Anoplophora glabripennis(Asian longhorn beetle,ALB)and Anoplophora chinensis(Citrus longhorn beetle,CLB)are native forest pests in China;they have become important international quarantine *** are found using the same Salix aureopendula host tree of Cixi,Zhejiang province,*** this host tree,we collected additional beetles that appeared to be morphologically intermediate between ALB and *** using a stereoscope,we observed that there were several bumps on the base of the elytra,which was inconsistent with ALB,which typically has a smooth elytral base,but was more like CLB,which has numerous short tubercles on the elytral *** their sympatry and intermediate morphology,we hypothesized that these may represent ALB×CLB *** studied the genomic profiles for 46 samples(ALB,CLB,and putative hybrids)using genotyping-by-sequencing(GBS)providing a reduced representation of the entire *** principal component analyses on the 163 GBS-derived single nucleotide polymorphism data,we found putative hybrids tightly clustered with ALB,but genetically distinct from the CLB ***,our initial hybrid hypothesis was not supported by genomic ***,while mating experiments between adult ALB and CLB were successful in 4 separate years(2017,2018,2020,and 2021),and oviposition behavior was observed,no progeny was *** employed population genomic analysis and biological hybridization experiments,we conclude that the putative hybrids represent newly discovered morphological variants within *** approach further confirmed the advantage of genome-wide information for Anoplophora species assignment in certain ambiguous classification cases.

A novel dual-material probe for in situ measurement of particle charge densities in gas-solid fluidized beds

Particle charge density is vitally important for monitoring electrostatic charges and understanding particle charging behavior in fluidized beds. In this paper, a dual-material probe was tested in a gas-solid fluidized bed for measuring the charge density of fluidized particles. The experiments were conducted in a two-dimensional fluidized bed with both single bubble injection and freely bubbling, at various particle charge densities and superficial gas velocities. Uniformly sized glass beads were used to eliminate complicating factors at this early stage of probe development. Peak currents, extracted from dynamic signals, were decoupled to determine charge densities of bed particles, which were found to be qualitatively and quantitatively consistent with charge densities directly measured by Faraday cup from the freely bubbling fluidized bed. The current signals were also decoupled to estimate bubble rise velocities, which were found to be in reasonable agreement with those obtained directly by analyzing video images.

Effects of thinning and understory removal on water use efficiency of Pinus massoniana:evidence from photosynthetic capacity and stable carbon isotope analyses

Understanding the relationship between forest management and water use efficiency(WUE)is important for evaluating forest adaptability to climate ***,the effects of thinning and understory removal on WUE and its key controlling processes are not well understood,which limits our comprehension of the physiological mechanisms of various management *** this study,four forest management measures(no thinning:NT;understory removal:UR;light thinning:LT;and heavy thinning:HT)were carried out in Pinus massoniana plantations in a subtropical region of *** capacity and needle stable carbon isotope composition(δ^(13)C)were measured to assess instantaneous water use efficiency(WUE_(inst))and long-term water use efficiency(WUE_(i)).Multiple regression models and structural equation modelling(SEM)identified the effects of soil properties and physiological performances on WUE_(inst)and WUE_(i).The results show that WUE_(inst)values among the four treatments were ***,compared with the NT stand(35.8μmol·mol^(-1)),WUE_(i)values significantly increased to 41.7μmol·mol^(-1)in the UR,50.1μmol·mol^(-1)in the LT and 46.6μmol·mol^(-1)in HT treatments,largely explained by photosynthetic capacity and soil water *** removal did not change physiological performance(needle water potential and photosynthetic capacity).Thinning increased the net photosynthetic rate(A_n)but not stomatal conductance(g_s)or predawn needle water potential(ψ_(pd)),implying that the improvement in water use efficiency for thinned stands was largely driven by radiation interception than by soil water *** general,thinning may be an appropriate management measure to promote *** WUE to cope with seasonal droughts under future extreme climates.

AIM To describe the characteristics of people diagnosed with acute and chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection in british columbia(BC).METHODS We used data from the BC Hepatitis Testers Cohort(BCHTC),which includes all individuals tested for hepatitis C virus(HCV) or human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) or those diagnosed with HBV or active tuberculosis in BC since *** data were integrated with prescription drug,medical visit,hospitalization and mortality *** cases were classified as acute or chronic according to provincial *** compared characteristics of individuals by HBV infection group(acute,chronic and negative).Factors associated with acute or chronic HBV infection were assessed with multinomial logistic regression models in comparison to the HBV negative ***46498 of the 1058056 eligible BC-HTC participants were diagnosed with HBV infection.4.3% of HBV positive individuals were diagnosed with acute HBV infections while 95.7% had chronic *** alcohol use,injection drug use,and HIV or HCV co-infection were more common among individuals diagnosed with acute HBV compared to those with chronic infections and HBV negative *** multivariable multinomial logistic regression models,we observed significant associations between acute or chronic HBV diagnosis and being male,age at HBV diagnosis or birth cohort,South and East Asian ethnicity,HCV or HIV infection,and injection drug *** odds of acute HBV decreased with increasing age among people who inject drugs,while the opposite was true for chronic *** with acute HBV were predominantly White(78%) while those with chronic HBV were mostly East Asian(60%).Relative to Whites,East Asians had 12 times greater odds of being diagnosed with chronic HBV *** odds increased with increasing socioeconomic *** Differences in the profiles of people diagnosed with acute and chronic HBV infection necessitate differentiated screening,preven

