Traditional chinese Herbal medicine for Perimenopausal Depression of chinese Women:A Meta-analysis

Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of traditional chinese herbal medicine(TCHM) in treatment of perimenopausal depression(PD) in China. Methods: To identify randomized controlled trials, an electronic search has been conducted through databases as follows: PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, chinese Biological medicine Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, chinese Scientific Journal Database, and WanFang Digital Periodicals *** quality was evaluated by Cochrane Collaboration's tool which is able to assess the risk of bias in Review Manager ***'s more, meta-analysis was performed by using Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.2 software,(Nordic Cochrane Centre, Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, and Denmark). Dichotomous data were analyzed by using relative risk(RR) and 95% confidence interval(CI).Continuous variables were analyzed using weighted mean differences(WMDs) and 95% CI. Subgroup analysis was performed by the type of medicine which was used in the experimental group. Results: This meta-analysis includes 11 randomized control trials with 818 *** to the control group(RR: 1.14, 95% CI: [1.03, 1.26], P = 0.009 and WMD:-2.09, 95% CI: [-3.58,-0.18]), the experimental group had a significant higher clinical efficacy rate and relatively lower Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAM-D) score. For clinical efficacy rate, the results varied depending on the detail treatment measures of the experimental group. In the experimental group with TCHM,no significant difference was observed(RR: 1.14, 95% CI: [0.97, 1.33]), while in the experimental group combined with western medicine,a significant difference in the clinical efficacy rate between the experimental group and control group showed up(RR: 1.15, 95% CI: [1.01,1.32], P = 0.04). Implementation strategies to improve evidence-based practice for post-stroke dysphagia identification and management:A before-andafter study

Objectives Even though guidelines are available to guide dysphagia identification and management practice,there is still a gap between evidence and practice,which requires *** purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using tailored,multifaceted strategies to improve evidence-based post-stroke dysphagia identification and management practice in a community *** Guided by the Knowledge to Action framework,the tailored,multifaceted strategies were developed and implemented for 5 months in a community hospital using a before-and-after study *** strategies consisted of training intervention,policy intervention,and audit and feedback ***’level of knowledge and adherence,were collected in March 2019 and again in January ***’quality of life and satisfaction were evaluated during the pre-intervention period(between February 2019 and April 2019)and the post-intervention period(between November 2019 and January 2020).Results A total of 55 patients with post-stroke dysphagia(28 in the pre-intervention period and 27 in the post-intervention period)and 17 registered nurses were *** implementation,there were statistically significant improvements in patients’outcomes(quality of life and satisfaction)and nurses’outcomes(level of knowledge and adherence).Conclusions This study assists in closing the research-practice gap by using tailored,multifaceted strategies to increase the use of evidence-based nursing care for dysphagia identification and management practices.

Objective:To assess the efficacy and safety of Bushen Huoxue Formula(BSHXF)for the treatment of discogenic low-back pain(DLBP).Methods:This was a parallel,double-blind,randomized,clinical trial performed between May 2019 and June *** patients were assigned by computerized random number table to the treatment group(lumbar traction and BSHXF,35 cases)or the control group(lumbar traction and placebo,35 cases).The patients received intervention for 3 *** was conducted before treatment and at week 1,2,3 during *** outcome was the self-reported score of Oswestry Disability Index(ODI).Secondary outcomes included Visual Analog Scale(VAS),clinical efficacy rate by minimal clinically important difference(MCID)as well as lumbar tenderness,muscle tone and lumbar spine *** reactions were ***-up was performed at 1 and 3 months after the end of ***:In the treatment group,ODI score was significantly decreased compared with baseline(P<0.05)and the control group at 2-and 3-week ***,VAS score decreased compared with the baseline(P<0.05)and was lower than that in the control group at 2-and 3-week treatment(P<0.05).The clinical efficacy rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group after treatment[32.35%(11/34)vs.3.13%(1/32),P<0.05].Moreover,the tenderness,and muscle tone,as well as the back extension and left flexion in lumbar spine mobility in the treatment group at 3-week treatment were significantly improved compared with the control group(P<0.05).Follow-up showed that at 1-month after treatment,the treatment group had better outcomes than the control group with regard to a total score of ODI and VAS scores,as well as clinical efficacy rate(all P<0.05).Moreover,VAS score was still significantly lower than the control group at 3-month follow-up(P<0.05).No adverse reactions were reported during the ***:BSXHF combined with lumbar traction can significantly imp

Objective The scientific community knows little about the long-term influence of coronavirus disease2019(COVID-19) on olfactory dysfunction(OD). With the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing worldwide, the risk of imported cases remains high. In China, it is necessary to understand OD in imported *** A prospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 11 self-reported patients with COVID-19 and OD from Xi’an No. 8 hospital were followed between August 19, 2021, and December 12, ***, clinical characteristics, laboratory and radiological findings, and treatment outcomes were analyzed at admission. We surveyed the patients via telephone for recurrence and sequelae at the1-, 6-, and 12-month *** Eleven patients with OD were enrolled;of these, 54.5%(6/11) had hyposmia and 45.5%(5/11)had anosmia. 63.6%(7/11) reported OD before or on the day of admission as their initial symptom;of these, 42.9%(3/7) described OD as the only symptom. All patients in the study received combined treatment with traditional chinese medicine and Western medicine, and 72.7%(8/11) had partially or fully recovered at discharge. In terms of OD recovery at the 12-month follow-up, 45.5%(5/11) reported at least one sequela, 81.8%(9/11) had recovered completely, 18.2%(2/11) had recovered partially, and there were no recurrent *** Our data revealed that OD frequently presented as the initial or even the only symptom among imported cases. Most OD improvements occurred in the first 2 weeks after onset, and patients with COVID-19 and OD had favorable treatment outcomes during long-term follow-up. A better understanding of the pathogenesis and appropriate treatment of OD is needed to guide clinicians in the care of these patients.

