BACKGROUND Secondary forms and hypertension-mediated organ damage(HMOD) may differ between younger and older hypertensive patients.The aim of the present study was to explore the specificity of HMOD and secondary forms in patients≥ 65 years in comparison to younger ones in a contemporary cohort.METHODS We analysed 938 patients recruited between 2004 and 2014(Cardiology department,Croix-Rousse Hospital,lyon)who had at baseline HMOD and secondary forms screening among them 190 were≥ 65 years.RESULTS The mean(2.1±0.8 vs.1.2±0.9,P 10 m/s was the most frequent HMOD in patients≥ 65 years(90.1%),while echocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy was the most common in the younger patients(45.0%).Among ECG left ventricular indexes,only R wave in aVL lead was significantly more frequently observed in patients≥ 65 years(32.6%) than in younger ones(19.0%,P der patients(respectively;30.5% vs.27.8%,P=0.487).The most frequent aetiology was primary aldosteronism regardless of age,followed by renovascular hypertension(6.3% vs.3.3%,P=0.038).Among older patients,3.2% were treated with adrenalectomy and 6.3% with percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty.CONCLUSION Extensive screening of HMOD in older patients may be questionable as nearly all patients had one;aetiology must however be explored as a third of older patients had a secondary form.

Natural killer(NK)cell-based immunotherapies are attracting increasing interest in the field of cancer treatment.Early clinical trials have shown promising outcomes,alongside satisfactory product efficacy and safety.Recent developments have greatly increased the therapeutic potential of NK cells by endowing them with enhanced recognition and cytotoxic capacities.This review focuses on surface receptor engineering in NK cell therapy and discusses its impact,challenges,and future directions.Most approaches are based on engineering with chimeric antigen receptors to allow NK cells to target specific tumor antigens independent of human leukocyte antigen restriction.This approach has increased the precision and potency of NK-mediated recognition and elimination of cancer cells.In addition,engineering NK cells with T-cell receptors also mediates the recognition of intracellular epitopes,which broadens the range of target peptides.Indirect tumor peptide recognition by NK cells has also been improved by optimizing immunoglobulin constant fragment receptor expression and signaling.Indeed,engineered NK cells have an improved ability to recognize and destroy target cells coated with specific antibodies,thereby increasing their antibodydependent cellular cytotoxicity.The ability of NK cell receptor engineering to promote the expansion,persistence,and infiltration of transferred cells in the tumor microenvironment has also been explored.Receptor-based strategies for sustained NK cell functionality within the tumor environment have also been discussed,and these strategies providing perspectives to counteract tumor-induced immunosuppression.Overall,receptor engineering has led to significant advances in NK cell-based cancer immunotherapies.As technical challenges are addressed,these innovative treatments will likely reshape cancer immunotherapy.

Light emission of europium(Eu^(3+))ions placed in the vicinity of optically resonant nanoantennas is usually controlled by tailoring the local density of photon states(LDOS).We show that the polarization and shape of the excitation beam can also be used to manipulate light emission,as azimuthally or radially polarized cylindrical vector beam offers to spatially shape the electric and magnetic fields,in addition to the effect of silicon nanorings(Si-NRs)used as nanoantennas.The photoluminescence(PL)mappings of the Eu^(3+)transitions and the Si phonon mappings are strongly dependent of both the excitation beam and the Si-NR dimensions.The experimental results of Raman scattering and photoluminescence are confirmed by numerical simulations of the near-field intensity in the Si nanoantenna and in the Eu^(3+)-doped film,respectively.The branching ratios obtained from the experimental PL maps also reveal a redistribution of the electric and magnetic emission channels.Our results show that it could be possible to spatially control both electric and magnetic dipolar emission of Eu^(3+)ions by switching the laser beam polarization,hence the near field at the excitation wavelength,and the electric and magnetic LDOS at the emission wavelength.This paves the way for optimized geometries taking advantage of both excitation and emission processes.

Prostate multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging(mpMRI)has shown excellent sensitivity for Gleason7 cancers,especially when their volume is0.5 mL.As a result,performing an mpMRI before prostate biopsy could improve the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer(csPCa)by adding targeted biopsies to systematic biopsies.Currently,there is a consensus that targeted biopsies improve the detection of csPCa in the repeat biopsy setting and at confirmatory biopsy in patients considering active surveillance.Several prospective multicentric controlled trials recently showed that targeted biopsy also improved csPCa detection in biopsy-naǐve patients.The role of mpMRI and targeted biopsy during the follow-up of active surveillance remains unclear.Whether systematic biopsy could be omitted in case of negative mpMRI is also a matter of controversy.mpMRI did show excellent negative predictive values(NPV)in the literature,however,since NPV depends on the prevalence of the disease,negative mpMRI findings should be interpreted in the light of a priori risk for csPCa of the patient.Nomograms combining mpMRI findings and classical risk predictors(age,prostatespecific antigen density,digital rectal examination,etc.)will probably be developed in the future to decide whether a prostate biopsy should be obtained.mpMRI has a good specificity for detecting T3 stage cancers,but its sensitivity is low.It should therefore not be used routinely for staging purposes in low-risk patients.Nomograms combining mpMRI findings and other clinical and biochemical data will also probably be used in the future to better assess the risk of T3 stage disease.

