T Wave Amplitude Deviation as a Participation Marker of Glycolysis in Myocardial Repolarization

Glucose metabolism is essential for heart physiology, especially in ischemic conditions. Anaerobic glycolysis participates along with aerobic fatty acid oxidation in generating energy supply, and the balance is shifted towards fatty acids. In the case of aerobic path restriction due to coronary artery disease (CAD), this ratio changes. The aim of the present research was to discover the aspects of glycolysis in cardiac electrophysiology.?We utilized the normalized (by average value) T wave amplitude deviation values, named the G criterion,?from high-resolution, 12-channel, 120-seconds-long electrocardiograms,?which were obtained using DACG technology. The calculated G criterion allows a quantitative assessment of the ischemic process and corresponds to the functional class (FC) according to the Canadian cardiovascular classification. We examined 22 healthy people and 79 proven CAD patients: 24 II FC, 40 III FC and 15 IV FC by original ECG and fasting blood sugar tests. A strong correlation was found between the average G criterion from all 12 channels and the level of fasting blood sugar (r = +0.88). In the control group, blood sugar levels were 91 ± 6.5 mg/dl, II FC 103 ± 14.8 mg/dl (p < 0.01), III FC 113 ± 23.4 mg/dl (p < 0.001), and IV FC 152 ± 42.4 (p < 0.001). Moreover, the correlation factor (average G criterion and blood sugar) was strong and positive in each group: control +0.72, II FC +0.83, III FC +0.76, and IV FC +0.89. For the first time, heart electrical activity from the ECG curve was associated with high glucose level as one of the main CAD risk factors. The presence of such dependence of increased blood sugar level from the severity of the ischemic process in the myocardium indicates that hyperglycemic reaction is adaptive and can accelerate the anaerobic glycolysis for energy demand compensation in heart muscle.

Association of Serum Ferritin Levels and Thyroid Hormones

Thyroid metabolism is orchestrated by the action of various minerals and trace elements including iron, iodine, selenium, and zinc. Iron deficiency, specifically deficiency in serum ferritin levels, is one of the common causes of thyroid dysfunction. Our objective was to evaluate the relationship between serum ferritin levels and circulating thyroid hormones. For this, a retrospective analysis was performed on 16,512 individuals who tested for serum levels of ferritin and thyroid profile at Vibrant America Clinical Laboratories. Subjects were stratified based on the serum levels of ferritin. Age (p −0.03232, p < 0.0001). Analysis of Linear association by Pearson’s correlation exhibited a considerable correlation between varying serum ferritin levels with all tested thyroid hormones. The study concludes that serum ferritin levels were associated with thyroid hormone synthesis and metabolism in individuals with optimal levels of circulating ferritin.

Hypothesizing “Reward” Gene Polymorphisms May Predict High Rates of Injury and Addiction in the Workforce: A Nutrient and Electrotherapeutic Based Solution

We hypothesize that individuals with genetic predisposition to Substance Use Disorder (SUD) may have greater likelihood of experiencing work related accidents. We further hypothesize that high risk populations will carry single or multiple polymorphisms associated with brain reward circuitry and/or brain reward cascade, including: Dopaminergic (i.e. DRD2 receptor genes);Serotonergic (i.e. 5-HTT2 receptor genes);Endorphinergic (i.e. pre-enkephalin genes);Gabergic (i.e. GABAA receptor genes);Neurotransmitter Metabolizing genes (i.e. MAO and COMT genes) among others (GARSRXTM). Analgesic addiction as well as “pseudoaddiction” must be treated to improve pain control and its management. We propose that non-pharmacological alternatives to pain relief, in high risk, addiction-prone individuals, are Electrotherapeutic Device(s) and Programs. We further propose patented KB220Z, a nutraceutical designed to release dopamine at the nucleus accumbens, will reduce craving behavior, in genetically programmed individuals. By utilizing both alternatives in DNA analyzed injured workers, a reduction in analgesic addiction (genuine or pseudo) leads to improved health and quicker return to work. We also hypothesize that this novel approach will impact costs related to injuries in the workforce. Effective management of chronic pain, especially in high addiction-prone workforce populations, is possible in spite of being particularly elusive. A series of factors encumber pain assessment and management, including analgesia addiction, pharmacogenomic response to pain medications, and genetically inherited factors involving gene polymorphisms. Additional research is required to test these stipulated hypotheses related to genetic proneness to addiction, but also proneness to accidents in the workplace and reduction of craving behavior. Terahertz radiation-enhanced-emission-of-fluorescence

