Organic long-persistent luminescence(LPL)materials,featuring low preparation cost,eco-friendly synthesis,and easy modification of functional groups,have exhibited extensive applications in information encryption,anti-counterfeiting,and biological *** design strategies including crystallization-inducement,H-aggregation,and host-guest doping to enhance persistent-room-temperature phosphorescence(RTP)effect by precisely controlling intersystem crossing(ISC)constant and suppressing nonradiative decay rates,those are important strategies to enable LPL *** the strategies,researchers have made several efforts to enhance persistent-RTP effect by host-guest interaction,in which the host matrices provide a rigid environment for phosphor guest *** interaction of the luminescent guest molecules with the host matrix can effectively reduce the vibration and rotation of the luminescent molecules,and suppress the non-radiative inactivation,thereby improving the phosphorescence quantum *** review aims to summarize several design strategies of pure organic LPL materials based on persistent-RTP effect through host-guest interaction,and describe some applications of pure organic LPL materials in different fields.

Mowing and fertilizer effects on seedling establishment in a successional old field

Aims We used a 10-year field experiment that consisted of mowing and fertilizer treatments to evaluate the role of niche limitation in seedling establishment of species from different functional groups and of varying local abundance in an old field undergoing *** Seedlings of nine different species were planted into a successional field subjected to mowing and fertilizer treatments for 10 years that resulted in different plant communities and resource *** representative of the factorial combination of three functional groups(C4 grasses,C3 grasses and legumes)and three abundance categories(abundant,present,or absent in the old field)were planted in four treatments resulting from the factorial combination of annual spring mowing(mowed and unmowed)and fertilizer application(annually fertilized and unfertilized).Survivorship,relative growth rate(RGR)and biomass were measured to determine the role of niche limitation on recruitment and *** Findings Mowing increased the establishment success of *** had little influence on seedling performance and survivorship.C3 grasses had the highest survivorship,while C4 grasses and legumes had equivalent RGRs,but higher than C3 *** contrast,survivorship of legumes was unrelated to mowing or fertilizer,suggesting that establishment of this functional group was dependent on other,unmeasured conditions or *** already present,but at low abundance,performed better than locally abundant or absent *** limitation may restrict the arrival of a ***,recruitment and establishment was subject to niche limitation,which varied among species,functional groups and whether a species is already resident at the site and its ***,species interactions restrict establishment during old-field succession,supporting the niche limitation hypothesis.

Concurrent mining and reclamation for underground coal mining subsidence impacts in China

Large scale underground mining of coal resources in China using longwall mining has resulted in ecological and environment problems, including surface subsidence that is considered serious due to competing interests of prime agricultural lands, food security, and regional economic development. The subsided lands must be rehabilitated soon after mining to be agriculturally productive to minimize loss of farmland. Similarly, precious water resources must also be managed during and after mining to protect this natural resource. Toward these goals, the concept of ＂Concurrent mining and subsidence reclamation （CMR）＂ was proposed by Professor Hu of the China university of Mining and Technology, Beijing （CUMTB）. Over the last two decades CMR concepts have evolved and successfully applied in the field in different parts of China. This innovative technology has increased available farmland during the mining process, and provided better land protection and food security in mining areas even with high groundwater table. The technology has been used in 5 of the 14 large coal bases in China. This paper describes the technology concepts, design and guiding principles for planning with two case studies from different regions to enhance its application both in China and in other countries.