The antibacterial finishing of cotton-based fabrics has been achieved from quaternary ammonium-based composite particles. This functionalization is based on the simple dilution of a quaternary ammonium cation （QAC） hybrid alkoxide within a sol-gel derived crystalline suspension （CS） of TiO2 in liquid solution. This protocol yields the preparation of QAC-Ti02 （QT） composite sols by using a same CS over a long period of time, and enables an easy regeneration of derived QT sols after quite long aging periods. Composite sols can then be impregnated on various kinds of substrates, including textile fabrics. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy studies, as well as optical and scanning electron microscopy observations, have been used to investigate chemical and morphological features arising from QT particles. Antibacterial tests have then been performed on so-finished textiles and are discussed in relation to chemical and morphological features. It is shown that this sol-gel route flexibly yields a similarly strong antibacterial activity on cotton-based fabrics against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, Le. tested fabrics exhibit an antibacterial activity （a（~cording to the ISO 20743-2005 standard） ranging between 7.5 and 7.9 against both kinds of bacteria tested here. Finishing treatments also allow preserving the hand feeling and visual aspect of the textiles and promote a rather good attachment of impregnated particles on the surface of textile fibers.

We present theoretically the formation of exciton–photon polaritons and exciton-surface plasmon polaritons in a perovskite-based subwavelength lattice on the metallic plane.It is shown that the later polaritons will be achieved as the perovskite layer is ultra-thin(des corresponding to infinite and finite radiative quality factors,respectively.Another salient property in this work is that it allows one to obtain exceptional points(EPs)in momentum space with a four-fold enhancement of local density of states through engineering the perovskite metasurface.Our findings show that the perovskite metasurface is an attractive and rich platform to make polaritonic devices,even with the presence of a lossy metallic layer.

Infectious disease outbreaks,such as'Coronavirus disease 20190(COVID-19),can constitute major global health threats with far-reaching consequences.As outbreaks develop,the international scientific community must provide high-quality scientific research-ready biological samples to solve the existing clinical and epidemiological questions to better combat the pandemic.Such examples are provided by dedicated biobank facilities,the latter collecting increasingly high volumes of biological samples.However,the more significant concentrations of infectious or potentially infectious biological materials can create a safety risk.The current short report describes the first attempt to identify the published scientific works on biobanking and safety.Three broad thematic areas have been identified:the physical security relevant to staff and sample integrity,the data safety aspects,and the governance parameters relating to the previous two.While the current publications reflect a broad alignment with existing standards and best practices in the biobanking field,they also demonstrate an opportunity for further in-depth work on this field in the post-COVID-19 era.

Many researches from both theoretical and experimental perspectives have been performed to search for a new Higgs Boson that is lighter than the 125 GeV Higgs boson,which was discovered at the LHC in 2012.In this study,we explore the possibility of constraining a lighter neutral custodial fiveplet scalar H_(5)^(0) in the GeorgiMachacek(GM) model using the latest results of the search for a lighter Higgs boson decaying into two photons from LHC data.The custodial-singlet mass eigenstate h or H is considered to be the LHC observed 125 GeV Higgs boson.A new set of constrained parameters that is favoured by low-mass H_(5)^(0) is proposed to generate events efficiently.The production of H_(5)^(0) from a scan based on the constrained parameters is compared to the latest results of the search for a lighter Higgs boson decaying into two photons by the CMS Collaboration after applying theoretical constraints from the GM model and constraints from all existing relevant experimental measurements,including the recent results of the Higgs boson searches by the LHC.Numerical analyses of the surviving GM parameter space are performed.The tendencies and correlations of the GM input parameters from phenomenological studies are summarized.In addition,the discovery potential of the other interesting decay channels of this low-mass neutral custodial fiveplet scalar are discussed.

Volatiles, such as carbon and water, modulate the Earth’s mantle rheology, partial melting and redox state,thereby playing a crucial role in the Earth’s internal dynamics. We experimentally show the transformation of goethite FeOOH in the presence of CO2into a tetrahedral carbonate phase, Fe4C3O12, at conditions above 107 GPa—2300 K. At temperatures below 2300 K, no interactions are evidenced between goethite and CO2, and instead a pyrite-structured FeO2Hx is formed as recently reported by Hu et al.(2016; 2017)and Nishi et al.(2017). The interpretation is that, above a critical temperature, FeO2Hx reacts with CO2and H2, yielding Fe4C3O12and H2O. Our findings provide strong support for the stability of carbon-oxygen-bearing phases at lower-mantle conditions. In both subducting slabs and lower-mantle lithologies, the tetrahedral carbonate Fe4C3O12would replace the pyrite-structured FeO2Hx through carbonation of these phases. This reaction provides a new mechanism for hydrogen release as H2 O within the deep lower mantle. Our study shows that the deep carbon and hydrogen cycles may be more complex than previously thought, as they strongly depend on the control exerted by local mineralogical and chemical environments on the CO2and H2thermodynamic activities.
