This comment will review and discuss recent results obtained with the use of calorimetry in assessing molecular information from complex phenomena such as association in surfactant/polymer mixtures. These examples were selected to support the view that it is possible to ally the great sensitivity of modem calorimeters with carefully planned experiments and, sometimes, ancillary techniques in order to derive detailed information on molecular interactions.

Objective:To evaluate whether hypoxia inducible factor(HIF-1α) targeting pharmacological drugs,echinomycin,resveratrol and CdCl_2 which inhibit HIF-1α stimulation,and mimosine,which enhances the stability of HIF-1α present antileishmanial ***:The leishmanicidal effect of drugs was evaluated in mouse macrophages and Balb/c mouse model for cutaneous ***:Resveratrol and CdCl_2 reduced the parasite load [IC50,(27.3±2.25) μM and(24.8±0.95) μM,respectively].The IC50 value of echinomycin was(22.7±7.36) nM and mimosine did not alter the parasite load in primary *** macrophage viability IC50 values for resveratrol,echinomycin and CdCl_2 and mimosine were >40 μM,>100 nM,> 200 μM and>2 000 μM,*** vivo no differences between cutaneous lesions from control,resveratrol-and echinomycin-treated Balb/c mice were ***:Resveratrol,echinomycin and CdCl_2 reduce parasite survival in *** HIF-1α targeting pharmacological drugs require further study to more fully determine their anti-Leishmania potential and their role in therapeutic strategies.

Management of discarded tires is a compelling environmental issue *** there are several approaches developed to recycle waste tire rubbers,their application in solid-state cooling is still *** the high barocaloric potential verified for elastomers,the use of waste tire rubber(WTR)as a refrigerant in solid-state cooling devices is very ***,we investigated the barocaloric effects in WTR and polymer blends made of vulcanized natural rubber(VNR)and WTR,to evaluate its feasibility for solid-state cooling *** adiabatic temperature changes and the isothermal entropy changes reach giant values,as well as the performance parameters,being comparable or even better than most barocaloric materials in ***,pure WTR and WTR-based samples also present a faster thermal exchange than VNR,consisting of an additional advantage of using these discarded ***,the present findings evidence the encouraging perspectives of employing waste rubbers in solid-state cooling based on barocaloric effects,contributing to both the recycling of polymers and the sustainable energy technology field.

The present study reports the magnetizations and magneto-transport properties of PrFel_xNixO3 thin films grown by pulsed laser ablation technique on LaA103 snbstrates. From DC M/H plots of these films, weak ferromagnetism or ferrimagnetism behaviors are observed. With Ni substitution, reduction in saturation magnetization is also seen. With Ni doping, variations in saturation field （Hs）, coercive field （Hc）, Weiss temperature （0）, and effective magnetic moment （Pelf） are seen. A small change of magnetoresitance with application of higher field is observed. Various essential parameters like density of state （Nf） at Fermi level, Mott＇s characteristic temperature （To）, and activation energy （Ea） in the presence of and in the absence of magnetic field are calculated. The present observed magnetic properties are related to the change of Fe-O bond length （causing an overlap between the oxygen p orbital and iron d orbital） and the deviation of the Fe-O-Fe angle from 180~. Reduction of magnetic domain after Ni doping is also explored to explain the present observed magnetic behavior of the system. The influence of doping on various transport properties in these thin films indicates a distortion in the lattice structure and single particle band width, owing to stress-induced reduction in unit cell volume.

BACKGROUND Many studies have been developed with a focus on surgical techniques and drugs,but few that address the importance of rehabilitation in the pre and postoperative period,and the specific benefits for each surgical procedure or type of neoplasm,aiming to minimize respiratory complications in the postoperative *** To compare the strength of the respiratory muscles in the pre and postoperative periods of hepatectomy by laparotomy and to verify the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications among the groups *** Prospective,randomized,clinical trial study that compared the inspiratory muscle training group(GTMI)with the control group(CG).After the collection of sociodemographic and clinical data,in both groups,preoperatively,on the first and fifth postoperative days,vital signs and pulmonary mechanics were evaluated and *** and bilirubin values were recorded for the albumin-bilirubin(ALBI)*** randomization and allocation of participants,those in the CG underwent conventional physical therapy and those in the GTMI underwent conventional physical therapy plus inspiratory muscle,in both groups for five postoperative *** Of 76 subjects met eligibility *** collection of 41 participants was completed:20 in the CG and 21 in the *** most frequent diagnosis was 41.5%with liver metastasis,followed by 26.8%with hepatocellular *** for respiratory complications in the GTMI,there was no *** the CG,there were three respiratory *** in the CG classified as ALBI score 3 presented,statistically,a higher energy value compared to patients classified as ALBI score 1 and 2(P=0.0187).Respiratory variables,measured preoperatively and on the first postoperative day,had a significant drop in both groups from the preoperative to the first postoperative day(P≤0.0001).When comparing the preoperative period and the fifth postoperative day between the GTMI and the CG,the maximal inspira

Chikungunya and dengue viruses are transmitted by mosquitoes of genus Aedes. Based on a mathematical model dealing with arboviruses transmission that encompasses human and mosquito populations, the risks of dengue and chikungunya infections are compared. By the fact that chikungunya virus attains high viral load earlier than dengue virus in both humans and mosquitoes, the potential risk of chikungunya could be higher than the dengue infection. The risk of arboviruses infections is assessed by the reproduction number R, which is obtained by the next generation matrix method and Routh-Hurwitz criteria.

AIM: To evaluate the demographic characteristics and clinical phenotypes of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) in a geographic area in Northeastern ***: This retrospective study was conducted at the Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí in Northeastern Brazil. demographic characteristics and clinical phenotypes of IBD were analyzed in relation to the time of diagnostic confirmation, which was defined as the date of disease onset. Data were collected between January 2011 and december 2012 and included all census patients 18 years of age or older during that period for whom there was diagnostic confirmation of Crohn's disease(CD), ulcerative colitis(UC), or unclassified colitis according to the Montreal criteria. We also analyzed the period of time between the onset of clinical manifestations and the diagnosis of IBD(delay in the diagnosis). Statistical analyses included means and standard deviations for numeric variables and the Pearson χ2 adherence test for nominal variables. The annual index occurrence and overall prevalence of IBD at our institution were also calculated, with P values ded, including 152(60.3%) UC patients and 100(39.7%) CD patients. The clinical and demographic characteristics of all patients with IBD showed a female to male ratio of 1.3:1.0 and a mean age of35.2(SD = 14.5) years. In addition, the majority of patients were miscegenated(171, 67.9%), had received higher education(157, 62.4%), lived in urban areas(217, 86.1%), and were under the age of 40 years(97, 62.5%). For patients with CD, according to the Montreal classification, the predominant features present from the onset of disease were an age between 17 and 40 years(A2); colonic disease location(L2); and nonstricturing, nonfistulizing disease behavior(B1). Lignin is a polymer of phenylpropanoid compounds formed through a complex biosynthesis route, represented by a metabolic grid for which most of the genes involved have been sequenced in several plants, mainly in the model-plants Arabidopsis thaliana and Populus. Plants are exposed to different stresses, which may change lignin content and composition. In many cases, particularly for plant-microbe interactions, this has been suggested as defence responses of plants to the stress. Thus, understanding how a stressor modulates expression of the genes related with lignin biosynthesis may allow us to develop study-models to increase our knowledge on the metabolic control of lignin deposition in the cell wall. This review focuses on recent literature reporting on the main types of abiotic and biotic stresses that alter the biosynthesis of lignin in plants.
