Long and well-aligned ZnO nanowires were hydrothermally synthesized on FTO glass based on a ZnO seed layer which was prepared by spin-coating and annealing *** effect of the growth solution refreshment on the morphology of ZnO nanowires was investigated and the possible mechanism was *** refreshing the growth solution for 5 cycles,ZnO nanowires of ~ 120 nm in diameter and ~ 20 /μm in length were *** prepared ZnO nanowires were used as photoelectrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells（DSSCs）,showing excellent photovoltaic *** the increase of growth cycles of ZnO nanowires,the photocurrent of DSSCs increased obviously due to the increased dye loading on the surface of ZnO *** results indicated that the lone and well-aligned ZnO nanowires are promising for DSSCs application.

As dipyranylidenes are excellent hole carriers, applications in organic solar cells or organic light emitting diode are envisaged. In the present study, we investigate the morphology of 2,2＇,6,6＇-tetraphenyl-4,4＇-dipyranylidene （DIPO-Ph4） deposited under vacuum on a silicon nitride （Si3N4） substrate, a paradigmatic system for the study of molecular crystal/inorganic substrate interfaces. Samples with various coating ratios and different thermal treatments were prepared. The films were characterized by atomic force microscopy and scanning transmission X-ray microscopy to gain insight into material growth. The results show a change in orientation at a molecular level depending upon the evaporation conditions. We are now able to tailor an organic layer with a specific molecular orientation and a specific electronic behavior.

AIM: To investigate the phenotype of inflammatory bowel disease associated with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC-IBD). METHODS: Data from 75 PSC-IBD patients evaluated in our tertiary center between 1963 and 2006 were collected and compared to 150 IBD patients without PSC, matched for sex, birth date, IBD diagnosis date and initial disease location regarding ileal, different colonic segments, and rectum, respectively. RESULTS: While PSC-IBD patients received more 5-aminosalicylates (8.7 years/patient vs 2.9 years/ patient, P 6% at 10 years; P 67% vs 91% in controls at 25 years, P = 0.001).CONCLUSION: This study confirms that patients with PSC-IBD have a particular disease phenotype independent of the initial disease location. Although their disease is less active and they use more 5-aminosalicylates, they present a higher risk of colorectal cancer.

We report a unique case of communicating gastric duplication associated with pancreas divisum,diagnosed with a multidisciplinary approach,including X-rays,computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,esophagogastro duodenoscopy,ultrasound endoscopy and histology. We believe that this approach constitutes a fuller diagnostic evaluation,resulting in better and safer surgery.

Intracerebral injections of tracers or viral constructs in rodents are now commonly used in the neurosciences and must be executed perfectly. The purpose of this article is to update existing protocols for intracerebral injections in adult and neonatal mice. Our procedure for stereotaxic injections in adult mice allows the investigator to improve the effectiveness and safety, and save time. Furthermore, for the first time, we describe a two-handed procedure for intracerebral injections in neonatal mice that can be performed by a single operator in a very short time. Our technique using the stereotaxic arm allows a higher precision than freehand techniques previously described. Stereotaxic injections in adult mice can be performed in 20 min and have 〉90% efficacy in targeting the injection site. Injections in neonatal mice can be performed in 5 min. Efficacy depends on the difficulty of precisely localizing the injection sites, due to the small size of the animal. We describe an innovative, effortless, and reproducible surgical protocol for intracerebral injections in adult and neonatal mice.

Benign stricture is a relatively common complication of colorectal anastomosis after low anterior resection. On occasion, the anastomosis may close completely. A variety of endoscopic techniques have been described, but there is a lack of data from controlled prospective trials as to the optimal approach. Through-the-scope balloon dilatation is well known and easy to perform. Some case reports describe different endoscopic approaches, including endoscopic electrocision with a papillotomy knife or hook knife. We report a case of a colorectal anastomosis web occlusion, treated without electrocision. Gastrografin enema and sigmoidoscopy showed complete obstruction at the anastomotic site due to the presence of an anastomotic occlusive web. In order to avoid thermal injuries, we decided to use a suprapapillary biliary puncture catheter. The Artifon catheter was inserted into the center of the circular staple line at the level of the anastomosis, and fluoroscopic identification of the proximal bowel was obtained with dye injection. A 0.025-inch guidewire was then passed through the catheter into the colon and progressive pneumatic dilatation was performed. The successful destruction of the occlusive web facilitated passage of the colonoscope, allowing evaluation of the entire colon and stoma closure after three months of follow-up. The patient tolerated the procedure well, with no complications. This report highlights an alternative non-electrosurgical approach that uses a new device that proved to be safe and useful.

Multiple regions of the genome have been associated with the risk of prostate cancer in Caucasians, particularly including several polymorphisms located at 8q24. Region 2 of 8q24 has been repeatedly found to be associated with the risk of prostate cancer among men of African descent, although one study performed in the Caribbean island of Jamaica did not report this finding. In this study, the single nucleotide polymorphism rs16901979, located in region 2 of 8q24, was genotyped in 498 cases of histologically confirmed prostate cancer and 541 controls from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, where the population is largely of African descent. The AA genotype and the A allele at rs16901979 were associated with elevated risks of prostate cancer （odds ratios [ORs] = 1.84, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 1.26-2.69, P= 0.002 and OR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.13-1.64, P= 0.001, respectively）. Following stratification of the patients by disease aggressiveness, as defined by the Gleason score, the pooled genotypes AC ＋ AA were associated with a higher risk of a Gleasen score 〉7 at diagnosis （OR = 1.79, 95% CI = 1.17-2.73, P= 0.007）. In summary, the A allele at rs16901979 was associated with the risk of prostate cancer in the Caribbean population of Guadeloupe, confirming its involvement in populations of African descent. Moreover, our study provides the first evidence of an association between this variant and the risk of aggressive prostate cancer.

Lg-waves propagate over long distances in the northern part of Africa and are recorded on the seismic station located close to Abeche (Chad). We have applied the well-known coda analysis method developed by Aki and Chouet [1] to study the Lg-wave anelastic attenuation in this area. We found a frequency dependence: Q( f ) = (650±34) f (0.77±0.2). This result shows an average value of Q0 (Q0 ≈ 650) for earthquakes occurred in tectonic areas as the East African Rift system, Turkey, Greece and Red Sea. The higher value of Q0 (Q0 ≈ 800) is obtained for the event occurred in the middle of the stable plate close to the Tamanrasset (TAM) station in Algeria.
