Perfluoropentane-based oxygen-loaded nanodroplets reduce microglial activation through metabolic reprogramming

Microglia,the primary immune cells within the brain,have gained recognition as a promising therapeutic target for managing neurodegenerative diseases within the central nervous system,including Parkinson’s *** perfluorocarbon droplets have been reported to not only possess a high oxygen-carrying capacity,but also exhibit remarkable anti-inflammatory ***,the role of perfluoropentane in microglia-mediated central inflammatory reactions remains poorly *** this study,we developed perfluoropentane-based oxygen-loaded nanodroplets(PFP-OLNDs)and found that pretreatment with these droplets suppressed the lipopolysaccharide-induced activation of M1-type microglia in vitro and in vivo,and suppressed microglial activation in a mouse model of Parkinson’s *** suppression led to a reduction in the inflammatory response,oxidative stress,and cell migration capacity in ***,the neurotoxic effects were mitigated,which alleviated neuronal ***,ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry showed that the anti-inflammatory effects of PFP-OLNDs mainly resulted from the modulation of microglial metabolic *** further showed that PFP-OLNDs regulated microglial metabolic reprogramming through the AKT-mTOR-HIF-1α***,our findings suggest that the novel PFP-OLNDs constructed in this study alleviate microglia-mediated central inflammatory reactions through metabolic reprogramming.

Effects of the Intelligent-Turtle Massage on the Physical Symptoms and Immune Functions in Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Objective: To evaluate the effects of the intelligent-turtle massage on the physical symptoms and immune functions in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Methods: 182 cases of CFS were randomly divided into an experimental group of 91 cases treated by the intelligent-turtle massage, and a control group of 91 cases treated with the conventional massage method. After 2 courses of treatment, the therapeutic effects were statistically analyzed with the accumulated score for the improved clinical symptoms; and the changes of IgA, IgM and IgG were compared in 96 cases. Results: There was a significant difference between the two groups in the accumulated scores for improvement of the symptoms (P<0.05). A remarkable difference was found in the therapeutic effect. And there was a significant difference in the IgA, IgM and IgG levels between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: The intelligent-turtle massage is an effective therapy for relieving the physical symptoms of CFS, and it may show certain effects on the immune functions.

Inhibitory effects of Curcuma aromatica oil on proliferation of hepatoma in mice

AIM To reveal the inhibitory effects ofCurcuma aromatica oil(CAO)on cellproliferation of hepatoma in *** Two tumor inhibitory experimentsof CAO on hepatoma in mice were *** inhibitory effects of CAO on proliferation ofhepatoma in mice were evaluated by DNA imagecytometry and immunohistochemical staining ofproliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA).RESULTS The tumor inhibitory rates of CAOwere 52% and 51% in two experiments,*** with those of the saline-treated control groups,both differences werestatistically significant(P<0.01).In the groupof mice treated with CAO,the cellular nuclearDNA OD value(249±70),areas(623 μm^2±228 μm^2)and DNA(2.38±0.67)index of hepaticcarcinomas were significantly lower than thoseof the control group(430±160,1073 μm^2±101 μm^2 and 4.48±0.71).CAO also couldincrease diploidy cell rates(29.00%±9.34% vs2.97%±5.69%,P<0.01)and decreasepentaploidy cell exceeding rate(30.04%±15.10% vs 70.89%±14.94%,P<0.01).In thegroup of mice treated with CAO,the labelingindexes of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA-LI)were 30%±4%,which weresignificantly lower than 40%±6% of the controlgroup(P<0.01).CONCLUSION The inhibition of CAO on thegrowth of hepatoma in mice might be associatedwith its depression on cellular proliferativeactivity.

In 1999, Kehlet of Denmark put forward the concept of ＂Accelerated Rehabilitation Technique＂ and made related studies, It was at this time that new concepts such as ＂Damage Control Operations＂ and ＂Fast Track Surgery＂ was introduced in the conventional surgical practice, which prioritizes the survival rate and the quality of life of patients over the success rate of the operation.

