AIM:To assess the changes in the peripapillary vasculature and macular thickness after cataract surgery using two phacoemulsification systems with optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA).METHODS:Fifty-two eyes of 52 patients with agerelated cataract were randomized into two groups for phacoemulsification:Infiniti group(26 patients)using the Infiniti phacoemulsification system with gravity-fluidics and Centurion group(26 patients)using the Centurion phacoemulsification system with *** peripapillary vessel density(PVD)and macular thickness were examined using OCTA at baseline and at 1d,1 and 3mo after cataract ***:In the Infiniti group,the PVD was significantly reduced at 1d after the cataract surgery(P0.05).In the Centurion group,the VD and thickness in the optic papilla and macula did not significantly change in all regions during the follow-up(all P>0.05).The best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA)significantly improved in both groups postoperatively(P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Using the Infiniti phacoemulsification system,OCTA provides a promising analysis of retinal vascular alterations,demonstrating a reduction of the PVD and an increase in the macular *** Centurion phacoemulsification system can provide better retinal vasculature preservation during cataract surgery.

AIM：To test the therapeutic effects of delayed treatment of mesenchymal stem cells（MSCs） in recurrent experimental autoimmune uveitis（r EAU）.METHODS： The efficacy of different regimens of MSC administration in r EAU were tested by evaluation of clinical and pathological intraocular inflammation,as well as retinal structural and functional integrity using optical coherence tomography（OCT） and electroretinogram（ERG）.The retinal sections were also immunostained with antibodies to glial fibrillary acidic protein（GFAP）and rhodopsin（RHO）. RESULTS： Delayed treatment of MSCs effectively alleviated the severity of intraocular inflammation with relative intact of outer retinal structure and ***,double therapies with longer interval led to an even better clinical evaluation,as well as a trend of decrease in relapse and amelioration of retinal *** therapies also effectively reduced GFAP expression and increased RHO expression in the ***： MSC administration can effectively treat developed diseases of rEAU,and multiple therapies can provide additional therapeutic benefits.

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) have attracted considerable attention for their activity in the treatment of refractory visual disorders. Since MSCs were found to possess the beneficial effects by secreting paracrine factors rather than direct differentiation, MSC-derived extracellular vesicles(EVs) were widely studied in various disease models. MSCs generate abundant EVs, which act as important mediators by exchanging protein and genetic information between MSCs and target cells. It has been confirmed that MSC-derived EVs possess unique antiinflammatory, anti-apoptotic, tissue repairing, neuroprotective, and immunomodulatory properties, similar to their parent cells. Upon intravitreal injection, MSC-derived EVs rapidly diffuse through the retina to alleviate retinal injury or inflammation. Due to possible risks associated with MSC transplantation, such as vitreous opacity and pathological proliferation, EVs appear to be a better choice for intravitreal injection. Small size EVs can pass through biological barriers easily and their contents can be modified genetically for optimal therapeutic effect. Hence, currently, they are also explored for the possibility of serving as drug delivery vehicles. In the current review, we describe the characteristics of MSC-derived EVs briefly, comprehensively summarize their biological functions in ocular diseases, and discuss their potential applications in clinical settings.

AIM: To study the potential reasons of increased straylight in pseudophakic eyes. METHODS: Cross -sectional study. Seventy patients diagnosed as bilateral age-related cataract and implanted with Tecnis ZA9003, Sensar AR40e, SA6OAT, XLSTABI ZO or Akeros AO intraocular lens (IOL) were enrolled in this research. Straylight was measured by a C -Quant straylight meter three to four weeks postoperatively. Five different modalities of IOL, including spherical/aspherical optics and hydrophobic/hydrophilic material were tested in this study. Normal as well as dilated pupils were used. The main outcome variable for straylight measurement was the logarithmic straylight parameter, log(s). RESULTS: The straylight parameter increased significantly after pupil dilation (Peyes. Further investigation was needed to study the impact of optic material and optic surface design on pseudophakic straylight.

Objective To determine the prevalence of ocular trauma and the proportion of blindness and visua impairment due to trauma in a rural population in northern China. Methods The Handan eye Study is a population-based cross-sectional study that surveyed 6830 Chinese people aged 30＋ years from 13 randomly selected villages in Yongnian County, city of Handan, Hebei Province, in July, 2006. All participants underwent a standardized interview and extensive examinations. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information on ocular trauma. Results Of the 5837 participants who filled out the questionnaire, 124 subjects [2.1%; 95% confidence interval （CI）, 1.8%-2.5%] reported a history of ocular trauma in either eye, including 19 （0.3%） persons reporting trauma in both eyes. Men were more likely to have an eye injury than women [odds ratio （OR）, 3.3; 2.2-4.9]. In multiple logistic regression models, ocular trauma was significantly more frequent among normotensive participants when compared with hypertensive participants （hypertensive vs. normotensive＂ OR, 0.6; 0.4-0.9） and among participants who had a history of falls （OR, 2.4; 1.2-4.8）. The proportion of unilateral visual impairment and unilateral blindness due to trauma were 10.5% （13 subjects） and 21.0% （26 subjects）, respectively. Conclusion Our study reports the prevalence of severe ocular trauma among adults in rural China, revealing a high proportion of blindness and visual impairment due to trauma. These findings suggest the need for educational strategies to increase eye health awareness in this rural population with focus on providing at least appropriate first aid care to reduce blindness due to trauma.

AIM: To investigate the regulatory roles of the members of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor(PPAR)family in lacrimal gland dysfunction under conditions of desiccating stress or ***: Quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) was used to examine the expression of PPARs in the cornea, conjunctiva, meibomian gland, and lacrimal gland in adult rats. The rats were divided into 3 groups:a control group, dry eye group, and diabetic group. The phenol red threads test, tear film break-up time(BUT) test and fluorescein staining were carried out to evaluate the development of dry eye. Based on bioinformatics research,qP CR was used to examine the expression level of PPARγ,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-6(IL-6), sirtuin 1(Sirt1), myeloid differentiation factor 88(MyD88) and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)in the lacrimal ***: PPARα and PPARβ/δ were mainly expressed in the conjunctiva and the lacrimal gland, ***, PPARγ was expressed in both the conjunctiva and lacrimal gland, at much higher levels than those measured for PPARα and PPARβ/δ. Dry eye rats and diabetic rats both showed decreased tear secretion, shortened BUT,and increased corneal staining. Significant changes in gene expression were observed compared with the control group. In the lacrimal glands of dry eye rats and diabetic rats, expression of PPARγ decreased(Peye diseases.
