Bear bile has been a valuable and effective medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)for over 13 ***,the current practice of obtaining it through bear farming is under scrutiny for its adverse impact on bear ***,we present a new approach for creating artificial bear bile(ABB)as a high-quality and sustainable alternative to natural bear *** study addresses the scientific challenges of creating bear bile alternatives through interdisciplinary collaborations across various fields,including resources,chemistry,biology,medicine,pharmacology,and TCM.A comprehensive efficacy assessment system that bridges the gap between TCM and modern medical terminology has been established,allowing for the systematic screening of therapeutic *** the utilization of chemical synthesis and enzyme engineering technologies,our research has achieved the environmentally friendly,large-scale production of bear bile therapeutic compounds,as well as the optimization and recomposition of ABB *** resulting ABB not only closely resembles natural bear bile in its composition but also offers advantages such as consistent product quality,availability of raw materials,and independence from threatened or wild *** preclinical efficacy evaluations have demonstrated the equivalence of the therapeutic effects from ABB and those from commercially available drained bear bile(DBB).Furthermore,preclinical toxicological assessment and phase I clinical trials show that the safety of ABB is on par with that of the currently used *** innovative strategy can serve as a new research paradigm for developing alternatives for other endangered TCMs,thereby strengthening the integrity and sustainability of TCM.

Genetic susceptibility to metabolic associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is complex and poorly *** characterization of the genetic background of hepatic fat content would provide insights into disease etiology and causality of risk *** performed genome-wide association study(GWAS)on two noninvasive definitions of hepatic fat content:magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction(MRI-PDFF)in 16,050 participants and fatty liver index(FLI)in 388,701 participants from the United Kingdom(UK)Biobank(UKBB).Heritability,genetic overlap,and similarity between hepatic fat content phenotypes were analyzed,and replicated in 10,398 participants from the university medical Center Groningen(UMCG)Genetics Lifelines Initiative(UGLI).Meta-analysis of GWASs of MRI-PDFF in UKBB revealed five statistically significant loci,including two novel genomic loci harboring CREB3L1(rs72910057-T,P=5.40E−09)and GCM1(rs1491489378-T,P=3.16E−09),respectively,as well as three previously reported loci:PNPLA3,TM6SF2,and *** of FLI in UKBB identified 196 genome-wide significant loci,of which 49 were replicated in UGLI,with top signals in ZPR1(P=3.35E−13)and FTO(P=2.11E−09).Statistically significant genetic correlation(rg)between MRI-PDFF(UKBB)and FLI(UGLI)GWAS results was found(rg=0.5276,P=1.45E−03).Novel MRI-PDFF genetic signals(CREB3L1 and GCM1)were replicated in the FLI *** identified two novel genes for MRI-PDFF and 49 replicable loci for *** a difference in hepatic fat content assessment between MRI-PDFF and FLI,a substantial similar genetic architecture was *** is identified as an easy and reliable approach to study hepatic fat content at the population level.

The incidence rate and histological characteristics of intimal hyperplasia in elastase-induced experimental abdominal aortic aneurysms in mice

Intimal hyperplasia(IH)is a negative vascular remodeling after arterial *** occasionally occurs in elastase-induced abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)mouse *** study aims to clarify the incidence and histological characteristics of IH in aneurysmal mice.A retrospective study was conducted by including 42 male elastaseinduced mouse AAA *** IH incidence,aortic diameters with or without IH,and hyperplasia lesional features of mice were *** 42 elastase-induced AAA mouse models,10 mice developed mild IH(24%)and severe IH was found in only 2 mice(5%).The outer diameters of the AAA segments in mice with and without IH did not show significant *** mild and severe IH lesions show strong smooth muscle cell positive staining,but endothelial cells were occasionally observed in severe IH *** was obvious macrophage infiltration in the IH lesions of the AAA mouse models,especially in mice with severe ***,only a lower numbers of T cells and B cells were found in the IH *** cell-secreted matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)2 was highly expressed in all IH lesions,but MMP9 was only overexpressed in severe *** conclusion,this study is the first to demonstrate the occurrence of aneurysmal IH and its histological characteristics in an elastaseinduced mouse AAA *** will help researchers better understand this model,and optimize it for use in AAA-related research.

Comparison of ocular biometric parameters between two swept-source optical coherence tomography devices and Scheimpflug tomography in patients with cataract
