Background:Administrative database provides valuable information for large cohort studies,especially when tissue diagnosis is rather difficult such as the diagnosis for bile duct cancer(BDC).The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of administrative database for BDC by International Classification of Diseases(ICD)-10 codes in a tertiary ***:BDC and control groups were collected from 2003 to 2016 at Seoul National University Bundang *** of BDC were identified in the National Health Insurance Service(NHIS)database by ICD 10-code supported by V *** control group was selected from cases without ICD-10 codes for BDC.A definite or possible diagnosis was defined according to pathologic *** records,images,and pathology reports were analyzed to evaluate ICD-10 codes for ***,specificity,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value for BDC were analyzed according to diagnostic criteria and cancer ***:A total of 1707 patients with BDC and 1707 controls were *** those with BDC,1320(77.3%)were diagnosed by definite ***(99.4%)of them had *** of definite diagnosis was the highest for ampulla of Vater(88.9%),followed by that for extrahepatic(84.9%)and intrahepatic(68.3%)*** positive cases commonly had hepatocellular *** overall diagnosis of BDC,sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value were 99.94%,98.33%,98.30%,and 99.94%,*** accuracies were similar regardless of diagnostic criteria or tumor ***:Administrative database for BDC collected according to ICD-10 code with V code shows good accuracy.

Recently,a number of studies reported that casein was composed of various multifunctional bioactive peptides such as casein phosphopeptide andβ-casochemotide-1 that bind calcium ions and induce macrophage chemotaxis,which is crucial for bone homeostasis and bone fracture repair by cytokines secreted in the *** hypothesized that the effects of the multifunctional biopeptides in casein would contribute to improving bone ***,we designed a tissue engineering platform that consisted of casein and polyvinyl alcohol,which was a physical-crosslinked scaffold(milk-derived protein;MDP),via simple freeze-thaw cycles and performed surface modification using 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine(DOPA),a mussel adhesive protein,for immobilizing adhesive proteins and cytokines for recruiting cells in vivo(MDP-DOPA).Both the MDP and MDP-DOPA groups proved indirectly contribution of macrophages migration as RAW 264.7 cells were highly migrated toward materials by contained bioactive *** implanted MDP and MDP-DOPA in a mouse calvarial defect orthotopic model and evaluated whether MDP-DOPA showed much faster mineral deposition and higher bone density than that of the no-treatment and MDP *** MDP-DOPA group showed the accumulation of host M2 macrophages and mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)around the scaffold,whereas MDP presented mostly M1 macrophages in the early stage.

Land use change is a very important issue considering global dynamics and their response to hydrologic characteristics of soil and water management in a catchment.A significant land use change has been observed in the Tekeze dam *** main objective of this study was to estimate the potential impacts of the land use land cover(LULC)dynamics on hydrological response(stream flow and sediment yield).This was done by integrating SWAT model with *** simulation and sensitivity analysis for each land use was done by dividing the catchment in to 47 sub-catchments and assigning HRUs based on multiple HRU *** a sensitivity analysis,calibration and validation of SWAT model,the impact of LULC dynamics on hydrological response were evaluated with three scenarios(climate of 2000s&2008 LULC,climate of 2000s&1986 LULC and climate of 1980s&1986 LULC).In the Tekeze dam watershed,land cover change had a beneficial impact on modeled watershed response due to the transition from grass and shrub land to agricultural *** results for the Tekeze dam watershed indicates that increasing bare land and agricultural areas resulted in increased annual and seasonal stream flow and sediment yield in *** mean annual stream flow was increased by 6.02%(129.20-137.74 m^(3)/s)and the impact on sediment yield amounts to an increase of 17.39%(12.54-15.18 t/ha/yr)due to LULC *** hydrological response was more sensitive to LULC dynamics for the months of August to October than others in the *** results demonstrate the usefulness of integrating remote sensing and distributed hydrologic models through the use of GIS for assessing watershed conditions and the relative impacts of land cover transitions on hydrologic response in a continuous manner.

