We describe the expression of α-catenin in early gastric cancer and compare its role related to clinicopathology. Sixty-nine specimens were surgically obtained from early gastric cancer patients- Monoclonal antibody anti-α-catenin was used in the immunohistochemical (ABC method)study. The rate of reduced expression of α-catenin was 65. 2%. There was a statistically significant correlation between the decreased expression of a-catenin and the histology, the quantity or stroma and infiltration pattern of tumors, as well as the age of patients, the size, the position, the gross type and lymph node metastasis of tumors. our observations suggest that reduced expression of α-catenin might be involved in the initial step of invasion and metastasis in early gastric cancer.

As an irreversible and perennial process,aging is accompanied by functional and morphological declines in organs. Generally,aging liver exhibits a decline in volume and hepatic blood flow. Even with a preeminent regenerative capacity to restore its functions after liver cell loss,its biosynthesis and metabolism abilities decline,and these are difficult to restore to previous standards. Apoptosis is a programmed death process via intrinsic and extrinsic pathways,in which Bcl-2 family proteins and apoptosis-related genes,such as p21 and p53,are *** inflicts both favorable and adverse influences on liver *** eliminates transformed abnormal cells but promotes age-related liver diseases,such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,liver fibrosis,cirrhosis,and liver cancer. The human lens epithelial cells (HLE) cultured in vitro was established in normal and cataractous lenses. The biological feature, histological characteristics and the ultrastructure of the cultured HLE cells were investigated. Polyarteritis (PA) is an inflammation of theaorta and some of its major proximal branches andthe pulmonary artery. It has also been calledpulseless disease, aortic arch syndrome, young fe-male arteritis, idiopathic arteritis, and reversedcoarctation etc The present name of this diseasefirst appeared in 1962, an article written by twoChinese doctors, Huang W and Liu LS, and wassubsequently worldwide accepted. The clinical pic-ture presented in literatures was different in some ex-tent in each group owing to their different aspects ofemphasis. However, the reports of inflamma-tory lesion were mainly confined in the pulmonaryartery, and complicating huge thrombosis in itsmain stem has been rarely seen . This report pres-ented a case, lacking in signs of pulselessness, butwith clinical manifestations of hemoptysis andpulmonary hypertension. PA complicated by a hugethrombus was revealed at autopsy.

BACKGROUND： Liver resection is currently the most efficient curative approach for a wide variety of liver tumors. The application of modern techniques and new surgical devices has improved operative outcomes. Radiofrequency ablation is used more often for liver parenchymal transection. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency ablation-assisted liver ***： A retrospective study of 145 consecutive patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation-assisted liver resection was performed. Intraoperative blood loss, need for transfusion or intraoperative Pringle maneuver, the duration of liver parenchymal transection, perioperative complications, and postoperative morbidity and mortality were all ***： Fifty minor and ninety-five major liver resections were performed. The mean intraoperative blood loss was 251 m L, with a transfusion rate of 11.7%. The Pringle maneuver was necessary in 12 patients（8.3%）. The mean duration for parenchymal transection was 51.75 minutes. There were 47 patients（32.4%） with postoperative complications. There is no mortality within 30 days after surgery. CONCLUSIONS： Radiofrequency ablation-assisted liver resection permits both major and minor liver resections with minimal blood loss and without occlusion of hepatic inflow. Furthermore it decreases the need for blood transfusion and reduces morbidity and mortality.

Objective:To investigate the levels of serum Cortisol in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum(***) malaria in an area of unstable malaria transmission in eastern Sudan. Methods:The concentrations of Cortisol were measured in sera of 25 patients with uncomplicated *** malaria(at presentation,24 h and 7 d later) and 25 healthy volunteers using radioimmunoassay gamma ***:There was no significant difference in mean(SD) of total Cortisol levels in patients with malaria in comparison with the control group;602.2(369.6) vs. 449.2(311.7) ng/mL,P=*** patients with uncomplicated *** malaria,the mean(SD) presenting Cortisol levels were significantly higher in comparison to the levels on day 7;602.2 (369.6) vs.373.6(139.1) ng/mL,P=*** the patients with uncomplicated *** malaria (on presentation) Cortisol levels were not correlated with initial temperature or the presenting ***:Thus,Cortisol levels were not significantly different between the patients and the controls.

P7C3-A20 treats traumatic brain injury in rats by inhibiting excessive autophagy and apoptosis

Traumatic brain injury is a severe health problem leading to autophagy and apoptosis in the brain.3,6-Dibromo-beta-fluoro-N-(3-methoxyphenyl)-9H-carbazole-9-propanamine(P7C3-A20)can be neuroprotective in various diseases,including ischemic stroke and neurodegenerative ***,whether P7C3-A20 has a therapeutic effect on traumatic brain injury and its possible molecular mechanisms are ***,in the present study,we investigated the therapeutic effects of P7C3-A20 on traumatic brain injury and explored the putative underlying molecular *** established a traumatic brain injury rat model using a modified weight drop method.P7C3-A20 or vehicle was injected intraperitoneally after traumatic brain *** neurological deficits were found in rats after traumatic brain injury,with deterioration in balance,walking function,and learning ***,hematoxylin and eosin staining showed significant neuronal cell damage,while terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick end labeling staining indicated a high rate of *** presence of autolysosomes was observed using transmission electron microscope.P7C3-A20 treatment reversed these pathological *** blotting showed that P7C3-A20 treatment reduced microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3-Ⅱ(LC3-Ⅱ)autophagy protein,apoptosis-related proteins(namely,Bcl-2/adenovirus E1B 19-kDa-interacting protein 3[BNIP3],and Bcl-2 associated x protein[Bax]),and elevated ubiquitin-binding protein p62(p62)autophagy protein ***,P7C3-A20 can treat traumatic brain injury in rats by inhibiting excessive autophagy and apoptosis.

Objective: To review the management experience of a consecutive series of patients presenting as acute surgical abdomen whom were ultimately diagnosed to have DF(Dengue fever)/ DHF(Dengue heamorrhagic fever),Methods: Clinical data of all cases of apparent acute abdomen(AA) which were later confirmed as having DF/DHF reviewed by two surgical units from December 2012 to December 2013 were analyzed,Initially confirmed patients with DF/DHF who developed abdominal symptoms were not considered,Results: Out of the seventeen cases(7 males,age range 10-71 years) presented with fever and AA; appendicitis,cholecystitis,pancreatitis and non-specific peritonitis were suspected initially in 8,5,1 and 3 cases,respectively,Neutropenia or thrombocytopenia signifying DF/DHF occurred only in 11 patients at first evaluation thus six remained as surgical candidates beyond 24 h,One patient underwent appendicectomy with a prolonged hospital stay,DF was confirmed by serology in all patients,latest by fourth day of admission,One required blood product transfusion,4 needed critical care treatment and there was 1 death,Conclusions: DF/DHF misleads the clinicians when it presents as AA,Initial heamatological and ultrasonographic findings may be equivocal creating a diagnostic and management dilemma,Vigilant clinical suspicion and early dengue serological assessment is advisable in equivocal cases of AAs with fever in dengue endemic areas,to confirm/exclude the infection in order to avoid unnecessary surgical morbidity in the presence of DF.
