Efficacy of acupuncture on cancer pain:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Pain associated with cancer is one of the greatest causes of reduced quality of life in *** is one of the treatments used to address this issue,with the great advantage of having little or no side effects,especially when compared with pharmacological ***:the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the current evidence regarding the efficacy of acupuncture for cancer *** strategy:Six electronic databases(PubMed,EBSCO,Cochrane Library,Scielo,b-On and Scopus)were searched for relevant articles about pain relief in cancer patients from their beginning until 2022using MeSH terms such as“acupuncture,”“electroacupuncture,”“ear acupuncture,”“acupuncture analgesia,”“oncological pain,”and“cancer pain.”Inclusion criteria:Studies included were randomized controlled trials(RCts)where acupuncture was compared with no treatment,placebo acupuncture or usual *** extraction and analysis:three independent reviewers participated in data extraction and evaluation of risk of bias,and a meta-analysis was *** primary outcome was pain intensity,measured with the visual analog scale,numeric rating scale,or brief pain *** outcomes also assessed were quality of life,functionality,xerostomia,pain interference,and analgesic *** were expressed as standardized mean difference(SMD)with 95%confidence interval(CI).Results:Sixteen RCts with a total of 1124 participants were included in the meta-analysis,with the majority of the studies presenting a low or unclear risk of *** was more effective in reducing pain than no treatment(SMD=–0.90,95%CI[–1.68,–0.12]),sham acupuncture(SMD=–1.10,95%CI[–1.59,–0.61])or usual care(SMD=–1.16,95%CI[–1.38,–0.93]).Conclusion:the results of this study suggest that acupuncture may be an effective intervention to reduce pain associated with *** some limitations due to the low quality and small sample size of some included st

Different types of plastic films are used in agriculture to cover silos storing silage. the most important characteristics of a tarpaulin for sealing the silage are: thickness, color and polymer used in the manufacture of the film. the objective of this study is to measure and compare the thickness, the use of two instruments (digital micrometer and digital thickness gauge) in plastic films (polyethylene, polyester and polyester/vinyl). this methodological analysis for the use of micrometer digital, for future use (Agronomy and Veterinary sciences). In comparison the thickness of the three factors. 5% by tukey test revealed that for polyethylene, there was no significant difference between factors. this methodology is satisfactory for the types of films and range of thicknesses studied.

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys have being applied to investigate very near-surface stratification of sedimentary units in coastal plains and to define their depositional conditions. this paper presents, however, low-frequency GPR survey to investigate fault-related depositional systems at greater depths. the Quinta-Cassino area in the Rio Grande do Sul Coastal Plain (RGSCP, Brazil) shows a wide strandplain that is made off by very long, continuous, and linear geomorphic features (beach ridges). this strandplain extends for ~70 km southward. the beach ridges show low-angle truncations against the Quinta escarpment, and also truncations in the strandplain. the traditional approach points that RGSCP was developed by juxtaposition of four lagoons/barrier systems as consequence of sea level changes;previous model assumes that no deformational episode occurred in RGSCP. the geophysical and geological surveys carried out in this area showed the existence of listric fault controlling the beach ridges in the escarpments and hanging-wall blocks. the radargrams could distinguish Pleistocene basement unit anticlockwise rotation, thickening of beach ridges radarfacies close to listric normal faults, and horst structures. these deformational features indicate that the extensional zone of a large-scale gravity-driven structure controlled the mechanical subsidence, the Holocene sedimentation and its stratigraphic and geomorphic features in the Quinta-Cassino area to build up an asymmetric delta. the results point to a new approach in dealing with RGSCP Holocene evolution.

