Atorvastatin decreases inflammation and thrombogenesis in patients with carotid artery plaque. Atorvastatin is administered to lower lipid levels, but its anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombogenic effects remain unclear. Eighty-nine patients from northeastern China with acute ischemic stroke caused by large-artery atherosclerosis were randomly divided into the study and control groups. All patients received routine treatment, including antiplatelet therapy, circulatory support, and symp- tomatic treatment. The study group （n = 43） also received daily atorvastatin 20 mg/d, and the control group （n = 46） received daily placebo pills containing glucose. After 4 weeks, the levels of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group. Decreases in the levels of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were not associated with de- creases in the levels of triacylglycerol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. These results suggest that atorvastatin reduces inflammation and thrombogenesis independent of its lipid-lowering effects in patients with acute ischemic stroke caused by large-artery atherosclerosis.

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSC)have been used in clinical trials for severe diabetes,a chronic disease with high morbidity and *** marrow is the traditional source of human MSC,but human term placenta appears to be an alternative and more readily available ***,the therapeutic effect of human placenta-derived MSC(PD-MSC)was studied in type 2 diabetes patients with longer duration,islet cell dysfunction,high insulin doses as well as poor glycemic control in order to evaluate the safety,efficacy and feasibility of PD-MSC treatment in type 2 diabetes(T2D).Ten patients with T2D received three intravenous infusions of PDSC,with one month interval of *** total number of PDSC for each patient was(1.22–1.51)×10^(6)/kg,with an average of 1.35×10^(6)/*** of the patients were followed up after therapy for at least 3 months.A daily mean dose of insulin used in 10 patients was decreased from 63.7±18.7 to 34.7±13.4 IU(P<0.01),and the C-peptide level was increased from 4.1±3.7 ng/mL to 5.6±3.8 ng/mL(P<0.05)respectively after *** 4 of 10 responders their insulin doses reduced more than 50%after *** mean levels of insulin and C-peptide at each time point in a total of 10 patients was higher after treatment(P<0.05).No fever,chills,liver damage and other side effects were *** renal function and cardiac function were improved after *** results obtained from this pilot clinical trial indicate that transplantation of PD-MSC represents a simple,safe and effective therapeutic approach for T2D patients with islet cell *** large-scale,randomized and well-controlled clinical studies will be required to substantiate these observations.

Objective:To analyze the evaluation value of coronary CT angiography for coronary plaque features and its correlation with platelet function and serum biochemical ***:A total of 450 patients with coronary heart disease were divided into calcified plaque group (CT value≥130HU) (n=117), soft plaque group (CT value≤60HU) (n=150) and mixed plaque group (CT value 60-130HU) (n=183) by coronary CT angiography (CTA), and 100 healthy subjects who received physical examination in our hospital during the same period were selected as control group. Differences in platelet function and serum biochemical indexes were compared among four groups of patients, and the judgment value of atheromatous plaque CT value from CTA for the severity of coronary heart disease was ***: Platelet function parameters MPV, TEG-MA, P-selectin, PDGF-BB and vWF levels in peripheral blood of soft plaque group were higher than those of the other three groups;inflammatory factors CRP, IL-6, IL-12, IL-18 and IL-23 content in serum were higher than those of the other three groups;chemokines MCP-1, CXCL16, Fractalkine and RANTES content in serum were higher than those of the other three groups;adipocytokines Leptin and RBP4 content in serum were higher than those of the other three groups while SFRP5 content was lower than those of the other three groups. Atheromatous plaque CT value in patients with coronary heart disease was directly correlated with platelet function and the content of serum biochemical indexes. Conclusions: Coronary CTA can accurately assess coronary atheromatous plaque features, and can also be a reliable noninvasive method to judge coronary heart disease severity, treatment prognosis and so on.

Objective To assess the value of MR in the diagnosis of avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head. Methods MR images in 34 consecutive patients (26 men and 8 women) with AVN (57 hips) were reviewed. All lesions were confirmed by radiographic, radionuclide, computed tomographic, and/or histologic examination. Eleven specimens were obtained after total replacement of the hip. Four hips underwent biopsy. All MR images were obtained using a 0.35 T superconductive imaging unit with SE sequence. Specimens were cut coronally into 5 mm thick section and radiographs were obtained. Results There were four types of MR patterns of AVN. Type one appeared liner or patchy low signal area in the superoanterior portion of the femoral head. In type two, a band or ring of low signal intensity was found surrounding a central area of high signal intensity on T1WI and intermediate signal intensity on T2WI. The low signal band or ring consisted of thickened trabecular bone, mesenchymal and fibrous tissue, and amorphous acidophilic cellular debris. The central zones within the ring were composed of necrotic bone and marrow that had not been reached by the repair process. In type three, the focal subchondral region showed intermediate signal intensity on T1WI and high signal on T2WI surrounded by a low signal ring. The low signal ring consisted of thickened trabecular bone and little mesenchymal tissue. The central area was composed of mesenchymal tissue rich in capillaries and cystic necrotic zones. In type four, the signal intensity of femoral head was inhomogeneous on both T1WI and T2WI. There were low signal bands in the femoral neck surrounding the necrotic zone. Only limited areas of some lesions had signal intensity isointense with fat on T1WI and T2WI. The inhomogeneous area of low signal intensity consisted of a mixture of necrotic bone and marrow, amorphous cellular debris. To observe the effect of catgut implantation at acupoints on the treatment of patients with postpartum obesity and insulin ***:A total of 120 patients with postpartum obesity and insulin resistance were randomly divided into treatment and control groups(60 patients per group).The treatment group was administered catgut implantation at acupoints while the control group received acupuncture alone for 12 *** patients’body parameters,including body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hip ratio(WHR),fat percentage(FP),fasting blood glucose(FPG),fasting insulin(FINS),insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR),total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(T),high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein(LDL-C),and other biochemical indexes of blood lipids,were compared before and after treatment to investigate the efficacy of catgut implantation and acupuncture on postpartum obesity with insulin ***:The overall response rates were 93.33%and 85%in the treatment and control groups,*** treatment,BMI,WHR,FP,FINS,HOMA-IR,TC,TG,and LDL-C decreased,HDL-C increased(P0.05)in both groups;however,the changes in the treatment group were superior to those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Both catgut implantation and acupuncture therapy showed good effects on improving postpartum obesity with insulin *** therapeutic effect of catgut implantation on postpartum obesity was better than that of acupuncture therapy,and was therefore worthy of clinical application.