Circular RNAs(circRNAs)are emerging as a promising alternative to messenger RNAs(mRNAs)in gene delivery applications due to their enhanced stability and *** circRNA-based therapeutic platforms requires efficient manufacturing of circRNA with broad ***,the permuted intron-exon(PIE)-based circRNA production commonly used to date involves complex RNA synthesis,circularization,precursor RNA digestion,and impurity removal steps that have limited practical *** co-transcriptional circularization could effectively streamline circRNA production,and both cellulose/phosphatase treatment and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)have demonstrated their reliability in mRNA manufacturing,their potential effects on the quality,translation,and reactogenicity of circRNA remained to be fully ***,using circRNAs systematically manufactured through three independent workflows,we comprehensively examined the utilities of these RNA synthesis and processing methods in circRNA production by comparing the integrity,translation,and immunogenicity of their circRNA *** began by manufacturing a mNeonGreen(mNG)-encoding circRNA through these workflows and subsequently assessed circRNA integrity via E-gel EX *** expression was then monitored in HEK 293T,A549,and DC2.4 cells at 72 hours ***,we evaluated the immunogenicity of these circRNAs by measuring their interferon beta(IFN-β)induction in A549 cells at 4 hours *** HPLC purification over cellulose and phosphatase treatment resulted in 10-14%higher circRNA enrichment by reducing nicking associated with processing *** expression remained consistent across circRNAs from different workflows(P>0.05),demonstrating that co-transcriptional circularization produces circRNA with translation levels comparable to those obtained from the conventional PIE ***,both cellulose/phosphatase treatment

An experimental approach to addressing ecological questions related to the conservation of plant biodiversity in China

We briefly introduce and describe seven questions related to community structure and biodiversity conservation that can be addressed using field experiments,and provide the context for using the vast geographic diversity,biodiversity,and network of Nature Reserves in China to perform these *** is the world's third largest country,has a diverse topography,covers five climatic zones from cold-temperate to tropical,has 18 vegetation biomes ranging from Arctic / alpine tundra and desert to Tropical rain forest,and supports the richest biodiversity in the temperate northern hemisphere( > 10%of the world total). But this tremendous natural resource is under relentless assault that threatens to destroy biodiversity and negatively impact the services ecosystems provide. In an attempt to prevent the loss of biodiversity,China has established 2,729 nature reserves which cover 14.84% of the nation' s area. Unfortunately underfunding,mismanagement,illegal activities,invasive species and global climate change threaten the effectiveness of these protected areas. Attention has focused on protecting species and their habitats before degradation and loss of either species or habitats occur. Here we argue that we must move beyond the simple protection of ecosystems,beyond their description,and by using experiments,try to understand how ecosystems work. This new understanding will allow us to design conservation programs,perform restoration of damaged or degraded areas,and address resource management concerns( e.g.,agriculture,logging,mining,hunting) more effectively than with the current approach of ad hoc reactions to ecological and environmental problems. We argue that improving our understanding of nature can best be done using well designed,replicated,and typically manipulative field experiments.

In recent years,the Internet of Things(IoT)has gradually developed applications such as collecting sensory data and building intelligent services,which has led to an explosion in mobile data ***,with the rapid development of artificial intelligence,semantic communication has attracted great attention as a new communication ***,for IoT devices,however,processing image information efficiently in real time is an essential task for the rapid transmission of semantic *** the increase of model parameters in deep learning methods,the model inference time in sensor devices continues to *** contrast,the Pulse Coupled Neural Network(PCNN)has fewer parameters,making it more suitable for processing real-time scene tasks such as image segmentation,which lays the foundation for real-time,effective,and accurate image ***,the parameters of PCNN are determined by trial and error,which limits its *** overcome this limitation,an Improved Pulse Coupled Neural Networks(IPCNN)model is proposed in this *** IPCNN constructs the connection between the static properties of the input image and the dynamic properties of the neurons,and all its parameters are set adaptively,which avoids the inconvenience of manual setting in traditional methods and improves the adaptability of parameters to different types of *** segmentation results demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed self-adaptive parameter setting method of IPCNN on the gray images and natural images from the Matlab and Berkeley Segmentation *** IPCNN method achieves a better segmentation result without training,providing a new solution for the real-time transmission of image semantic information.
