The coexistence of cadmium(Cd(Ⅱ))and arsenate(As(Ⅴ))pollution has long been an environmental ***,a porous carbonaceous material with tunable functionality,has been used for the remediation of contaminated ***,it is still challenging for the dynamic quantification and mechanistic understanding of the simultaneous sequestration of multi-metals in biochar-engineered environment,especially in the presence of *** this study,ferrihydrite was coprecipitated with biochar to investigate how ferrihydritebiochar composite affects the fate of heavy metals,especially in the coexistence of Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ).In the solution system containing both Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ),the maximum adsorption capacities of ferrihydrite-biochar composite for Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ)reached 82.03μmol/g and 531.53μmol/g,respectively,much higher than those of the pure biochar(26.90μmol/g for Cd(Ⅱ),and 40.24μmol/g for As(Ⅴ))and ferrihydrite(42.26μmol/g for Cd(Ⅱ),and 248.25μmol/g for As(Ⅴ)).Cd(Ⅱ)adsorption increased in the presence of As(Ⅴ),possibly due to the changes in composite surface charge in the presence of As(Ⅴ),and the increased dispersion of ferrihydrite by *** microscopic and mechanistic results showed that Cd(Ⅱ)complexed with both biochar and ferrihydrite,while As(Ⅴ)was mainly complexed by ferrihydrite in the Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ)coexistence *** posed vital importance for the co-adsorption of Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ).The different distribution patterns revealed by this study help to a deeper understanding of the behaviors of cations and anions in the natural environment.

The objective of this study consisted of evaluating the effect of the application of chitosan (Q), 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) under two controlled temperatures on some physical, physiological, and chemical parameters contributing to the quality of Persian lime Citrus latifolia fruits. Eight treatments were evaluated, resulting from the combination of four senescence retardant applications (Q, 1-MCP, 1-MCP + Q, and without application) on fruits stored at two temperatures (12/20 degrees C). Epidermis color (luminosity, chromaticity, and hue), fruit appearance, respiration, weight loss, total juice content, total soluble solids, and titratable acidity were registered during the study. The results indicate that the 1-MCP and Q combination favored fruit postharvest quality conditions such as reducing respiration rate; maintaining fruit good appearance, turgidity, and brighter fruit chromaticity; fruits treated with chitosan and stored at 12 degrees C, favored total soluble solids. On the other hand, Variables such as weight loss, juice content, acidity, phenols, flavonoids, antioxidant activity, and hue values were favored by a 12 degrees C storing temperature regardless of the treatment. In general, the use of modified atmospheres, senescence retardants, and refrigeration as postharvest methods, can increase Persian lime shelf life.

Background Goose, descendants of migratory ancestors, have undergone extensive selective breeding, resulting in their remarkable ability to accumulate fat in the liver and exhibit a high tolerance for significant energy intake. As a result, goose offers an excellent model for studying obesity, metabolic disorders, and liver diseases in mammals. Although the impact of the three-dimensional arrangement of chromatin within the cell nucleus on gene expression and transcriptional regulation is widely acknowledged, the precise functions of chromatin architecture reorganization during fat deposition in goose liver tissues still need to be fully *** In this study, geese exhibited more pronounced changes in the liver index and triglyceride(TG) content following the consumption of the high-fat diet(HFD) than mice without significant signs of inflammation. Additionally, we performed comprehensive analyses on 10 goose liver tissues(5 HFD, 5 normal), including generating highresolution maps of chromatin architecture, conducting whole-genome gene expression profiling, and identifying H3K27ac peaks in the livers of geese and mice subjected to the HFD. Our results unveiled a multiscale restructuring of chromatin architecture, encompassing Compartment A/B, topologically associated domains, and interactions between promoters and enhancers. The dynamism of the three-dimensional genome architecture, prompted by the HFD, assumed a pivotal role in the transcriptional regulation of crucial genes. Furthermore, we identified genes that regulate chromatin conformation changes, contributing to the metabolic adaptation process of lipid deposition and hepatic fat changes in geese in response to excessive energy intake. Moreover, we conducted a cross-species analysis comparing geese and mice exposed to the HFD, revealing unique characteristics specific to the goose liver compared to a mouse. This research delves into the hurdles and strategies aimed at augmenting the market involvement of smallholder carrot farmers in Nakuru County, Kenya. Employing a Multinomial Logit (MNL) model, it scrutinizes the factors influencing the selection of marketing outlets among carrot farmers. The findings unveil that a significant majority (81%) of surveyed farmers actively participate in diverse market outlets, encompassing the farm gate, cleaning point, local market, external market, and export market. Notably, pivotal buyers include aggregators, brokers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers, with transactions predominantly occurring at the farm level. Additionally, the analysis discerns substantial influences of socio-economic characteristics, experiential factors, and geographical proximity on farmers’ choices of market outlets. Specifically, gender, age, land size, farming experience, and distance to markets emerge as critical determinants. Moreover, the study delves into the examination of market margins along the carrot value chain, shedding light on the potential profitability of carrot farming in the region. Remarkably, higher average gross margins are identified in export and external markets, signaling lucrative prospects for farmers targeting these segments. However, disparities in profit distribution between farmers and traders underscore the necessity for interventions to ensure equitable value distribution throughout the value chain. These findings underscore the imperative for tailored interventions to tackle challenges and foster inclusive agricultural development. Strategies such as farmer organizations, contracting, and vertical integration are advocated to enhance market access and profitability for smallholder carrot farmers. Thus, this study enriches our comprehension of the dynamics within carrot value chains and provides valuable insights for policymakers and development practitioners aiming to uplift rural livelihoods and bolster food security.

Weaning piglets usually suffer from severe diarrhea(commonly known as postweaning diarrhea,PWD)along with intestinal motility *** peristalsis is mainly regulated by the longitudinal muscle-myenteric plexus(LM-MP).To understand the relationship between intestinal LM-MP function and the development of PWD,we compared the intestinal electrical activity,and the transcriptional profile of the LM-MP between 21-day-old piglets(just weaned,n=7)and 24-day-old piglets(suffered the most severe weaning stress,n=7).The results showed that 24-day-old piglets exhibited different degrees of diarrhea.A significant increase in the slow-wave frequency in the ileum and colon was observed in 24-day-old piglets,while c-kit expression in the intestinal LM-MPs was significantly decreased,indicating that PWD caused by elevated slow-wave frequency may be associated with loss of *** real-time quantitative PCR(RT-q PCR)and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)showed that intestinal LM-MPs in 24-day-old piglets may undergo inflammation and oxidative *** increases in 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine and decreases in thioredoxin suggest that weaning may lead to DNA damage in the LM-MP of 24-day-old *** addition,activating transcription factor 3 was significantly upregulated,indicating nerve damage in the LM-MP of 24-day-old *** transcriptomic results showed that most of the differentially expressed genes in the ileal LM-MP after weaning were downregulated and closely related to the cell cycle *** RT-q PCR analysis showed that the relative expression of p21 was upregulated,while the expression of cyclin A2,cyclin B1,and proliferating cell nuclear antigen was downregulated in the ileal and colonic LM-MP of 24-day-old piglets,suggesting that weaning may inhibit cell proliferation and cause G1/S cell cycle arrest in ileal and colonic *** conclusion,weaning may lead to cell cycle arrest by causing DNA damage in the LM-MP,impairing i
