Effects of herbicide butachlor application on the growth of periphytic biofilms and nitrogen loss in paddy systems

The application of butachlor as an herbicide in paddy fields is widely practiced,aiming to increase rice yield by directly or indirectly influencing the paddy *** biofilms,which form at the soil-water interface in paddy fields,are complex bioaggregates that play an important role in nitrogen (N) *** objective of this study was to investigate the effect of butachlor on periphytic biofilm growth and N cycling under both light and dark conditions in the *** results revealed that butachlor application hindered the growth of periphytic biofilms and led to the dominance of Cyanobacteria as the primary prokaryotes,while inhibiting the development of eukaryotic ***,the application of butachlor reduced the richness and diversity of prokaryotes,but increased those of eukaryotes in periphytic *** light treatments exhibited higher total N loss because light favored periphytic biofilm growth and enhanced ammonium (NH_(4)^(+)) assimilation and ***,butachlor application resulted in the increased retention of NH_(4)^(+)-N and nitrate (NO_(3)^(-))-N and an increase in N loss via *** abundances of functional genes encoding enzymes such as ammonia monooxygenase,nitrite reductase,and nitrous oxide reductase were increased by butachlor application,favoring nitrification and denitrification ***,the results suggest that butachlor application leads to an increase in total N loss mainly through denitrification in paddy systems,particularly in the presence of periphytic ***,the results may provide valuable insights into the changes in periphytic biofilm growth and N cycling induced by butachlor,and future studies can further explore the potential implications of these changes in paddy soils.

When zero-valent iron(ZVI)is prepared and applied under neutral conditions,it is easy to form oxides or hydroxides on its surface,which hinders the electron release of *** this end,a nucleophile was introduced into the ZVI system to inhibit the precipitation of iron ions,improve the conductivity of the solution,and promote the removal efficiency of electrophilic functional groups in organic *** this study,the addition of nucleophiles such as ethylenediamine,methylamine and dimethylamine to the ZVI/H_(2)O_(2)system resulted in an enhanced removal efficiency of tetracycline(TC)under neutral condition,while electrophiles such as EDTA-2Na and oxalic acid dihydrate impeded the removal of *** results demonstrated that the presence of nucleophiles could effectively promote the release of iron ions and increase the proportion of ferrous in both aqueous solution and solid surface of *** and theoretical calculation results revealed that the electrophilic functional group was eliminated in the TC molecule,and the toxicity of the treated solution was reduced ***,this work provides a selection of the conditions and pollutants applicable to ZVI under neutral pH conditions.

Unique Azolyl Acylhydrazonyl Hybridization of Aloe Emodins to Access Potential Antibacterial Agents

A type of unique azole-hybridized acylhydrazonyl aloe emodins(AAEs)were developed as new antibacterial agents for combating bacterial *** target AAEs showed strong antibacterial activities,especially,tetrazolylthioether AAE 27a exhibited broad antibacterial spectrum with 16-256 folds and 8-64 folds more active antibacterial efficacy than the reference drugs aloe emodin and norfloxacin,*** AAE 27a also gave low hemolysis and cytotoxicity,as well as favorable *** mechanism explorations revealed that tetrazolylthioether AAE 27a could cause bacterial membrane depolarization and damage the cell membrane,resulting in nucleic acid ***,compound 27a could intercalate into DNA to impede its replication and form supramolecular 27a-DNA gyrase complex to disturb the function of DNA *** findings would provide valuable insights for the further exploration of azolyl acylhydrazonyl aloe emodins as new potential antibacterial candidates.

In the endeavor of searching for highly active and stable electrocatalysts toward overall water splitting,high-entropy-alloys have been the intense subjects owing to their advanced physicochemical *** non-noble metal free-standing multiscale porous NiFeCoZn high-entropy-alloy is in situ constructed on the surface layer of NiZn intermetallic and Ni heterojunction over nickel foam(NiFeCoZn/NiZn-Ni/NF)by one scalable dealloying protocal to fulfill the outstanding bifunctional electrocatalytic performances toward overall water *** of the high-entropy effects and specific hierarchical porous architecture,the as-made NiFeCoZn/NiZn-Ni/NF displays high intrinsic catalytic activities and durability toward both hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in alkaline *** particular,the in-situ construction of bimodal porous NiFeCoZn high-entropy-alloy results in the small overpotentials(η1000=254/409 mV for HER and OER),low Tafel slopes,and exceptional long-term catalytic durability for 400 ***,the electrolyzer constructed with NiFeCoZn/NiZn-Ni/NF as both cathode and anode exhibits a low cell voltage of 1.72 V to deliver the current density of 500 mA·cm^(–2) for overall water *** work not only provides a facile and scalable protocol for the preparation of self-supporting high-entropy-alloy nanocatalysts but also enlightens the engineering of high performance bifunctional electrocatalysts toward water splitting.

