A statistical study on the correlation between sporadic Ca+ layer and Es in Beijing（40.5°N, 116°E）

From April 2020 to June 2022, a Ca+lidar with dual-wavelength and narrow-band emitting lasers utilizing all-solid-state technology was employed to conduct observations in Beijing（40.41°N, 116.01°E） for a total duration of 1797.79 hours over 280 nights. A total of 286 sporadic Ca+layers were observed, with heights ranging from 88 to 120 km and densities varying from 5.33 to 2200 cm-3. We simultaneously observed the ionosonde, located 28 km from the lidar, and found a correlation of 61.89% between the sporadic Ca+ layer and the sporadic E layer. When the sporadic Ca+layer has a downward phase trend, there is a correlation of 76.84%. By excluding the influence of ionosonde sensitivity, we focus only on calcium ions that have a density exceeding 140 cm-3, which exhibit a correlation of82.25%. Above 100 km, the correlation significantly increases, reaching approximately 90%. Furthermore, the correlation between the sporadic Ca+ layer and the sporadic E layer is particularly noticeable during the summer season, reaching around 90%. This phenomenon can be attributed to the variations in metal ions that occur during different seasons.

Stomatal regulation is critical for mangroves to survive in the hyper-saline intertidal zone where water stress is severe and water availability is highly ***,very little is known about the stomatal sensitivity to vapour pressure deficit(VPD)in mangroves,and its co-ordination with stomatal morphology and leaf hydraulic *** measured the stomatal response to a step increase in VPD in situ,stomatal anatomy,leaf hydraulic vulnerability and pressure-volume traits in nine true mangrove species of five families and collected the data of genome *** aimed to answer two questions:(1)Does stomatal morphology influence stomatal dynamics in response to a high VPD in mangroves?with a consideration of possible influence of genome size on stomatal morphology;and(2)do leaf hydraulic traits influence stomatal sensitivity to VPD in mangroves?We found that the stomata of mangrove plants were highly sensitive to a step rise in VPD and the stomatal responses were directly affected by stomatal anatomy and hydraulic ***,denser stomata was correlated with faster stomatal closure at high VPD across the species of Rhizophoraceae,and stomata size negatively and vein density positively correlated with genome *** negative leaf osmotic pressure at the full turgor(πo)was related to higher operating steady-state stomatal conductance(gs);and a higher leaf capacitance(Cleaf)and more embolism resistant leaf xylem were associated with slower stomatal responses to an increase in *** addition,stomatal responsiveness to VPD was indirectly affected by leaf morphological traits,which were affected by site salinity and consequently leaf water *** results demonstrate that mangroves display a unique relationship between genome size,stomatal size and vein packing,and that stomatal responsiveness to VPD is regulated by leaf hydraulic traits and stomatal *** work provides a quantitative framework to better understand of stomatal regulation in mangroves

Emerging and recurrent infectious diseases caused by human coronaviruses(HCoVs)continue to pose a significant threat to global public health *** light of this ongoing threat,the development of a broad-spectrum drug to combat HCoVs is an urgently ***,we report a series of anti-pan-coronavirus ssDNA aptamers screened using Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment(SELEX).These aptamers have nanomolar affinity with the nucleocapsid protein(NP)of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and also show excellent binding efficiency to the N proteins of both SARS,MERS,HCoV-OC43 and-NL63 with affinity KD values of 1.31 to 135.36 *** aptamer-based therapeutics exhibited potent antiviral activity against both the authentic SARS-CoV-2 prototype strain and the Omicron variant(BA.5)with EC50 values at 2.00 nM and 41.08 nM,*** protein docking analysis also evidenced that these aptamers exhibit strong affinities for N proteins of pan-coronavirus and other HCoVs(−229E and-HKU1).In conclusion,we have identified six aptamers with a high pan-coronavirus antiviral activity,which could potentially serve as an effective strategy for preventing infections by unknown coronaviruses and addressing the ongoing global health threat.

