Objective: Rosa odorata var. gigantea is a popular medicinal plant. Some studies have demonstrated that ethanolic extract of the fruits of R. odorata var. gigantea(FOE) has gastroprotective properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the gastroprotective activity of FOE on water immersion restrained stress(WIRS)-induced gastric muco.al injury in a rat model and elucidate the possible molecular mechanisms involved.Methods: A rat stress ulcer model was established in this study using WIRS. After rats were treated with FOE orally for 7 d, the effect of FOE treatment was analyzed by hematoxylin and eosin(H&E) staining, and the changes of inflammatory factors, oxidative stress factors, and gastric-specific regulatory factors and pepsin in the blood and gastric tissues of rats were examined by ELISA assay. Molecular mechanism of FOE was investigated by immunohistochemical assay and Western blot.Results: co.pared with the WIRS group, FOE co.ld diminish both the macrosco.ic and microsco.ic pathological morphology of gastric muco.a. FOE significantly preserved the antioxidants glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX), superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) co.tents;anti-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-10(IL-10) and prostaglandin E2(PGE2) levels as well as regulatory factors tumor necrosis factor-a(TGF-a) and somatostatin(SS) co.tents, while decreasing malondialdehyde(MDA), nitric oxide synthase(i NOS), tumor necrosis factor(TNF-a), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), interleukin-6(IL-6), gastrin(GAS)and endothelin(ET) levels. Moreover, FOE distinctly upregulated the expression of Nrf2, HO-1, Bcl2 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA). In addition, FOE activated the expression of p-EGFR and downregulated the expression of NF-ΚB, Bax, Cleaved-caspase-3, Cyto-C and Cleaved-PARP1, thus promoting gastric muco.al cell survival.co.clusion: The current work demonstrated that FOE exerted a gastroprotective activity against gastric muco.al injury induced by WIRS. Cymbopogon citratus in the gramineous family,also known as lemongrass(LG),is a perennial herb.LG,a drug and food homologous medicine,has a widely reco.ded medicinal value and food applications.To date,158 LG co.pounds have been reported,including terpenoids,flavonoids,phenolic acids.Pharmaco.ogical and clinical studies have indicated that LG has antibacterial,neuroprotective,hypoglycemic,hypotensive,anti-inflammatory,and anti-tumor effects.This article reviews LG in ethnopharmaco.ogy,chemical co.position,pharmaco.ogy,food,medicine,and daily chemical applications to provide a basis for the subsequent development of food and medicine.

Raspberries are used for both food and medicine,but it has not yet attracted widespread attention.In this paper,the chemical co.stituen of the original plant raspberry.R.chingii is one of the new "Zhe Bawei" medicinal materials selected in 2017. "Zhe Bawei" refers to eight kinds of genuine medicinal materials in Zhejiang Province.The chemical co.stituents,pharmaco.ogical effects,processing,and application of Rubus chingii Hu were reviewed to provide a reference for its further development.Relevant literature in recent years was co.lected in databases such as China Knowledge Network,Web of Science,Elsevier,PubMed,and X-Mol,using "raspberry", "Rubus chingii", "traditional use", "chemical co.position", "pharmaco.ogy",etc.as keywords individually or in co.bination.The summary of pharmaco.ogical activities shows that the relationship between the pharmaco.ogical activities of raspberry is still not deep enough.More in-depth research should be carried out in this direction to explore the mechanism of action of its active ingredients and provide effective reference for the further development of the raspberry industry.In the future,with the participation of more researchers,it is expected to develop innovative drugs based on raspberry for the treatment of diseases.

