Improvement of the Bayesian neural network to study the photoneutron yield cross sections

This work is an attempt to improve the Bayesian neural network (BNN) for studying photoneutron yield cross sections as a function of the charge number Z, mass number A, and incident energy ε. The BNN was improved in terms of three aspects:numerical parameters, input layer, and network structure. First, by minimizing the deviations between the predictions and data, the numerical parameters, including the hidden layer number, hidden node number, and activation function, were selected. It was found that the BNN with three hidden layers, 10 hidden nodes, and sigmoid activation function provided the smallest deviations. Second, based on known knowledge,such as the isospin dependence and shape effect, the optimal ground-state properties were selected as input neurons. Third, the Lorentzian function was applied to map the hidden nodes to the output cross sections, and the empirical formula of the Lorentzian parameters was applied to link some of the input nodes to the output cross sections. It was found that the last two aspects improved the predictions and avoided overfitting, especially for the axially deformed nucleus.

β-decay half-life and β-delayed neutron emission(βn) are of great importance in the development of basic science and industrial applications, such as nuclear physics and nuclear energy, where β--decay plays an important role. Many theoretical models have been proposed to describe β-decay half-lives, whereas the systematic study of βn is still rare. This study aimed to investigate β--decay half-lives and βn probabilities through analytical formulas and by comparing them with experimental data. Analytical formulas for β--decay properties have been proposed by considering prominent factors, that is, decay energy,odevity, and the shell effect. The bootstrap method was used to simultaneously evaluate the total uncertainty on calculations,which was composed of statistic and systematic uncertainties. β--decay half-lives, βn probabilities, and the corresponding uncertainties were evaluated for the neutron-rich region. The experimental half-lives were well reproduced. Additional predictions are also presented with theoretical uncertainties, which helps to better understand the disparity between the experimental and theoretical results.

In the present study,samples of a titanium carbide nanoparticle-reinforced nickel alloy(Ni-TiC_(NP)composite)were irradiated with 1 MeV He ions at 700°*** evolution of He bubbles and nanohardness was characterized using transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and nanoindentation,*** images showed that the size and number density of He bubbles in the grains were affected by the He ion *** number density first increased significantly and then decreased with increasing ion dose,while the size exhibited an inverse ***,the swelling induced by He bubbles continuously increased with increasing ion *** bubbles also formed in the grain boundaries,interior of the TiC nanoparticles,and interfaces between the TiC nanoparticles and Ni *** measurements indicated a decrease in nanohardness after irradiation,which is attributed to the disappearance of intrinsic dislocation lines caused by He ion irradiation.

Repelling effects of Mg on diffusion of He atoms towards surface in SiC: Irradiation and annealing experiments combined with first-principles calculations

In this study,the effects of Mg on the formation of He bubbles and diffusion behavior of He atoms in cubic silicon carbide(3C–SiC)were investigated by irradiation and annealing experiments as well as first-principles *** results indicated that two damage bands were formed in He&Mg irradiated *** annealing,Mg could prevent He atoms from diffusing to the surface,resulting in the formation of the He bubbles in the deeper areas far from Mg-implanted regions,which is helpful in avoiding surface ***-principles calculations were then performed to explore the effects of Mg on the He behavior in *** solution energy,binding energy charge density,bond length,and crystal orbital Hamiltonian population of these elements were calculated to identify their *** results suggested that the binding capacity between He and Mg was weak,and Mg could increase the diffusion energy barrier of *** initio molecular dynamics(AIMD)simulation showed that Mg could make He in a high-energy unstable state,and force He atom to move toward the vacancy away from Mg,which explains the experimental results.

Lithium–sulfur batteries have great potential for high energy applications due to their high capacities,low cost and eco-friendliness. However, the particularly rapid capacity decay owing to the dissolution and diffusion of polysulfide intermediate into the electrolyte still hamper their practical *** the reported preparation procedures to sulfur based cathode materials are often complex, and hence are rather difficult to produce at large scale. Here, we report a simple mechano-chemical sulfurization methodology in vacuum environment applying ball-milling method combined both the chemical and physical interaction for the one-pot synthesis of edge-sulfurized grapheme nanoplatelets with 3D porous foam structure as cathode materials. The optimal sample of 70%S–Gn Ps-48 h(ball-milled 48 h) obtains 13.2 wt% sulfur that chemically bonded onto the edge of Gn Ps. And the assembled batteries exhibit high initial discharge capacities of 1089 mAh/g at 0.1 C and 950 mAh/g at 0.5 C, and retain a stable discharge capacity of 776 mAh/g after 250 cycles at 0.5 C with a high Coulombic efficiency of over 98%. The excellent performance is mainly attributed to the mechano-chemical interaction between sulfur and grapheme nanoplatelets. This definitely triggers the currently extensive research in lithium–sulfur battery area.

The toroidal order of electric dipoles in ferroelectric materials has attracted attention in the past decade due to fascinating properties and great potential for enabling novel memory devices,and functional devices in ***,facile manipulation of toroidal order in ferroelectrics remains ***,using first-principles derived simulations,we demonstrate an efficient scheme to control the polar-toroidal multi-order(PTMO)states in ferroelectric *** feasible strategies of controlling PTMO states by a combination of homogeneous electric field and torque are carried out in ferroelectric/paraelectric composite *** is possible based on trilinear coupling between polarization,toroidization and the twist *** a result,switching of the toroidization of the nanowire can be readily achieved by reversal of the axial *** torque threshold needed to control PTMO states is also calculated and found to be relatively small,indicating the feasibility of this *** study demonstrates facile control of PTMO states,including ferroelectric skyrmions,in ferroelectrics and is a step towards designing ferroelectric devices based on multi-order states.