Protective Effect of Tangshen Formula on Interstitial Cells of Cajal in Colon of Diabetic Rats

Objective:To explore the effect of Tangshen Formula(TSF),a chinese herbal medicine,on interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC)in the colon of diabetic ***:Fifty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control(NC,n=14)and high-fat diet(HFD)groups(n=40).After 6 weeks,the rats in the HFD group were injected intraperitoneally streptozotocin once(30 mg/kg).Thirty rats with fasting blood glucose higher than 11.7 mmol/L were randomly divided into diabetes(DM)and TSF groups,15 rats in each *** in the NC and DM groups were intragastrically administered with saline,and those in the TSF group were given with TSF(2.4 g/kg)once daily for 20 *** levels of Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3 in colonic smooth muscle layer were measured by Western blotting and immunohistochemical *** number of ICC was determined by immunohistochemical *** was used for analyzing the ratio of classically activated macrophages(M1)and alternatively activated macrophages(M2)to total *** microscopy was used to observe the epithelial ultrastructure and ***:TSF appeared to partially prevented loss of ICC in DM rats(P<0.05).Compared with the NC group,expression levels of Bcl-2,Bax,caspase-3,and TNF-αas well as the ratio of M1 to total macrophages increased in DM rats(all P<0.05),and the ratio of M2 to total macrophages decreased(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Compared with the DM group,TSF decreased the expression levels of abovementioned proteins and restore M2 to total macrophages ratio(P<0.05 or P<0.01).TSF appeared to attenuate the ultrastructural changes of epithelia and improve the tight and desmosome junctions between epithelia reduced in the DM ***:Reduced number of ICC in DM rats may be associated with damage of the intestinal *** protective effects of TSF on ICC may be through repair of the epithelial junctions,which attenuates inflammation and inflammation-initiated apoptosis in colon of DM rats.

Learning curves of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy in transforaminal approach at the L4/5 and L5/S1 levels: a comparative study

Objectives： This study aimed to compare the learning curves of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy （PELD） in a transforaminal approach at the L4/5 and L5/S1 levels. Methods： We retrospectively reviewed the first 60 cases at the L4/5 level （Group I） and the first 60 cases at the L5/S1 level （Group II） of PELD performed by one spine surgeon. The patients were divided into subgroups A, B, and C （Group I： A cases 1-20, B cases 21-40, C cases 41-60; Group I1： A cases 1-20, B cases 21-40, C cases 41-60）. Operation time was thoroughly analyzed. Results： Compared with the L4/5 level, the learning curve of transforaminal PELD at the L5/S1 level was flatter. The mean operation times of Groups IA, IB, and IC were （88.75±17.02）, （67.75±6.16）, and （64.85±7.82） min, respectively. There was a significant difference between Groups A and B （P〈0.05）, but no significant difference between Groups B and C （P=-0.20）. The mean operation times of Groups IIA, liB, and IIC were （117.25±13.62）, （109.50±11.20）, and （92.15±11.94） rain, respectively. There was no significant difference between Groups A and B （P=0.06）, but there was a significant difference between Groups B and C （P〈0.05）. There were 6 cases of postoperative dysesthesia （POD） in Group I and 2 cases in Group IIA （P=-0.27）. There were 2 cases of residual disc in Group I, and 4 cases in Group II （P=0.67）. There were 3 cases of recurrence in Group I, and 2 cases in Group II （P〉0.05）. Conclusions： Compared with the L5/S1 level, the learning curve of PELD in a transforaminal approach at the L4/5 level was steeper, suggesting that the L4/5 level might be easier to master after short-term professional training.

Effect of acupuncture plus Tai Ji Quan on the recovery of neurological function and depression state in post-stroke depression patients

Objective：To observe the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture plus Tai Ji Quan （Tai Chi） in recovering the neurological function and treating depression state in post-stroke depression patients,together with a 12-month ***：A total of 105 eligible post-stroke depression patients were randomized into an acupuncture plus Tai Ji group （53 cases） and a control group （52 cases） based on their visiting *** patients all received routine treatment and rehabilitation training for *** addition,the control group was given oral administration of citalopram hydrobromide tablets,1 month as a course of treatment,for 3 courses in ***,the acupuncture plus Tai Ji group received acupuncture and practiced Tai Ji Quan,for 1 month and 12 months *** the intervention,after 1-month intervention and 12 months later,the National Institute of Health stroke scale （NIHSS）,Barthel index （BI） and Hamilton depression rating scale （HAMD） were adopted for efficacy ***：Prior to the intervention,there were no significant differences in HAMD,NIHSS and BI scores between the two groups （all P〉0.05）;after 1-month intervention,there were significant between-group differences in NIHSS,BI and HAMD scores （P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）;the 12-month follow-up revealed significant between-group differences in NIHSS,BI and HAMD scores （all P〈0.01）.In the treatment of stroke,the total effective rate was 84.4% in the acupuncture plus Tai Ji group,significantly higher than 68.9% in the control group （P〈0.05）;in the treatment of depression,the total effective rate was 86.7% in the acupuncture plus Tai Ji group,significantly higher than 77.8% in the control group （P〈0.05）.Conclusion：Acupuncture plus Tai Ji Quan can produce a significant efficacy in improving the limb motor function and depression in post-stroke depression patients.
