Effect of the Addition of High Li Concentration on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-Mg-Si Alloys with Different Mg Contents

In the present work,the microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of Al-1.5 Mg-0.6Si and Al-3.0 Mg-0.6Si alloy containing 3 wt%Li were investigated by optical microscopy(OM),X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),time of flight-secondary ion mass spectrometry(SIMS),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and mechanical performance *** addition of Li reduces the density of the base alloy by up to 8.4%.The residual second phases contain Mg and Si in the hot-rolled condition,but the Mg/Si atomic ratio decreases after quenching,which means that Li substitute some of the Mg and convert Mg_(2)Si into a(Mg,Li)_(2)Si phase during solution *** results of SIMS observations confirm *** high Mg-containing alloy has a more rapid hardening response compared to the low Mg-containing *** observation reveals that theδ′-Al3Li+β′′-Mg_(2)Si dual phases can be observed in the high Mg-containing alloy after aging for 100 h at 170°*** higher Mg content enhances the precipitation of theδ′phase,which results in the high Mg-containing alloy having a larger average diameter size ofδ′particles and widerδ′-precipitate-free zones(δ′-PFZs).The mechanical properties are significantly improved with the elastic modulus increasing by more than 16.5%.However,the existence of large second phases and wideδ′-PFZs in Li-containing alloys is detrimental to their ductility;as a result,their elongation is much lower than that of the base alloy.

A scalable synthesis of silicon nanoparticles as high-performance anode material for lithium-ion batteries

In this work, a scalable and cost-effective method including mechanical milling, centrifugation and spray drying was developed to fabricate Si *** synthesized Si nanoparticles show an average size of 62 nm and exhibit a narrow particle size distribution. The influence of particle sizes on electrochemical performance of Si-based electrode was investigated, and it is found that as the particle size decreases in the studied range, the Si particles show a lower specific capacity and a higher irreversible capacity loss(ICL). Furthermore, an oxide layer with thickness of ～3 nm was detected on the surface of the as-received Si nanoparticles, and this layer can be effectively removed by hydrofluoric acid(HF) etching,resulting in much improved electrochemical performance over the as-received samples.

Interface evolution of Cu-Ni-Si/Al-Mg-Si clad composite wires after annealing

Interface micros tructures of Cu-Ni-Si/Al-MgSi clad composite wires during isothermal annealing from 623 to 773 K were *** composite wires were fabricated by a drawing *** evolution of intermetallic compounds(IMCs)was analyzed.A continuous IMCs layer forms only after annealing for 1 min,which may be due to more IMCs nucleation points generated by deep drawing *** consist of Al_(4)Cu_(9),AlCu and Al_(2)Cu identified by energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The growth activation energies of total IMCs,Al_(2)Cu,AlCu and Al_(4)Cu_(9),are 98.8,69.4,101.3 and 137.1 kJ·mol^(-1),*** higher growth activation energy of Al_(4)Cu_(9)results in the higher growth rate under high ***,the average interdiffusion coefficient for each IMC calculated by Wagner method shows that interdiffusion in Al_(2)Cu and AlCu is more active than that in Al_(4)Cu_(9).The higher growth rate of Al_(4)Cu_(9)may be caused by the long concentration range.

The microstructure and mechanical properties of rheo-diecasting Al-6Zn-2Mg-2Cu alloys microalloyed with Ti,Sc and Sc+Zr were studied by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),hardness testing,and tensile *** swirled equilibrium enthalpy device(SEED)process was introduced to prepare the semisolid *** show that the addition of Ti,Sc,and Sc+Zr refines the grain size and improves the uniformity of the semisolid slurry and then suppresses the growth of theα-Al grain during solution heat *** microstructure of the four alloys in as-cast state mainly consists of sphericalα-Al and the Mg(Al,Cu,Zn)_(2)(η)eutectic ***,primary Al_(3)Sc,Al_(3)(Sc,Zr)and Al_(3)Zr are also found in the micro-alloying *** solution and aging heat treatment,most of the Mg(Al,Cu,Zn)_(2) phases dissolve into theα-Al matrix,while part of Mg(Al,Cu,Zn)_(2) phases transform to Al_(2)CuMg(S)***,the coarse primary Al_(3)Sc and Al_(3)(Sc,Zr)still remain in the matrix,and promote crack initiation and *** the tensile strength of 553 MPa,yield strength of 463 MPa and elongation of 13.4%at T6 state,trace Ti addition generates more attractive mechanical properties than the other three alloys.

Residual stress with asymmetric spray quenching for thick aluminum alloy plates

Solution and quenching heat treatments are generally carried out in a roller hearth furnace for large-scale thick aluminum alloy ***,the asymmetric or uneven spray water flow rate is inevitable under industrial production conditions,which leads to an asymmetric residual stress *** spray quenching treatment was conducted on self-designed spray equipment,and the residual stress along the thickness direction was measured by a layer removal method based on *** the asymmetric spray quenching condition,the subsurface stress of the high-flow rate surface was lower than that of the low-flow rate surface,and the difference between the two subsurface stresses increased with the increase in the difference in water flow *** subsurface stress underneath the surface with a water flow rate of 0.60 m^(3)/h was 15.38 MPa less than that of 0.15 m^(3)/*** simulated residual stress by finite element(FE)method of the high heat transfer coefficient(HTC)surface was less than that of the low HTC surface,which is consistent with the experimental *** FE model can be used to analyze the strain and stress evolution and predict the quenched stress magnitude and distribution.