weather conditions play a pivotal role in embryo development and parental incubation costs,potentially impacting the clutch size and incubation behavior of *** these effects is crucial for bird ***’ s Pheasant(Syrmaticus reevesii) is a threatened species endemic to China,which is characterized by female-only ***,there is a lack of information regarding the impact of weather conditions on clutch size and incubation behavior in this *** satellite tracking,we tracked 27 wild female Reeves’ s Pheasants from 2020 to 2023 in Hubei Province,*** explored their clutch size and incubation behavior,as well as their responses to ambient temperature and *** size averaged 7.75 ±1.36,had an association with average ambient temperature and average daily precipitation during the egglaying period,and was potentially linked to female breeding *** the incubation period,females took an average of 0.73 ±0.46 recesses every 24 h,with an average recess duration of 100.80 ±73.37 min and an average nest attendance of 92.98 ±5.27%.They showed a unimodal recess pattern in which nest departures peaked primarily between 13:00 and 16:***,females rarely left nests when daily precipitation was *** duration and nest attendance were influenced by the interaction between daily mean ambient temperature and daily precipitation,as well as day of ***,there was a positive correlation between clutch size and recess *** results contribute valuable insights into the lifehistory features of this endangered species.

Understanding the Low Predictability of the 2015/16 El Ni?o Event Based on a Deep Learning Model

The 2015/16 El Ni?o event ranks among the top three of the last 100 years in terms of intensity, but most dynamical models had a relatively low prediction skill for this event before the summer months. Therefore, the attribution of this particular event can help us to understand the cause of super El Ni?o–Southern Oscillation events and how to forecast them skillfully. The present study applies attribute methods based on a deep learning model to study the key factors related to the formation of this event. A deep learning model is trained using historical simulations from 21 CMIP6 models to predict the Ni?o-3.4 index. The integrated gradient method is then used to identify the key signals in the North Pacific that determine the evolution of the Ni?o-3.4 index. These crucial signals are then masked in the initial conditions to verify their roles in the prediction. In addition to confirming the key signals inducing the super El Ni?o event revealed in previous attribution studies, we identify the combined contribution of the tropical North Atlantic and the South Pacific oceans to the evolution and intensity of this event, emphasizing the crucial role of the interactions among them and the North Pacific. This approach is also applied to other El Ni?o events, revealing several new precursor signals. This study suggests that the deep learning method is useful in attributing the key factors inducing extreme tropical climate events.

In order to quantify the influence of external forcings on the predictability limit using observational data,the author introduced an algorithm of the conditional nonlinear local Lyapunov exponent(CNLLE)*** effectiveness of this algorithm is validated and compared with the nonlinear local Lyapunov exponent(NLLE)and signal-to-noise ratio methods using a coupled Lorenz *** results show that the CNLLE method is able to capture the slow error growth constrained by external forcings,therefore,it can quantify the predictability limit induced by the external *** this basis,a preliminary attempt was made to apply this method to measure the influence of ENSO on the predictability limit for both atmospheric and oceanic variable *** spatial distribution of the predictability limit induced by ENSO is similar to that arising from the initial conditions calculated by the NLLE *** similarity supports ENSO as the major predictable signal for weather and climate *** addition,a ratio of predictability limit(RPL)calculated by the CNLLE method to that calculated by the NLLE method was *** RPL larger than 1 indicates that the external forcings can significantly benefit the long-term predictability *** instance,ENSO can effectively extend the predictability limit arising from the initial conditions of sea surface temperature over the tropical Indian Ocean by approximately four months,as well as the predictability limit of sea level pressure over the eastern and western Pacific ***,the impact of ENSO on the geopotential height predictability limit is primarily confined to the troposphere.

The Submerged Floating Tunnel(SFT)relies on a tensioned mooring system for precise *** sudden breakage of a single cable can trigger an immediate alteration in the constraint conditions of the tube,inducing a transient heave response within the structure along with a transient increase in cable tension experienced by adjacent *** more severe cases,this may even lead to a progressive failure culminating in the global destruction of the *** study used ANSYS/AQWA to establish a numerical model of the entire length SFT for the hydrodynamic response analysis,and conducted a coupled calculation of the dynamic responses of the SFT-mooring line model based on Orca Flex to study the global dynamic responses of the SFT at the moment of cable breakage and the redistribution of cable internal *** most unfavorable position for SFT cable breakage was identified,the influence mechanism of cable breakage at different positions on the global dynamic response was revealed,and the progressive chain failure pattern caused by localized cable breakage are also clarified.
