Glutathione-depleted cyclodextrin pseudo-polyrotaxane nanoparticles for anti-inflammatory oxaliplatin(Ⅳ) prodrug delivery and enhanced colorectal cancer therapy

Oxaliplatin(Oxa) is the first-line chemotherapeutic drug for the treatment of colorectal cancer(CRC). However, long-term Oxa chemotherapy can induce inflammation and increase the levels of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and prostaglandin E2(PGE2), which can promote tumor metastasis. Moreover,high glutathione(GSH) levels in CRC cells significantly reduce Oxa sensitivity and seriously restrict the clinical application of Oxa. Herein, an Oxa(Ⅳ) prodrug with anti-inflammatory properties(desmethyl naproxe, DN) and GSH-depleting cyclodextrin pseudo-polyrotaxane carriers were prepared and further self-assembled into micellar nanoparticles(designated DNPt@PPRI). The relesae of DN from DNPt@PPRI can reduce the level of PGE2 to inhibit inflammation and tumor metastasis by decreasing COX-2 protein,and also synergize with Oxa to inhibit tumor. More importantly, GSH depletion can reduce the detoxification of Oxa and further enhance chemotherapy-induced apoptosis. DNPt@PPRI have a good GSH depletion ability to enhance the sensitivity of Oxa, indicating a potential in the synergistic chemotherapy and chemo-sensitization of colorectal cancer.

The Clash of Civilizations and Resolutions

The clash of civilizations is essentially the conflict among individuals from different civilizations. Individuals struggle for access to survival resources, and the scarcity of resources is the fundamental issue. When it becomes difficult to access resources alone, individuals tend to organize themselves in certain ways, and civilization could be one of these ways. However, the conflicts among different civilizations do not arise as easily as Huntington imagines, and the existence of buffer zones between civilizations is one of the factors that constrain conflict. Buffer zones appear with the emergence of civilization boundaries and are clearly visible in macro-and micro- cross-sections. The buffer zones are the concrete expression of knowledge shared by civilizations, and their formation is driven by many factors, such as economy and trade, cultural exchange, interracial neighborhoods, mixed marriages and so on.

Analysis on the Consular Dimension of Sino-Indian Relations

This article explains reasons from the consular perspective why people to people exchange between china and India is not so active. Review of evolution of bilateral consular relations reveals that the basis of cross border personnel exchanges is weak with the closing of consulates of both countries in each other’s territory for nearly three decades. Relatively, small number of Chinese and Indian consular posts in each other’s territory means inconvenience for citizens to apply for visa for visiting the other and seeking consular assistance and protection. Inflexible visa policy of both countries toward citizens of the other party also accounts for the none-activeness. Considering the important role played by civilian exchange in advancing bilateral relations, china and India should establish more consular posts in each other’s territory and further relax visa requirements.

Heroine Hua Mulan

Women began to practice martial skills in a rare atmosphere during the Six Dynasties Period (220-589). Women held high positions among matrilineal clan nationalities. When they came to tlie Central Plains for trade, they displayed their indomitable martial spirit. Some women of noble families mastered superb martial skills and even commanded troops in battles. The leading role of Hua Mulan in the Hollywood animated film Mulan was a famous real heroine in Chinese history. She lived during the Sui Dynasty (589-618). In those years, the tribes from the north often invaded the Central Plains, and the court sent troops to resist the invasions. Because her father was too old, Hua stealthily disguised herself as a young man, so as to join the army on her father's behalf.

china’s Earliest “Hidden Weapon”

In ancient times, people in china used a him ting weapon called a bolas. It was a long rope with one end tied to a stone ball. The hunter, with the other end tied around his arm, would capture the wild animal by casting the stone ball toward the animal as he approached it. When thrown, the hunting weapon would entangle the animal s leg, thus tripping tlie animal. This ancient rope was the embryonic foiin of the wushu lasso weapons used by the later generations.