this article presents the development and validation of the Superquadric Discrete Element Method(SuperDem)for non-spherical particle simulation using a superquadric particle method in open-source CFD suite MFiX.A superquadric particle-particle contact algorithm with accelerating and stabilizing strategy was developed.A superquadric particle-arbitrary wall contact algorithm was developed,which enables the simulation in complex *** solver was validated by comparing with experimental data generated in this study or available in the *** include cylinder contacting with a wall,static packing of M&M chocolate candies in a cylindrical container,static packing of cylinders in a cylindrical container,dynamic angle of repose of cylinders in a rotating drum,and discharging of chocolate candies from a ***,MPI parallelization of the solver was implemented and the parallel performance of the solver using MPI was assessed through large-scale simulations of 1 million,10 million,and 100 million particles on up to 6800 cores,which demonstrates that the SuperDem solver has great potential for industrial-scale systems simulation.

Improvement of the Mass Spectrometry Process on an Ion Implantation

Mass spectrometry is an essential part of ion implantation. therefore, in order to guarantee beam purity avoiding contamination of the implanted samples, a system was developed for the high current implanter at the Laboratory of Accelerators and Radiation technologies (LAtR) at the Instituto Superior técnico. the system presented and discussed in this paper was developed using a LabVIEW code and uses a PC to control and display the mass spectrum. It also permits to save all data acquired for posterior analysis. In order to show some capabilities of this system, some experimental results are presented.

Ion beam deceleration properties of a newly developed low-energy ion beam implantation system were studied. the objective of this system was to produce general purpose low-energy (5 to 15 keV) implantations with high current beam of hundreds of μA level, providing the most wide implantation area possible and allowing continuously magnetic scanning of the beam over the sample(s). this paper describes the developed system installed in the high-current ion implanter at the Laboratory of Accelerators and Radiation technologies of the Nuclear and technological Cam-pus, Sacavém, Portugal (CtN).

the retrieval of lost entanglement for relatively accelerated fermionic observers of a tripartite system by a partial measurement technique has been *** the prospective of the negativities of one-tangles and theπ-tangle,we show that the degraded entanglement in noninertial frames with single-mode approximation is completely retrieved by an optimal strength of the partial measurement or the partial measurement *** addition,we find that the optimal one-tangle with respect to inertial and noninertial observers turns out to be the same for an optimal strength of partial measurements at q0=0 when two accelerated observers move with infinite acceleration.

Loss or gain of chromosomes,a condition known as aneuploidy,is a common feature of tumor cells and has therefore been proposed as the driving force for *** chromosomal instability can arise during mitosis as a result of mis-segregation of the duplicated sister chromatids to the two daughter *** normal cells,missegregation is usually prevented by the spindle assembly checkpoint(SAC),a sophisticated surveillance mechanism that inhibits mitotic exit until all chromosomes have successfully achieved bipolar attachment to spindle *** abrogation of SAC activity is lethal to normal as well as to tumor cells,as a consequence of massive chromosome ***,many human aneuploid tumor cells exhibit a weakened SAC activity that allows them to tolerate gains or losses of a small number of chromosomes;and interfering with this SAC residual activity may constitute a suitable strategy to kill cancer *** review focuses on the potential link between SAC and tumorigenesis,and the therapeutic strategy to target the SAC for cancer treatment.

Highly transparent conductive stoichiometric nanocrystalline stannic oxide coatings were deposited onto Corning®EAGLE XG®slim glass *** each coating,it was deposited for various concentrations in the aerosol solution with the substrate temperature maintained at 623.15 K by an ultrasonic spray pyrolysis(USP)*** was em-ployed both as the solution carrier in addition to aerosol directing gas,maintaining its flow rates at 3500.0 and 500.0 mL/min,*** coatings were polycrystalline,with preferential growth along the stannic oxide(112)plane,irrespective of the molarity content in the spray *** coating prepared at 0.2 M,a concentration in the aerosol solution,showed an average transmission of 60%in the visible light region spectrum with a maximum conductivity of 24.86 S/*** coatings deposited exhibited in the general photoluminescence spectrum emission colors of green,greenish white,and bluish white calculated on the intensities of the excitonic and oxygen vacancy defect level emissions.
