In this study,we present the different properties of beveling process,equivalent series resistance（ESR）,temperature curves,temperature hysteresis,and shock resistance of different sizes of X- and Z’-elongated rectangular AT-cut quartz *** results show the Z’-elongated quartz strip mounted on the two width sides has better performance in temperature hysteresis and shock *** for mode coupling,beveling process,and temperature curve,X- and Z’-elongated rectangular AT-cut quartz plate have their respective properties.

Aging as long-term stability is one of the most important characteristics of quartz crystal resonators,and stress and out-gas make major *** this paper,aging frequency drift mechanisms under different conditions of mounting types and aging temperatures are *** results show that the frequency drift under 85℃aging of both two-point and four-point mounted quartz chip are similar;however,the stability performance under 150℃aging of two-point mounted resonator is much better than that of four-point mounted *** main reason is the aging curve of two-point mounted resonator is a comprehensive aging curve,since effects of out-gas and stress are balanced well,which is supported by the IVA test.

The recent rapid expansion of optical fiber networking market fuels the demand for accurate 10000 MHz fixed frequency oscillators based on surface acoustic wave(SAW) ***,several suppliers can offer small size and cost efficient SMD single-end and differential SAW oscillators(SOs) with very good phase jitter *** customers prefer SO solution as it is free of the unsettling problems from some crystal oscillator(XO) solutions- high cost of high frequency fundamental(HFF) and inverted mesa(IM) crystal blanks,spurious modes,frequency jumping,drive level sensitivity,high cost of phase lock loop(PLL) die,*** paper is to provide a brief view of the current state of the development of fixed frequency *** on the aging data of more than 20,000 hours at 125℃,the authors also comment on the SO aging performance fabricated using different SAW wave-types.

The effect of metal electrodes on the high frequency vibrations of plates has to be carefully considered in the analysis and design of quartz crystal *** studies have been done in the analysis of various electrode configurations,including the symmetric,asymmetric,and layered structures to predict the exact frequency and mode shapes which are important in the estimation of resonator properties and the optimal design parameters for the fundamental thickness-shear vibration *** practical experiences,it is evident that the electrode structure has much stronger effects on the overtone vibrations of quartz crystal plates and resonators,but the analytical solutions based on even simple analytical model have not been examined in earlier *** this paper,we start from the usual ideal model of an AT-cut quartz crystal plate covered by metal electrodes,and frequency equations, which have been obtained in earlier studies with and without the consideration of piezoelectric effect,are evaluated with known parameters to observe the changes of the vibration frequencies of different overtone modes and *** is clear that the frequency change is much large for overtone modes in comparison to the familiar fundamental vibrations of most quartz crystal *** formulation can also be extended for the consideration of the thermal effect of electrodes for the study of the frequency-temperature relation for the higher-order overtone *** earlier study on the layered metal electrodes can also be extended to the higher-order overtones for the optimal determination of design *** is expected that by solving the familiar equations for frequency under the complication of electrodes at higher-order overtone frequencies,we should be able to refine and establish a procedure for the analysis and design which has been overlooked due to the complexity of the problem and lack of demands,which is now being promoted by the increasing frequency

Lee and Brebbia in 1978 presented a finite element analysis (FEA) of AT-cut quartz crystal resonator by including the thickness-shear branches in the length-width directions and the flexural branch in the thickness direction based on Mindlin’s 2-D elastic equations. The formulation was pure elastic and electrical impedance of different modes could not be calculated since piezoelectric effect and damping were not included. Due to its high Q and temperature stable properties,for many years,quartz crystal based oscillators are important clock sources in consumer,commercial,industrial and military digital sub-modules and *** demand for quartz crystal resonators and oscillators continues to rise. The unique fabrication and encapsulation requirements though render quartz crystal resonators and oscillators difficult or close to impossible to be integrated onto the mature silicon based IC platforms. The recent technical breakthrough of MEMS based resonators and oscillators seem re-ignite the interest in displacing/replacing the quartz crystal technology and to open up again the prospect in clock source *** paper discusses and assesses,from the viewpoint of a quartz crystal manufacturer, such development and its possible impact on the quartz crystal industry which also experiences major progresses in miniaturization,performance enhancement,cost reduction,etc.,in the past few years.

Lee, Liu and Ballato presented the 3-D equations of linear piezoelectricity with quasi-electrostatic approximation which include losses attributed to mechanical damping in solid and resistance in current conduction. Lamb and Richter measured the first set of values of the viscosity tensor for quartz, and Ballato, by using these values, calculated the Q factor for various cuts of quartz.