A cost-effective chemo-thermo-poroelastic wellbore stability model for mud weight design during drilling through shale formations

Effects of particle composition and environmental parameters on catalytic hydrodechlorination of trichloroethylene by nanoscale bimetallic Ni-Fe

Catalytic nickel was successfully incorporated into nanoscale iron to enhance its dechlorination efficiency for trichloroethylene （TCE）, one of the most commonly detected chlorinated organic compounds in groundwater. Ethane was the predominant product. The greatest dechlorination efficiency was achieved at 22 molar percent of nickel. This nanoscale Ni-Fe is poorly ordered and inhomogeneous; iron dissolution occurred whereas nickel was relatively stable during the 24-hr reaction. The morphological characterization provided significant new insights on the mechanism of catalytic hydrodcchlorination by bimetallic nanoparticles. TCE degradation and ethane production rates were greatly affected by environmental parameters such as solution pH, temperature and common groundwater ions. Both rate constants decreased and then increased over the pH range of 6.5 to 8.0, with the minimum value occurring at pH 7.5. TCE degradation rate constant showed an increasing trend over the temperature range of 10 to 25℃. However, ethane production rate constant increased and then decreased over the range, with the maximum value occurring at 20℃, Most salts in the solution appeared to enhance the reaction in the first half hour but overall they displayed an inhibitory effect. Combined ions showed a similar effect as individual salts.

Validation of critical strain technique for assessing stability of coal mine intersections and its potential for development of roof control plans

Both room-and-pillar and longwall mining systems develop underground excavations whose stability must be ensured over their entire service life. Even though rock bolts have been extensively used as a support element in US coal mines for about 40 years, limited research has been conducted in quantifying its composite reinforcement effects. Recently, the authors suggested an approach to quantify the reinforcement effect of roof supports over a designated area based on critical failure strains in tension, compression and shear. This paper validates the critical strain technique(CST) using a case study and justifies the magnitude of selected critical strain by corroborating with the US roof fall statistics. Intersections are vulnerable to failure due to the larger exposed roof span and associated stress concentrations. Through numerical application of the CST to a case study, it was demonstrated that modifying the opening orientation and installing reinforcement at critical locations can help to improve the overall stability of intersections.

Management of coal processing wastes： studies on an alternate technology for control of sulfate and chloride discharge

Management of coal mining and coal processing wastes, particularly of high sulfur coals, can generate excessive amounts of sulfate （SO4^2-） and chloride （Cl^-） in mine drainage that are known to negatively impact quality of both surface and ground water. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provides guidance to states on allowable SO4^2- and Cl^- discharges from mine sites. This research evaluates the hypothesis that co-disposal of CCPW and FCPW with appropriate compaction can result in improved geochemical and geotechnical environments that will minimize acid mine drainage formation and SO4^2- and Cl^- discharges. Addition of ground limestone （ag-lime） to the mix was also evaluated as a drying agent and for improvement in overall geochemistry by buffering higher pH values within the coal waste. These objectives were to develop and implement innovative concepts for engineered co-management of CCPW and FCPW at coal mining sites. The authors performed long-term field column leaching studies to analyze improvement in SO4^2- and Cl^- in water quality. Requirements for stricter standards in some states led to the need for development of potentially improved environmental practices. This paper presents the overall encouraging results of the field kinetic studies.

Aqua-ammonia pretreatment of corn stover was provided in a 1.2 L high pressure reactor with two ammonia:biomass ratios of 1:1(w/w)and 2:1(w/w);at three temperatures:60℃,90℃and 120℃,and two treatment time:5 min and 30 *** with water was used as *** pretreated samples were saccharified to fermentable sugars by commercial enzymes ACCELERASE 1500(cellulase)and ACCELERASE XC(xylanases).For ammonia:biomass ratio of 1:1,the yield of total fermentable sugar was 87%at 90℃for 30 min *** case of ammonia:biomass ratio of 2:1,fermentable sugar yield increased four fold of that of *** fermentable sugar yield of 99%was obtained for 2:1 ammonia:biomass ratio,90℃,and 30 min treatment *** results of this study are very promising for improving fermentable sugar yield from corn stover using smaller amount of ammonia than the ammonia fiber explosion and other pretreatments such as strong acid or alkali ***,further optimization is required for reducing pretreatment time.

Estimating aboveground biomass of Pinus densata-dominated forests using Landsat time series and permanent sample plot data