Microstructure and surface of 2A12 aluminum alloy cladded with pure aluminum after solution treatment

The effects of solution temperature and holding time on the microstructure, mechanical properties and surface morphology of 2 A12 aluminum alloy sheets were discussed in this paper. The universal tensile tester was used to test the tensile strength and yield strength of aluminum alloy sheets with different treatment systems. The surface morphology of the alloy sheets was characterized by a white light interference profile scanner, and the microstructure of the sheets was characterized by optical microscope(OM), scanning electron microscope(SEM)and electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD). The results showed that the mechanical properties of the sheets could not satisfy GBT228.1-2010 national standard when the holding time was 10 min and the holding temperature was475 ℃. However, under the other heat treatment systems,the alloy could reach the GBT228.1-2010 national standard. Moreover, with the extension of the holding time, the part of the matrix gradually diffused into the aluminumclad layer. When the holding time was shorter than 25 min,the boundary between the matrix and the aluminum-clad layer was relatively obvious. And the diffusion gradually became obvious when the holding time was over 25 ***, the boundary became blurry. The further investigation suggested that the solution temperature of495 ℃ and the holding time of 35 min showed better mechanical properties and better surface morphology.

Synthesis of LaPO_4:Ce,Terbium by Co-Precipitation Method

The synthesis of precursor of green phosphors, LaPO4: Ce, Tb, by means of co-precipitation with cocurrent flow feed was studied. The effects of the reaction temperature, the kind and concentration of the acid in the bottom water, and the charging rate on the physical properties, such as particle size, were investigated. It is found that the particle size of the powder is controllable by adjusting acidity in bottom water and charging rate. The powder with diameter size of 3 to 5μm was obtained. Its XRD and SEM were analyzed. XRD patterns of the as-prepared green phosphor powders display the typical peaks of CePO4. SEM shows that the morphology of powders is ball-shaped.

Microstructural characterization of as-cast and homogenized 2D70 aluminum alloy

The microstructure of the as-cast 2D70 aluminum alloy and its evolution during homogenization were investigated by means of optical microscopy （OM）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDS）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, and differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） analysis. The results indicate that the microstructure of the as-cast 2D70 aluminum alloy mainly consists of the dendritic network of aluminum solid solution and intermetallic compounds （Al2CuMg, Al2Cu, Al9FeNi, Cu2FeAl7, and Al7Cu4Ni）. After conventional homogenization, Al/Al2CuMg eutectic phases are dissolved into the matrix, and a small amount of high melting-point eutectic Al/Al2Cu phases exist in the matrix, resulting in an increase in the starting melting temperature. Under double homogenization, the high melting point Al/Al2Cu phases are dissolved, and no obvious change is observed for the size and morphology of Al9FeNi, Cu2FeAl7, and Al7CuaNi compounds.

Preparation of Al-Hf master alloy by aluminothermic reduction of HfO_(2)

The Al-Hf alloy was prepared by open aluminothermic reduction of HfO_(2) using CaF_(2) and Na F as the flux. The influence of the slag composition, the amount of aluminum, and the heat energizer was studied detailly to establish optimum conditions for the sufficient recovery of the alloy and the complete slag-alloy separation. The Al-Hf alloy with 40 wt% Hf was obtained by this method, and the maximum recovery was 70.7%. The microstructure of the alloy was observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). Moreover, X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis and energy-disperse spectrometry(EDS) were applied to characterize the formation of the phases. The results show that the alloy consists of Al and Al_(3)Hf phases and the oxygen content is about 0.2 wt%.

Contrasting strategies of optimizing carrier concentration in bulk InSe for enhanced thermoelectric performance

Indium selenide (InSe),as a wide-bandgap semiconductor,has received extensive attention in the flexible electronics field in recent years due to its exceptional plasticity and promising thermoelectric ***,the low carrier concentration severely limits its thermoelectric performance *** this work,we conducted contrasting strategies that can be employed to increase the carrier concentration of InSe,including bandgap narrowing and heterovalent ***,the carrier concentration initially increases as a result of the reduced bandgap upon Te alloying and then slightly decreases due to the weak electronegativity of *** Br doping realizes high carrier concentration by pushing the Fermi level into the conduction bands and activating the multiple *** the other hand,both Te and Br obviously suppress the thermal conductivity due to the point defect *** contrast,Br doping realizes a higher thermoelectric performance with a maximum ZT of～0.13 at 773 K benefiting from the better optimization of carrier *** work elucidates the strategies for enhancing carrier concentration at anion sites and demonstrates the high efficiency of halogen doping in ***,the carrier concentration of InSe is promising to be further optimized,and future work should focus on employing approaches such as cation doping or secondphase compositing.
