Brain metastasis as exclusion criteria in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer trials:a trend over decades

Gamma-emitting radionuclide ^(99m)Tc is globally used for the diagnosis of various pathological conditions owing to its ideal single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) ***,the short half-life of ^(99m)Tc (T_(1/2)=6 h)makes it difficult to store or ***,the production of ^(99m)Tc is tied to its parent radionuclide ^(99)Mo (T_(1/2)=66 h).The major production paths are based on accelerators and research *** reactor process presents the potential for nuclear proliferation owing to its use of highly enriched uranium (HEU).Accelerator-based methods tend to use deuterium–tritium(D–T) neutron sources but are hindered by the high cost of tritium and its challenging *** this study,a new ^(99)Mo production design was developed based on a deuterium–deuterium (D–D) gas dynamic trap fusion neutron source (GDT-FNS) and a subcritical blanket system (SBS) assembly with a low-enriched uranium (LEU) ***-FNS can provide a relatively high-neutron intensity,which is one of the advantages of ^(99)Mo *** provide a Monte Carlo-based neutronics analysis covering the calculation of the subcritical multiplication factor (k_(s)) of the SBS,optimization design for the reflector,shielding layer,and ^(99)Mo production *** calculations,including the neutron flux and nuclear heating distributions,are also provided for an overall evaluation of the production *** results demonstrated that the SBS meets the nuclear critical safety design requirement (k_(s)<0.97) and maintained a high ^(99)Mo production *** proposed system can generate approximately 157 Ci ^(99)Mo for a stable 24 h operation with a neutron intensity of 1×10^(14) n/s,which can meet 50%of China’s demand in 2025.

Objective： To investigate the action mechanism of extracellular matrix in acupoint region in acupuncture signal transmission. Methods： Forty SD rats, half male and half female, were randomly allocated to the experiment group, basic pain threshold group, normal saline group and acupuncture group, with 10 rats in each group, the tail temperature at which rat flicks its tail in heat radiation tail flick test was taken as an observation index. In experiment group, the rats were given acupuncture treatment 30 rain after injection of synthetic pentapeptide GRGDY （glycyl-arginyl-glycyl-aspartyl-tyrosine, Gly-Arg-Aly-Asp-Tyr） into ＂Housanli＂ area, basal pain threshold group, normal saline group which was given injection of 0.9% NaCl into ＂Housanli＂ area and acupuncture group which was given acupuncture at ＂Housanli＂ were used as controls. Results： As compared with acupuncture group, the temperature at which rat flicked its tail did not significantly changes following acupuncture 30 min after injection of GRGDY. Conclusion： GRGDY could not prevent the acupuncture effect, and the initial mechanism of acupuncture effect might have no relation to the structural site that extracellular matrix combines with integrin specially

Pancreatic cancer(PC) has been one of the deadliest of all cancers, with almost uniform lethality despite aggressive treatment. Recently, there have been important advances in the molecular, pathological and biological understandingof pancreatic cancer. Even after the emergence of recent new targeted agents and the use of multiple therapeutic combinations, no treatment option is viable in patients with advanced cancer. Developing novel strategies to target progression of PC is of intense interest. A small population of pancreatic cancer stem cells(CSCs) has been found to be resistant to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. CSCs are believed to be responsible for tumor initiation, progression and metastasis. The CSC research has recently achieved much progress in a variety of solid tumors, including pancreatic cancer to some extent. This leads to focus on understanding the role of pancreatic CSCs. The focus on CSCs may offer new targets for prevention and treatment of this deadly cancer. We review the most salient developments in important areas of pancreatic CSCs. Here, we provide a review of current updates and new insights on the role of CSCs in pancreatic tumor progression with special emphasis on Dcl K1 and Lgr5, signaling pathways altered by CSCs, and the role of CSCs in prevention and treatment of PC.

Traditional Chinese medicines （TCMs） have been em-ployed for centuries in the treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. Previous reviews of this topic have focused on certain aspects of TCM treatment rather than an overall assessment of their value and mechanisms of action. Both the Chinese and English medical literatures were reviewed to identify where TCM might be of value in the treatment of HCC and the justifcation for such treatment. TCM treatment corrects the “internal disequilibriums” thought to be responsible for the development, growth, and spread of the tumor. It has also been used to manage symptoms associa-ted with HCC and the adverse effects of chemo- and radiation-therapies. Recent research has documented the precise effects of TCM on tumor biology. There are also increasing efforts to identify which of the many components of TCM herbal remedies are primarily res-ponsible for these beneficial effects. This review out-lines the benefits of TCM treatment of HCC and the laboratory data describing their anti-tumor properties.