The genus Hippocampus is a multi-origin animal species with high medicinal and healthcare values.About 57 species of Hippocampus spread worldwide,of which about 14 species can be used as medicine,showing anti-oxidation,anti-inflammation,anti-depressant,anti-hypertension,anti-prostatic hyperplasia,antivirus,anti-apoptotic,antifatigue,and so on.And those pharmaco.ogical effects are mainly related to their active ingredients,including amino acids,abundant proteins(peptides and oligopeptides),fatty acids,nucleosides,steroids,and other small molecular co.pounds.The main means of authentication of Hippocampus species are morphological identification,microsco.ic identification,thin layer chromatography method,fingerprint method and genomics method.This review will provide useful insight for exploration,further study and precise medication of Hippocampus in the future.

co.stipation is co.mon in the diseases of the digestive system in clinics.With the change in diet structure and the increase in life pressure,the prevalence rate increases year by year.In traditional chinese medicine(TCM),the location of the disease of co.stipation is in the large intestine,which is related to the dysfunction of lung,spleen,liver,kidney and other viscera.Its pathogenesis is co.ductive dysfunction of large intestine.Based on the theory,Shouhui Tongbian Capsule(SHTB)is co.posed of eight traditional chinese medicines,including Polygoni multiflori Radix(Heshouwu in chinese),Aloe(Luhui in chinese),Cassiae Semen(Juemingzi in chinese),Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma(Renshen in chinese),Lycii Fructus(Gouqizi in chinese),Asini co.ii co.la(Ejiao in chinese),Aurantii Fructus Immaturus(Zhishi in chinese),and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma(Baizhu in chinese),which co.ld help to release excessive turbid,and nourishing yin and supplementing qi in the treatment.This study has been carried out to review the latest advances of SHTB in the treatment of co.stipation.The results showed that significant effect of SHTB was found in the treatment of co.stipation,such as functional co.stipation,and co.stipation associated with tumor chemotherapy,co.itis,type 2 diabetes and chronic cardiac failure.Besides,obvious adverse reactions were not observed.SHTB co.ld effectively treat five types of co.stipation,provide direction for the future exploration of SHTB in the treatment of other types of co.stipation。

Spinal co.d injury is a serious disease of the central nervous system involving irreversible nerve injury and various organ system injuries.At present,no effective clinical treatment exists.As one of the artificial hibernation techniques,mild hypothermia has preliminarily co.firmed its clinical effect on spinal co.d injury.However,its technical defects and barriers,along with serious clinical side effects,restrict its clinical application for spinal co.d injury.Artificial hibernation is a futureoriented disruptive technology for human life support.It involves endogenous hibernation inducers and hibernation-related central neuromodulation that activate particular neurons,reduce the central co.stant temperature setting point,disrupt the normal co.stant body temperature,make the body adapt"to the external co.d environment,and reduce the physiological resistance to co.d stimulation.Thus,studying the artificial hibernation mechanism may help develop new treatment strategies more suitable for clinical use than the co.ling method of mild hypothermia technology.This review introduces artificial hibernation technologies,including mild hypothermia technology,hibernation inducers,and hibernation-related central neuromodulation technology.It summarizes the relevant research on hypothermia and hibernation for organ and nerve protection.These studies show that artificial hibernation technologies have therapeutic significance on nerve injury after spinal co.rd injury through inflammatory inhibition,immunosuppression,oxidative defense,and possible central protection.It also promotes the repair and protection of res pirato ry and digestive,cardiovascular,loco.oto r,urinary,and endocrine systems.This review provides new insights for the clinical treatment of nerve and multiple organ protection after spinal co.d injury thanks to artificial hibernation.At present,artificial hibernation technology is not mature,and research fa ces various challenges.Neve rtheless,the effort is wo rthwhile for the future development of medicine.

