Foreign exchange trading and management with the stochastic dual dynamic programming method

We present a novel tool for generating speculative and hedging foreign exchange(FX)trading policies.Our solution provides a schedule that determines trades in each rebalancing period based on future currency prices,net foreign account positions,and incoming(outgoing)flows from business operations.To obtain such policies,we construct a multistage stochastic programming(MSP)model and solve it using the stochastic dual dynamic programming(SDDP)numerical method,which specializes in solving high-dimensional MSP models.We construct our methodology within an open-source SDDP package,avoiding implementing the method from scratch.To measure the performance of our policies,we model FX prices as a mean-reverting stochastic process with random events that incorporate stochastic trends.We calibrate this price model on seven currency pairs,demonstrating that our trading policies not only outperform the benchmarks for each currency,but may also be close to ex-post optimal solutions.We also show how the tool can be used to generate more or less conservative strategies by adjusting the risk tolerance,and how it can be used in a vari-ety of contexts and time scales,ranging from intraday speculative trading to monthly hedging for business operations.Finally,we examine the impact of increasing trade policy uncertainty(TPU)levels on our findings.Our findings show that the volatility of currencies from emerging economies rises in comparison to currencies from devel-oped markets.We discover that an increase in the TPU level has no effect on the aver-age profit obtained by our method.However,the risk exposure of the policies increases(decreases)for the group of currencies from emerging(developed)markets.

This paper is dedicated to applying the Fourier amplitude sensitivity test(FAST)method to the problem of mixed extension and inflation of a circular cylindrical tube in the presence of residual stresses.The metafunctions and the Ishigami function are considered in the sensitivity analysis(SA).The effects of the input variables on the output variables are investigated,and the most important parameters of the system under the applied pressure and axial force such as the axial stretch and the azimuthal stretch are determined.

Mechanical models of residually stressed fibre-reinforced solids,which do not resist bending,have been developed in the literature.However,in some residually stressed fibre-reinforced elastic solids,resistance to fibre bending is significant,and the mechanical behavior of such solids should be investigated.Hence,in this paper,we model the mechanical aspect of residually stressed elastic solids with bending stiffness due to fibre curvature,which up to the authors’knowledge has not been mechanically modeled in the past.The proposed constitutive equation involves a nonsymmetric stress and a couple-stress tensor.Spectral invariants are used in the constitutive equation,where each spectral invariant has an intelligible physical meaning,and hence they are useful in experiment and analysis.A prototype strain energy function is proposed.Moreover,we use this prototype to give results for some cylindrical boundary value problems.

Quality of Life in Congenital Heart Disease Patients according to Their Anatomical and Physiological Classification

Background:Living well is as important as living longer.The objective of this study is to assess quality of life(QoL)in congenital heart disease(CHD)according to current AHA/ACC anatomical and physiological classification.Methods:Cross-sectional study examining the World Health Organization QoL Bref questionnaire(WHOQoL-Bref)in consecutive outpatient CHD patients from a single unit.Results:191 CHD patients were studied.Median age was 28±13 years and 59%were male.44(23%),115(60%)and 33(17%)CHD patients showed mild,moderate and great anatomical defects respectively while 69(36%)patients were in physiological Stage A,27(14%)in Stage B,84(44%)in Stage C and 11(6%)in Stage D.No significant differences were seen in relation the anatomical classification and the different sections of the WHOQoL-Bref questionnaire.CHD patients in Stages C and D had significant lower physical domain scores than patients in the Stage A(plass(NYHA≥2)[OR 3.44(95%CI,1.20-9.81),p=0.021]was associated with dissatisfaction with health.Conclusion:Patients with advanced physiological stages scored lower on the physiological domain.No statistical significance was seen,according to the anatomical and physiological classification,in the psychological,social relationship and environmental domains.

Thrombocytopenia (defined as platelet count 9/L) is present in 7% - 12% of pregnant women at delivery. Although there are mild etiologies of this condition that are often diagnosed incidentally, there are more severe causes that can be life threating. Thrombocytopenia also has a great implication in surgical risk and regional anesthesia. A structured evaluation of thrombocytopenia is necessary to allow an adequate diagnostic approach. Here we summarized the current knowledge of thrombocytopenia in pregnancy.

Facial nerve monitoring in parotid gland surgery:design and feasibility assessment of a potential standardized technique

Background:Even though the use of nerve monitoring during parotid gland surgery is not the gold standard to prevent damage to the nerve,it surely offers some advantages over the traditional approach.Different from thyroid surgery,where a series of steps in intraoperative nerve monitoring have been described to confirm not only the integrity but—most importantly—the function of the recurrent laryngeal nerve,in parotid gland surgery,a formal guideline to follow while dissecting the facial nerve has yet to be described.Methods:A five‐year retrospective study was done reviewing the intraoperative records of patients who underwent parotid gland surgery under neural monitoring.The operative findings regarding the neuromonitoring process,particularly in regard to the amplitude of two main branches,were revised.A literature search was done to search for guidelines to follow when a facial nerve loss of signal is encountered.Results:Fifty‐five patients were operated on using the Nim 3 Nerve Monitoring System(Medtronic);31 were female patients,and 47 patients had benign lesions.Minimum changes were observed in the amplitude records after a comparison was made between the first and the last stimulation.There were only three articles discussing the term loss of signal during parotid gland surgery.Conclusion:Today,no sufficient attention has been given to the facial nerve monitoring process during parotidectomy.This study proposes a formal guideline to follow during this procedure as well as an instruction to consider when a loss of signal is observed to develop a uniform technique of facial nerve stimulation.

