modern scleractinian corals are classified into robust,complex,and basal clades through comparative molecular ***,only few morphological or biological criteria can systematically determine the evolutionary trajectories of these major scleractinian coral ***,we obtained the structural information of 21 scleractinian coral species representing robust and complex clades:high-resolution micro-computed tomography was used to reconstruct the polyp-canal systems in their colonies and to visualize the dynamic polyp growth *** found that the emergence of mesh-like canals may distinguish representatives of complex and robust *** differences in polyp-canal connections suggest distinct evolutionary trajectories among coral species:The formation of the canal network promoted the development of more complex coral structures,and coral polyps within this network formed calices of very similar volume,following precise axial growth *** influence of individual polyps on the coral colony becomes less significant as coral structures become more complex,and coral species with more complicated polyp-canal systems occupied niches more *** work supplements current evolutionary studies on reef-building corals,providing insight for further studies on coral growth patterns.

[Objectives]To optimize the formulation and preparation of oregano oil microspheres by Box-Behnken response surface methodology.[Methods]Chitosan was used as the carrier material to prepare oregano oil microspheres by emulsion crosslinking *** encapsulation efficiency,drug loading and ID 50 were used as the evaluation indicators,and the comprehensive score(OD)obtained by"coefficient of variation-AHP comprehensive weighting method"was used as the final evaluation *** formulation design and preparation process were optimized by single factor experiment and Box-Behnken response surface methodology,and the optimal process parameters were determined.[Results]The optimal formulation and preparation process parameters of oregano oil microspheres were as follows:the ratio of oregano oil to chitosan was 2∶1,the emulsifying speed of double emulsion was 200 r/min,the amount of emulsifier in the colostrum was 4%,and the volume of curing agent was 1.0 *** average encapsulation efficiency was 45.33%±1.32%,the average drug loading was 30.59%±2.45%,and the median diameter(ID 50)was 52.596μm±0.023%.[Conclusions]The encapsulation efficiency,drug loading and ID 50 of oregano oil chitosan microspheres prepared by emulsion crosslinking method met the *** drug-loaded microsphere not only can be used as a preparation finished product for direct application,but also be used as a product intermediate to lay a foundation for the research and development of subsequent dosage forms.

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate experimentally and numerically a hierarchical timedelay optical reservoir computing(RC) system based on cascaded vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers(VCSELs) with feedback and multiple injections. The prediction performance characteristics of the hierarchical time-delay RC system based on cascaded VCSELs under different reservoir layers are ***, the prediction performance of the hierarchical time-delay RC system is first improved and saturates as the number of reservoir layers increases. Besides, the impacts of key factors on predicting the hierarchical time-delay RC system are also analyzed in detail experimentally and numerically. This proposed hierarchical time-delay RC system based on VCSELs is useful for the further development of RC systems and may be beneficial to improve the ability of RC systems to solve more complex problems.

Dietary fat content can reduce the methane production of dairy cows; however, the relevance fatty acid (FA) composition has towards this inhibitory effect is debatable. Furthermore, in-depth studies elucidating the effects of unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) on rumen function and the mechanism of reducing methane (CH4) production are lacking. This study exposed 10 Holstein cows with the same parity, similar milk yield to two total mixed rations: low unsaturated FA (LUFA) and high unsaturated FA (HUFA) with similar fat content. The LUFA group mainly added fat powder (C16:0 > 90%), and the HUFA group mainly replaced fat powder with extruded flaxseed. The experiment lasted 26 d, the last 5 d of which, gas exchange in respiratory chambers was conducted to measure gas emissions. We found that an increase in the UFA in diet did not affect milk production (P > 0.05) and could align the profile of milk FAs more closely with modern human nutritional requirements. Furthermore, we found that increasing the UFA content in the diet lead to a decrease in the abundance of Methanobrevibacter in the rumen (|linear discriminant analysis [LDA] score| > 2 and P 2 and P < 0.05), which ultimately decreased CH4 production (P < 0.05). Our results illustrated the mechanism involving decreased CH4 production when fed a UFA diet in dairy cows. We believe that our study provides new evidence to explore CH4 emission reduction measures for dairy cows. (c) 2024 The Authors. Objective:To evaluate whether skin tests are suitable to predict the allergy reactions induced by Chinese herbal injections(CHIs).Methods:The skin tests including skin prick tests(SPT),intradermal tests(IDT)and provocation tests including subcutaneous tests and intravenous tests were administered to 249 healthy subjects and 180 allergic patients for 3 CHIs,including ginkgolide injection,diterpene ginkgolide meglumine injection and Salvianolate lyophilized *** results of the provocation tests were used as the"gold standard"to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the skin ***:The results did not show any significant differences between the healthy and allergy groups in both skin tests and provocation tests(P>0.05).The specificities of SPT and IDT were 0.976 and 0.797,respectively,and the sensitivities of both SPT and IDT were ***:Skin tests are insufficient to predict the likelihood of allergic reactions resulting from CHIs.(ChiCTR-CPC-15006921)

Crocus sativus (saffron) is a globally autumn-flowering plant, and its stigmas are the most expensive spice and valuable herb medicine. Crocus specialized metabolites, crocins, are biosynthesized in distant species, Gardenia (eudicot) and Crocus (monocot), and the evolution of crocin biosynthesis remains poorly understood. With the chromosome-level Crocus genome assembly, we revealed that two rounds of lineage-specific whole genome triplication occurred, contributing important roles in the production of carotenoids and apocarotenoids. According to the kingdom-wide identification, phylogenetic analysis, and functional assays of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs), we deduced that the duplication, site positive selection, and neofunctionalization of Crocus-specific CCD2 from CCD1 members are responsible for the crocin biosynthesis. In addition, site mutation of CsCCD2 revealed the key amino acids, including I143, L146, R161, E181, T259, and S292 related to the catalytic activity of zeaxanthin cleavage. Our study provides important insights into the origin and evolution of plant specialized metabolites, which are derived by duplication events of biosynthetic genes.
