Left lower lobe sleeve resection for the clear cell variant of pulmonary mucoepidermoid carcinoma:A case report

BACKGROUND Pulmonary mucoepidermoid carcinoma(PMEC)is a rare malignancy that arises from minor salivary glands within the tracheobronchial *** clear cell variant of PMEC is exceptionally uncommon and presents notable diagnostic challenges,primarily attributable to its morphological similarity to other tumors containing clear *** SUMMARY A 22-year-old male,formerly in good health,came in with a two-month duration of persistent cough and production of *** imaging and bronchoscopy examinations revealed a 2 cm tumor in the distal left main bronchus,which resulted in complete atelectasis of the left *** assessment via positron emission tomography/computed tomography scans and endoscopic biopsy confirmed the primary malignant nature of the tumor,charac-terized by clear cell morphology in most of the tumor *** patient underwent a left lower lobe sleeve resection accompanied by systematic mediastinal lymph node *** pathology analysis subsequently revealed a CRTC3-MAML2 gene fusion,leading to a definitive pathological diagnosis of the clear cell variant of PMEC,staged as *** surgery,the patient experienced a smooth recovery and exhibited no signs of recurrence during the one-and-a-half-year follow-up *** This article describes an unusual case of a clear cell variant of PMEC characterized by the presence of a CRTC3-MAML2 gene fusion in a 22-year-old *** patient underwent successful left lower lobe sleeve *** case underscores the distinctive challenges associated with diagnosing and treating this uncommon malignancy,underscoring the importance of precise diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies.

Maternal serum level of resistin is associated with risk for gestational diabetes mellitus:A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Resistin is most likely involved in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM), but the existing findings are *** To review the literature investigating the associations of the risk of GDM with serum level of *** A systematic literature search was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science(all databases). This meta-analysis included eligible studies that:(1) investigated the relationship between the risk of GDM and serum resistin;(2)included GDM cases and controls without GDM;(3) diagnosed GDM according to the oral glucose-tolerance test;(4) were performed in humans;(5) were published as full text articles in English; and(6) provided data with median and quartile range, median and minimum and maximum values, or mean and standard deviation. The pooled standardized mean difference(SMD) and 95%confidence interval(CI) were calculated to estimate the association between the risk of GDM and serum resistin. To analyze the potential influences of need for insulin in GDM patients and gestational age at blood sampling, we performed a subgroup analysis. Meta-regression with restricted maximum likelihood estimation was performed to assess the potentially important covariate exerting substantial impact on between-study *** The meta-analysis for the association between serum resistin level and GDM risk included 18 studies(22 comparisons) with 1041 cases and 1292 controls. The total results showed that the risk of GDM was associated with higher serum resistin level(SMD = 0.250, 95%CI: 0.116, 0.384). Unintended targeting of Dmp1-Cre reveals a critical role for Bmpr1a signaling in the gastrointestinal mesenchyme of adult mice

Cre/loxP technology has been widely used to study cell type-specific functions of genes. Proper interpretation of such data critically depends on a clear understanding of the tissue specificity of Cre expression. The Dmpl- Cre mouse, expressing Cre from a 14-kb DNA fragment of the mouse Dmpl gene, has become a common tool for studying gene function in osteocytes, but the presumed cell specificity is yet to be fully established. By using the Ai9 reporter line that expresses a red fluorescent protein upon Cre recombination, we find that in 2-month-old mice, Dmpl-Cre targets not only osteocytes within the bone matrix but also osteoblasts on the bone surface and preosteoblasts at the metaphyseal chondro-osseous junction. In the bone marrow, Cre activity is evident in certain stromal cells adjacent to the blood vessels, but not in adipocytes. Outside the skeleton, Dmpl-Cre marks not only the skeletal muscle fibers, certain cells in the cerebellum and the hindbrain but also gastric and intestinal mesenchymal cells that express Pdgfra. Confirming the utility of Dmpl-Cre in the gastrointestinal mesenchyme, deletion of Bmprla with Dmpl-Cre causes numerous large polyps along the gastrointestinal tract, consistent with prior work involving inhibition of BMP signaling. Thus, caution needs to be exercised when using Dmpl-Cre because it targets not only the osteoblast lineage at an earlier stage than previously appreciated, but also a number of non-skeletal cell types.

Osteoporosis is a frequent complication of chronic inflammatory diseases and increases in the pro-inflammatory cytokines make an important contribution to bone loss by promoting bone resorption and impairing bone formation. Omentin-1 is a newly identified adipocytokine that has anti-inflammatory effects, but little is known about the role of omentin-1 in inflammatory osteoporosis. Here we generated global omentin-1 knockout（omentin-1^-/-） mice and demonstrated that depletion of omentin-1 induces inflammatory bone loss-like phenotypes in mice, as defined by abnormally elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines, increased osteoclast formation and bone tissue destruction, as well as impaired osteogenic activities. Using an inflammatory cell model induced by tumor necrosis factor-α（TNF-α）, we determined that recombinant omentin-1 reduces the production of proinflammatory factors in the TNF-α-activated macrophages, and suppresses their anti-osteoblastic and pro-osteoclastic abilities. In the magnesium silicate-induced inflammatory osteoporosis mouse model, the systemic administration of adenoviral-delivered omentin-1 significantly protects from osteoporotic bone loss and inflammation. Our study suggests that omentin-1 can be used as a promising therapeutic agent for the prevention or treatment of inflammatory bone diseases by downregulating the proinflammatory cytokines.