The Wnt signaling pathway plays key roles in differentiation and development and alterations in this signaling pathway are causally associated with numerous human diseases. While several laboratories were examining roles for Wnt signaling in skeletal development during the 1990s, interest in the pathway rose exponentially when three key papers were published in 2001-2002. One report found that loss of the Wnt co-receptor, Low-density lipoprotein related protein-5 （LRPS）, was the underlying genetic cause of the syndrome Osteoporosis pseudoglioma （OPPG）. OPPG is characterized by early-onset osteoporosis causing increased susceptibility to debilitating fractures. Shortly thereafter, two groups reported that individuals carrying a specific point mutation in LRP5 （G171V） develop high-bone mass. Subsequent to this, the causative mechanisms for these observations heightened the need to understand the mechanisms by which Wnt signaling controlled bone development and homeostasis and encouraged significant investment from biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to develop methods to activate Wnt signaling to increase bone mass to treat osteoporosis and other bone disease. In this review, we will briefly summarize the cellular mechanisms underlying Wnt signaling and discuss the observations related to OPPG and the high-bone mass disorders that heightened the appreciation of the role of Wnt signaling in normal bone development and homeostasis. We will then present a comprehensive overview of the core components of the pathway with an emphasis on the phenotypes associated with mice carrying genetically engineered mutations in these genes and clinical observations that further link alterations in the pathway to changes in human bone.

AIM: To clarify the diagnostic values of hematoxylin and eosin (HE), D2-40, CD31, CD34, and HHV-8 immunohistochemical (IHC) staining in gastrointestinal Kaposi's sarcoma (GI-KS) in relation to endoscopic tumor staging. METHODS: Biopsy samples (n = 133) from 41 human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients were reviewed. GI-KS was defined as histologically negative for other GI diseases and as a positive clinical response to KS therapy. The receiver operating characteristic area under the curve (ROC-AUC) was compared in relation to lesion size, GI location, and macroscopic appearances on endoscopy. RESULTS: GI-KS was confirmed in 84 lesions (81.6%). Other endoscopic findings were polyps (n = 9), inflammation (n = 4), malignant lymphoma (n = 4), and condyloma (n = 2), which mimicked GI-KS on endoscopy. ROC-AUC of HE, D2-40, blood vessel markers, and HHV-8 showed results of 0.83, 0.89, 0.80, and 0.82, respectively. For IHC staining, the ROC-AUC of D2-40 was significantly higher (P tumor staging (e.g. , small to large, patches, and polypoid to SMT appearance). D2-40 was significantly (P tumor staging. D2-40 will be useful for complementing HE staining in the diagnosis of GI-KS, especially in the upper GI tract and for polypoid appearance.

While there is mounting evidence that interleukin （IL）-23-IL-17 axis plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases, much remains to be elucidated on how IL-23 is induced in the pathological processes. IL-23 is a heterodimer composed of p19 and p40, the latter being shared with IL-12. We previously reported that prostaglandin （PG） E2 promotes CD40-mediated induction of 1123a （p19） expression through its E receptor subtype 4 （EP4） receptor in splenic dendritic cells （DCs）. Here, we have analyzed signaling pathways regulating 1123a induction in the cross talk between EP4 and CD40 in bone marrow-derived DCs. We found that PGE2 synergistically induced 1123a transcription with CD40 signaling. An EP4 agonist, but not agonists of EP1, EP2, or EP3, reproduced this action. Stimulation of CD40 with an agonist antibody evoked biphasic induction of 1123a expression, with the early phase peaking at 1 h and the late phase peaking at 12 h and lasting up to 36 h after stimulation, whereas induction by lipopolysaccharide or tumor necrosis factor-α was transient. The early phase induction by CD40 stimulation was absent in DCs derived from Nfkbl-deficient mice, and the late phase induction was eliminated by RNA interference of nuclear factor-kappa B （NF-κB） p100 subunit. Further, cAMP response element-binding protein （CREB） depletion completely eliminated the induction of 1123a by CD40 stimulation. The addition of the EP4 agonist amplified the induction in both phases through the cAMP-protein kinase A （PKA） pathway. These results suggest that 1123a expression in DCs is synergistically triggered by the PG E2-EP4-cAMP-PKA pathway and canonical/non-canonical NF-KB pathways and CREB activated by CD40 stimulation.