Terahertz （THz） wave science and technology have been found countless applications in biomedical imaging, security screening, and non-destructive testing as they approach maturity. However, due to the challenge of high ambient moisture absorption, the development of remote open-air broadband THz spectroscopy technology is lagging behind the compelling need that exists in homeland security, astronomy and environmental monitoring. Furthermore, the underlying physical mechanisms behind the interaction between the THz wave and laserinduced plasma which responds strongly to electromag- netic waves have not been fully understood. This review aims to explain the light-plasma interaction at THz frequencies within a semiclassical framework along with experimental study of the femtosecond-laser- induced nitrogen plasma fluorescence under the illumination of single-cycle THz pulses. The results indicate that THz-radiation-enhanced-emission-of-fluorescence （THz- REEF） is dominated by electron kinetics in the THz field and the electron-impact excitation of gas molecules/ions. The information of the time-dependent THz field can be recovered from the measured time-resolved THz-REEF from single-color laser induced plasma with the help of the bias as local oscillator. The calculations and experimental verification lead to complete understanding of the science behind these effects and push forward to extend their capabilities in related applications such as remote THz sensing, plasma diagnostics and ultrafast photoluminescence modulation. Systematic studies in selected gases including neon, argon, krypton, xenon, methane （CH4）, ethane （C2H6）, propane （C3H8）, and n-butane （C4Hlo） gases were performed to obtain an improved understanding of the THz-REEF. The dependences of the enhanced fluorescence on the THz field, laser excitation intensity, gas pressure, and intrinsic atomic properties were experimentally characterized. Kidding after Transfer of in Vitro Produced Saanen Goat Embryos into Local Ukrainian Breed Recipients in Different Seasons

In recent years, the demand for goat products has been growing due to the fact that goat milk has a number of advantages over cow milk, for example, it is low in lactose, and is considered less allergenic and easier to digest. To increase production during both breeding and non-breeding seasons and reduce the price of dairy products, it is necessary to effectively use reproductive management and assisted reproductive technologies. In vitro embryo production makes it possible to obtain a large number of eggs from goats, which for some reason are unable to conceive, but have genetic value. Afterward in vitro produced embryos can be transferred into recipient goats of other less genetically valuable breeds, such as the Ukrainian local breed. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of transfers of in vitro produced embryos of Saanen goats into surrogate sires of the Ukrainian local breed in different seasons. All manipulations with animals were carried out following ethical standards (Strasbourg, 1986). Six Saanen goats were selected as the oocyte donors. After the hormonal stimulation oocytes were retrieved by laparoscopic ovum pick-up. In vitro produced embryos were transferred laparotomically into 24 recipients of Ukrainian local breed. Fifty days after embryo transfers, pregnancies were determined by ultrasound diagnostics. Although the embryo development rate in the breeding season was 20% higher than in the non-breeding season, there was no difference in pregnancy and kidding rates between seasons. In conclusion, the transfer of in vitro produced Saanen goat embryos to recipients of the Ukrainian local breed gives the opportunity to achieve pregnancy and kidding regardless of the breeding season, which will enable a faster and more efficient increase in the livestock of highly productive goats in Ukraine in the post-war period.

Application of GLAD-PCR Assay for Study on DNA Methylation in Regulatory Regions of Some Tumor-Suppressor Genes in Lung Cancer

Hypermethylation of the gene regulatory regions are common for many cancer diseases. In this work we applied GLAD-PCR assay for identificating of the aberrantly methylated RCGY sites in the regulatory regions of some downregulated genes in tissue samples of lung cancer(LC). This list includes EFEMP1, EPHA5, HOXA5, HOXA9, LHX1, MYF6, NID2, OTX1, PAX9, RARB, RASSF1 A, RXRG, SIX6, SKOR1 and TERT genes. The results of DNA samples from 40 cancer and 25 normal lung tissues showed a good diagnostic potential of selected RCGY sites in regulatory regions of MYF6, SIX6, RXRG, LHX1, RASSF1 A and TERT genes with relatively high sensitivity(80.0 %) and specificity(88.0 %) of LC detection in tumor DNA.