Plasma levels of omentin-1 and visfatin in senile patients with coronary heart disease and heart failure

Objective:To investigate the alteration of plasma levels of omentin-1 and visfatin in elderly patients with coronary heart disease(CHD)and heart ***:Plasma omentin-1 and visfatin levels were measured in 90 subjects(29 stable angina pectoris(SAP)cases,30 unstable angina pectoris(UAP)cases and 31 age-and sex-matched healthy controls(age≥60 years)by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay *** to the New York Heart Association classification.59 CHDs were divided into three groups:functional I class,11 cases;functional II/III class,36 cases;and functional IV class,12 ***:The plasma level of omentin-1in CHO patients was significantly lower than thai of the control ***-lin SAP group and UAP group were significantly lower compared to the control group(there was no statistical significance between UAP group and SAP group;P>0.05).The plasma level of visfatin in CHD patients was significandy higher than that of the control ***,visfatin in SAP group and UAP group were all significantly higher compared to the control group,while there was no statistical significance between UAP group,and SAP *** plasma omentin-1 level was negatively correlated with SBP(r=-0.264,P<0.05),positively correlated with HDL-c level(r=0.271,P<0.05);the plasma visfatin level was positively correlated with TC(r=0.292,P<0.05),negatively correlated with HDL-c level(r=-0.266,P<0.05).There was a negative correlation between plasma omentin-1 and visfatin levels(r=-0.280,P<0.05).Moreover,multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that omentin-1 and visfatin levels might be affected by HDL-c *** regression analysis showed that visfatin could be an independent risk factor of ***:Decreased levels of omentin-1 and increased levels of visfatin may be involved in the occurrence and development of ***-1 and visfatin,independently,may be protective and pro-inflammatory ***,both omentin-1 and visfatin may

Tactfully revealing the working mechanisms on a tetraarylimidazole derivative:AIE characteristic,ESIPT process and ICT effect integrating in one molecule

Recently,a novel tetraarylimidazole derivative 2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-4-(4,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-phenol(be called MHBT herein)was architectured by our research group showing the fascinating synergy of aggregation-induced emission(AIE)characteristic,excited-state intramolecular proton transfer(ESIPT)mechanism and intramolecular charge transfer(ICT)***,a detailed and reasonable interpretation of its mechanisms both in theory is urgently ***,to unveil the working mechanism meticulously,herein,we tactfully applied density functional theory(DFT)and time-dependent density functional theory(TD-DFT)methods to illuminate the underlying mechanisms in different solvent *** optimizing the structures,the geometric parameters of hydrogen bonds(HBs),the infrared(IR)vibrational spectrum,the reduced density gradient(RDG)isosurfaces were calculated in detail,vividly explaining how the enhancement of HBs behaved as the driving force to proceed ESIPT ***,the frontier molecular orbitals(FMOs)combined with the potential energy curves(PECs)were conducted to interpretate the role and character of ICT and ESIPT in molecule ***,the PECs of MHBT for dihedral angles in different organic solvents were calculated to compare the dominant torsion degree,rationalizing the AIE phenomenon from the view of the restriction of intramolecular rotation *** work may well underpin the understanding of the interaction between different mechanisms in fluorescent dyes and thereby provide meaningful guideline for the design and construction of ideal molecules.

Two years after the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children(AHUCD)began to be reported *** novel coronavirus and adenovirus were found in pathogen and antibody tests in AHUCD cases reported by the World Health *** are not exposed to the viruses that children are generally exposed to owing to COVID-19 infection preventive measures such as isolation and wearing masks;therefore,some researchers have speculated that this disease is related to reduced exposure to *** scientists have also speculated that the disease is related to liver injury and adenoviral hepatitis,which are the sequelae of *** evidence also suggests a weak association between the disease and COVID-19 ***,further research and investigation of the pathogenesis,preventive measures,and early treatment of hepatitis of unknown etiology are *** study aimed to synthesize available evidence to further elucidate this disease in order to treat and prevent it effectively.

Genetic and Epigenetic Alterations of DLC-1,a Candidate Tumor Suppressor Gene,in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

The DLC-1 gene,located at the human chromosome region 8p22,behaves like a tumorsuppressor gene and is frequently deleted in diverse *** deletion of 8p22 is not an uncommon eventin nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),therefore we explored the expression levels of the DLC-1 gene in NPCsand NPC cell lines by reverse transcription-polymerase chain *** results showed the mRNA levelof DLC-1 was *** identify the mechanism of DLC-1 downregulation in NPC,we investigatedthe methylation status of the DLC-1 gene using methylation-specific PCR,and found that 79%(31 of 39)ofthe NPC tissues and two DLC-1 nonexpressing NPC cell lines,6-10B and 5-8F,were methylated in theDLC-1 CpG *** PCR was also carried out,and loss of heterozygosity was found at fourmicrosatellite sites(D8S552,D8S 1754,D8S 1790 and D8S549)covering the whole DLC-1 gene with ratiosof 33%(4 of 12 informative cases),18%(2 of 11),5%(1 of 18),and 25%(3 of 12),***,our results suggest that DLC-1 might be an NPC-related tumor suppressor gene affected by aberrantpromoter methylation and gene deletion.