Shear Resistance of Siltous Sands Improved with Bridelia Tannins

The ruin of several civil engineering works occurs due to shear rupture of the ground. When the stress is greater than the shear resistance, the internal friction angle and the cohesion of the soil loosen and rupture occurs. Cement and lime are often used to stabilize soils and improve soil strength. The costs and environmental problems of these technologies raise concerns and challenge researchers to innovate with clean, inexpensive materials, accessible to the most disadvantaged social classes. The question that this study seeks to answer is whether the binders derived from plant tannins, which also stabilize soils, improve the shear resistance of these soils. To do this, we determined for silty sand the shear parameters, notably the cohesion and the angle of internal friction in the non-stabilized state and when they are stabilized with the powder of the bark of the Bridelia under different water states. The results show that the addition of Bridelia powder to silty sand increases the cohesion of the soil by nearly 70.71% and the friction angle by 4.31%. But in unfavourable water conditions, the cohesion and internal friction angle of the silty sand material improved with Bridelia bark powder drops drastically by nearly 81.56%. but does not dissolve completely as for the same material. When it is not stabilized. This information is an invaluable contribution in the search for solutions to increase the durability of earthen constructions by improving the water-repellent properties of soils.

冰川是南美洲阿根廷门多萨流域(33°S)重要的淡水资源,冰川作为气候变化的敏感指示器,对于理解和评估全球和区域气候变化具有重要意义。为了解门多萨流域冰川分布及变化趋势,探讨其对区域水资源和生态系统的影响,为应对气候变化提供科学依据,研究基于1990-2020年Landsat遥感影像,参考RGI冰川编目数据和阿根廷国家冰川清单,通过比值阈值法和人工解译法得到7期冰川边界,研究了门多萨流域冰川面积分布与变化特征。并结合TerraClimate气候数据,揭示了该区域在研究期间的气候变化趋势,探讨了区域气候变化对冰川变化的影响。结果表明:①2020年门多萨流域冰川面积为134.09±11.86 km^(2),1990-2020年冰川总体呈极显著波动下降趋势(p10 km^(2)占比最大,10 km^(2)规模冰川退缩速度最大;冰川主要分布在南坡,西北坡冰川最少,东南、东北坡冰川退缩速度最大;冰川主要分布在坡度5°~40°之间,50°~55°的冰川退缩速度最大;冰川主要分布在海拔4200~5400 m之间,<4000 m冰川退缩速率最大。③20世纪50年代末以来门多萨地区气温整体呈现极显著的上升趋势(p<0.001),研究区年均最高、最低气温每十年上升0.53、0.29℃。气温持续上升是门多萨流域冰川退缩的长期原因,降水变化是该区域冰川变化的短期原因。本研究为门多萨流域预防冰川变化导致的水资源可用性变化和地质灾害预防提供参考。

A review from mesenchymal stem-cells and their small extracellular vesicles in tissue engineering

This review aims to offer a vision of the clinical reality of cell therapy today in intensive medicine.For this,it has been carried out a description of the properties,functions,and Mesenchymal Stem Cells(MSCS)sources to subsequently address the evidence in preclinical models and studies clinical trials with whole cells and models attributed to small extracellular vesicles(sEVs),nanoparticles made up of microvesicles secreted by cells with an effect on the extracellular matrix,and their impact as an alternative towards cell-free regenerative medicine.MSCs are cells that enhance the regenerative capacity which can be differentiated typically in different lineages committed as bone,cartilage,and adipose tissue.On the other hand,small extracellular vesicles are structures that participate notoriously and crucially in intercellular communication,which has led to a change in the concept of the functions and the role that these vesicles play in living organisms,in the restoration of damaged tissues and the inflammatory response and immunological.We present the mechanisms that are involved in the applications of MSCS as whole cells and their sEVs in cell therapy and cell-free therapy as an alternative in regenerative medicine.Considering the structural loss that occurs after surgical procedures for cystic and tumoral pathology in periodontitis,as well as the maxillary atrophy that determines the rehabilitation with dental implants,it is imperative to find satisfactory solutions.The opportunity provided by the findings in stem cells is a recent introduction in the field of oral surgery,based on the regenerative potential that these cells possess to restore defects at different levels of the oral cavity.This review aims to discover the real applications that stem cells may have in our treatments shortly.
