel *** aix moles were varied in the range of 0.25≤x≤*** X-ray powder diffraction(XRd)data reveal that for xd samples crystal structure consists of mixed phases of the cubic ZnAl_(2)O_(4) and hexagonal ZnO phases,while for x>1.5 the structure consists of single phase of cubic ZnAl_(2)O_(4).The Raman and Fourier-trans form infrared(FTIR)vibrational spectroscopy show the presence of vibrations emanating ZnAl_(2)O_(4) *** electron microscopy(SEM)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)show the presence of irregular sphere at x>2.0 attributed to ZnAl_(2)O_(4).The photoluminescence(PL)spectroscopy reveals emissions from both the host and Tb^(3+)*** from Tb^(3+)are observed at 382,414,439,458 nm and 489,545,585,621 nm,which were attributed to the^(5)d_(3)→^(7)F_(6,5,4,2) and ^(5^)d_(4)→^(7)F_(6,5,4,3),*** results confirm that the Tb^(3+)occupation site depends on the Alx *** International Commission on Illumination(CIE)colour chromaticity shows that the emission colour can be tuned from blue to green by varying the aix moles.