Understanding livelihood vulnerability:a perspective from Western Sichuan’s ethnic rural settings

To explore the livelihood status and key influencing factors of rural households in the minority areas,we collected flat data from 284 rural households in 32 villages across 12 counties of Western Sichuan from 2021 to *** conducted participatory household survey on the livelihood status of the rural households and try to identify the key factors to influence their livelihood vulnerability using multiple linear *** results showed that:the livelihood situation of the rural households is relatively *** vulnerability varies significantly with the income levels,education levels,and income *** vulnerability of farm households,categorized from low to high livelihood types,follows the sequence:non-agricultural dominant households,non-agricultural households,agricultural dominant households,and pure agricultural *** degree of damage to the natural environment,education costs,loan opportunities,the proportion of agricultural income to annual household income,and the presence of sick people in the household have significant positive effects on the livelihood vulnerability index(LVI)of rural households;while help from relatives and friends,net income per capita,household size,household education,agricultural land area,participation in industrial organizations,number of livestock,purchase of commercial houses,drinking water source,and self-supply of food have significant negative *** on the findings,we believe that local rural households operate in a complex livelihood system and recommend continuous interventions targeting key influences to provide empirical research support for areas facing similar situations.

Cratonic Strike-Slip Faults in the southwest Ordos Basin(Central China)， and Their Influence on Hydrocarbon Accumulation

Cratonic strike-slip fault， despite its potentially significant influence on hydrocarbon accumulation， has attracted limited attention. This study investigates the geometry and kinematics of the cratonic strike-slip faults newly identified within the southwest Ordos Basin， Central China， based on 3D seismic reflection data. We recognized three dominant sets of faults with strike-slip nature trending respectively in NW， ENE， and N–S directions in the study area. These faults exhibit a stratified style characterized by distinct trends across various strata， with ENE-trending faults in the Mesozoic strata (Area A)， N-S-trending faults in the Paleozoic strata， and vertically discontinuous structures in the Mesozoic and Paleozoic strata (NW-trending Yudu fault zone and ENE-trending Yulinzi and Zaosheng fault zones). The contrasting kinematics of strike-slip faults observed in deep and shallow layers further confirm such fault stratification， suggesting isolated fault evolution within respective layers. The quantified fault parameters obtained from seismic reflection data， including length， width and displacement， suggest that these cratonic strike-slip faults in the Ordos Basin are immature. Comparisons with strike-slip faults in other cratonic basins and active tectonic settings suggest that the strike-slip faults within the Ordos Basin are representative of cratonic strike-slip faults， characterized by low maturity and a stratified faulting style， and they have special propagation mechanism (preferentially occurring in the shallow strata of the interior of the basin). Moreover， these fault characteristics have dual impacts on petroleum accumulation in the southwest Ordos Basin. The low faulty maturity makes the fault zone a special hydrocarbon reservoir (fault-fracture volume) in tight sandstone， while the stratified faulting style vertically separates the Mesozoic and Paleozoic petroleum systems in the southwest Ordos Basin. Strategies for improving crop comprehensive benefits via a decision-making system based on machine learning in the rice‒rape,rice‒wheat and rice‒garlic rotation systems in southwest China

Rice‒rape,rice‒wheat and rice‒garlic rotations are common cropping systems in southwest China,and they have played a significant role in ensuring ecological and economic benefits(EB)and addressing the challenges of China’s food security in the ***,the crop yields in these rotation systems are 1.25‒14.73%lower in this region than the national *** decision-making with machine learning can analyze the key factors for obtaining better benefits,but it has rarely been used to enhance the probability of obtaining such benefits from rotations in southwest ***,we used a data-intensive approach to construct an intelligent decision‒making system with machine learning to provide strategies for improving the benefits of rice-rape,rice-wheat,and rice-garlic rotations in southwest *** results show that raising the yield and partial fertilizer productivity(PFP)by increasing seed input under high fertilizer application provided the optimal benefits with a 10%probability in the rice-garlic *** high yields and greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions by increasing the N application and reducing the K application provided suboptimal benefits with an 8%probability in the rice-rape *** N and P to enhance PFP and yield provided optimal benefits with the lowest probability(8%)in the rice‒wheat *** on the predictive analysis of a random forest model,the optimal benefits were obtained with fertilization regimes by reducing N by 25%and increasing P and K by 8 and 74%,respectively,in the rice-garlic system,reducing N and K by 54 and by 36%,respectively,and increasing P by 38%in rice-rape system,and reducing N by 4%and increasing P and K by 65 and 23%in rice-wheat *** strategies could be further optimized by 17‒34%for different benefits,and all of these measures can improve the effectiveness of the crop rotation systems to varying ***,these findings provide insights into optimal agricultural inputs for higher be