Thromboangiitis obliterans(TAO)is a rare,chronic,progressive,and segmental inflammatory disease characterized by a high rate of amputation,significantly co.promising the quality of life of patients.Si-Miao-Yong-An deco.tion(SMYA),a tradition-al prescription,exhibits anti-inflammatory,anti-thrombotic,and various other pharmaco.ogical properties.Clinically,it was fully proved to be effective for TAO therapy,but the specific therapeutic effect of SMYA on TAO has been unknown.Thus,deep unveiling the mechanism of SMYA in TAO for identifying clinical therapeutic targets is extremely important.In this study,we observed elev-ated levels of IL-17A in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)of TAO patients,whereas the expression of miR-548j-5p was significantly decreased.A negative co.relation between the levels of miR-548j-5p and IL-17A was also demonstrated.In vitro ex-periments showed that overexpression of miR-548j-5p led to a decrease in IL-17A levels,whereas downregulation of miR-548j-5p showed the opposite effect.Using a dual luciferase assay,we co.firmed that miR-548j-5p directly targets IL-17A.Furthermore,serum co.taining SMYA effectively decreased IL-17A levels by increasing the expression of miR-548j-5p.More importantly,the results of in vivo tests indicated that SMYA mitigated the development of TAO by inhibiting IL-17A through the upregulation of miR-548j-5p in vascular tissues.In co.clusion,SMYA significantly enhances the expression of miR-548j-5p,thereby reducing the levels of the target gene IL-17A and alleviating TAO.Our research not only identifies novel targets and pathways for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of TAO but also advances the innovation in traditional chinese medicine through the elucidation of the SMYA/miR-548j-5p/IL-17A regulatory axis in the pathogenesis of TAO.

Patients with refractory immune thrombocytopenia(ITP)frequently enco.nter substantial bleeding risks and demonstrate limited responsiveness to existing therapies.Umbilical co.d-derived mesenchymal stem cells(UC-MSCs)present a promising alternative,capitalizing on their low immunogenicity and potent immunomodulatory effects for treating diverse autoimmune disorders.This prospective phase I trial enrolled eighteen eligible patients to explore the safety and efficacy of UC-MSCs in treating refractory ITP.The research design included administering UC-MSCs at escalating doses of 0.5×10^(6)cells/kg,1.0×10^(6)cells/kg,and 2.0×10^(6)cells/kg weekly for four co.secutive weeks across three co.orts during the dose-escalation phase,followed by a dose of 2.0×10^(6)cells/kg weekly for the dose-expansion phase.Adverse events,platelet co.nts,and changes in peripheral blood immunity were monitored and reco.ded throughout the administration and follow-up period.Ultimately,12(with an addition of three patients in the 2.0×10^(6)cells/kg group due to dose-limiting toxicity)and six patients were enrolled in the dose-escalation and dose-expansion phase,respectively.Thirteen patients(13/18,72.2%)experienced one or more treatment emergent adverse events.Serious adverse events occurred in four patients(4/18,22.2%),including gastrointestinal hemorrhage(2/4),profuse menstruation(1/4),and acute myocardial infarction(1/4).The response rates were 41.7%in the dose-escalation phase(5/12,two received 1.0×10^(6)cells/kg per week,and three received 2.0×10^(6)cells/kg per week)and 50.0%(3/6)in the dose-expansion phase.The overall response rate was 44.4%(8/18)among all enrolled patients.To sum up,UC-MSCs are effective and well tolerated in treating refractory ITP(ClinicalTrials.gov ID:NCT04014166).

The genus Rosa(Rosaceae family)includes about 200 species spread in the world,and this genus shows unique advantages in medicine and food.To date,several scholars co.centrated on co.pounds belonging to flavonoids,triterpenes,tannins,polysaccharide,phenolic acids,fatty acids,organic acids,carotenoids,and vitamins.Pharmaco.ogical effects such as antineoplastic and anti-cancer properties,antiinflammatory,antioxidant,liver protection,regulate blood sugar,antimicrobial activity,antiviral activity,as well as nervous system protection and cardiovascular protection were wildly reported.This article reviews the chemical co.stituents,pharmaco.ogical effects,applications and safety evaluations of Rosa plants,which provides a reference for the co.prehensive utilization of medicine and food resources and gives a scientific basis for the development of medicinal plants of the genus Rosa.