Effect of bloodletting therapy at local myofascial trigger points and acupuncture at Jiaji(EX-B 2) points on upper back myofascial pain syndrome: a randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE： To observe the clinical efficacy of bloodletting therapy and acupuncture at Jiaji points for treating upper back myofascial pain syndrome （MPS）, and compare this with lidocaine block therapy. METHODS： A total of 66 were randomly assigned upper back MPS patients to either the treatment group or the control group in a 1 ： 1 ratio. The treatment group （n = 33） were treated with bloodletting therapy at local myofascial trigger points and acupuncture at Jiaji （EX-B 2） points; one treatment course consisted of five, single 20-min-treatments with a 2-day break between each treatment. The control group （n = 33） were treated with a lidocaine block at trigger points; one treatment course consisted of five sessions of lidocaine block therapy with a 2-day break between each session. The simplified McGill Scale （SF-MPQ） and tenderness threshold determination were used to assess pain before and after a course of treatment. RESULTS： After the third and fifth treatment, the SF-MPQ values were significantly decreased （P 〈 0.01） and the tenderness thresholds were significantly increased （P 〈 0.01） in both groups compared with before treatment. There were no significant differences in pain assessments between the two groups after three and five treatments （P 〉 0.05）. There were five cases with minor adverse reactions reported in the control patients, while no adverse reactions were reported in the treatment group. CONCLUSION： Bloodletting therapy at local myo- fascial trigger points and acupuncture at Jiaji points was effective in treating upper back MPS. Clinically, bloodletting and acupuncture therapy had the same efficacy as the lidocaine block therapy, with fewer adverse reactions.

Meta analysis of the curative effect of acupuncture on post-stroke depression

OBJECTIVE:To systematically evaluate the curative effect of acupuncture on post-stroke depression(PSD).METHODS:The internet was used to retrieve the Wanfang Medical Data System,Chinese Periodical Net,the Weipu Information Resources System,PubMed and the Cochrane Library *** articles,up to September 2010,were manually *** papers included studies that had performed random and semi-random control trials for the use of acupuncture to treat *** random control tests involving 1096 patients were included in this study and individual cases,interventional measures and curative effects were extracted from this *** methodological quality evaluation and meta-analysis were performed on these ***:Comparison between the acupuncture group and the Western medicine group for the curative rate on PSD revealed an OR of 1.48,95% CI = [1.11 1.97] and P=*** of obviously effective rate shows that OR=1.39,95% CI=[1.08 1.80] and P=*** of effective rate showsthatOR=0.83,95%CI=[0.631.09]andP=***:Comparison between the acupuncture group and Western medicine group in treating PSD revealed that there is a statistical difference in curative rate and remarkably effective rate,but no difference in effective rate.

A Follow-Up Study of 69 Discharged SARS Patients

Sixty-nine patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) discharged from guangdong Provincial tcm hospital were followed up from January to April 2003 during which the patients were asked to fill the questionnaire form and at the same time received blood routine examination, hepatic, renal,pulmonary and immune function tests, and spiral computerized tomography (CT) of the chest, color B-ultrasonography of the heart with the collected data treated by descriptive analysis and deductive *** results showed that in the 69 followed-up patients, impairment of the hepatic function was found in 5 cases, hypoimmune state in 18, impediment of ventilation in the distal air passages with normal major air passages in 15, increased residual volume in 40, mild disturbance of pulmonary diffusion function in 14,incomplete absorption of inflammatory exudatcs, focal or multiple interstitial lesions, pulmonary interstitial fibrosis and pleural adhesion in 24; increased resistance or mild systolic hypertension in the pulmonary circulation, and segmental ischemia of the left myocardium in 34; and decreased visual acuity in 2. According to tcm differentiation 24 cases belonged to the type of deficiency of both qi and yin, 8 deficiency of both the heart and spleen, 37 depression of the liver and deficiency of the spleen, 18 intermingling with damp-heat, and 7 intermingling with stagnant blood. Some patients still had psychological problems. The study indicates that though clinically cured and discharged from hospital,some SAPS patients have functional impairment of the heart, lung and liver, hypoimmnne state as well as psychologic/d problems, and need to be treated accordingly for a complete recovery. A rationale for suggested tcm treatment is expounded.
