BACKGROUND Intestinal dysbiosis has been shown to be associated with the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease(ALD), which includes changes in the microbiota composition and bacterial overgrowth, but an effective microbe-based therapy is lacking. Pediococcus pentosaceus(P. pentosaceus) CGMCC 7049 is a newly isolated strain of probiotic that has been shown to be resistant to ethanol and bile salts. However, further studies are needed to determine whether P. pentosaceus exerts a protective effect on ALD and to elucidate the potential *** To evaluate the protective effect of the probiotic P. pentosaceus on ethanol-induced liver injury in *** A new ethanol-resistant strain of P. pentosaceus CGMCC 7049 was isolated from healthy adults in our laboratory. The chronic plus binge model of experimental ALD was established to evaluate the protective effects. Twenty-eight C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into three groups: The control group received a pairfed control diet and oral gavage with sterile phosphate buffered saline, the EtOH group received a ten-day Lieber-DeCarli diet containing 5% ethanol and oral gavage with phosphate buffered saline, and the P. pentosaceus group received a 5% ethanol Lieber-DeCarli diet but was treated with P. pentosaceus. One dose of isocaloric maltose dextrin or ethanol was administered by oral gavage on day 11, and the mice were sacrificed nine hours later. Blood and tissue samples(liver and gut) were harvested to evaluate gut barrier function and liver injury-related parameters. BACKGROUND Enema administration is a common procedure in the emergency department(ED). However, several published case reports on enema-related ischemic colitis(IC) have raised the concerns regarding the safety of enema agents. Nevertheless, information on its true incidence and characteristics are still *** To investigate the incidence, timing, and risk factors of IC in patients receiving *** We consecutively collected the data of all adult patients receiving various enema administrations in the ED from January 2010 to December 2018 and identified patients confirmed with IC following enema. Of 8320 patients receiving glycerin enema, 19 diagnosed of IC were compared with an age-matched control group without *** The incidence of IC was 0.23% among 8320 patients receiving glycerin enema;however, there was no occurrence of IC among those who used other enema agents. The mean age ± standard deviation(SD) of patients with glycerin enemarelated IC was 70.2 ± 11.7. The mean time interval ± SD from glycerin enema administration to IC occurrence was 5.5 h ± 3.9 h(range 1-15 h). Of the 19 glycerin enema-related IC cases, 15(79.0%) were diagnosed within 8 h. The independent risk factors for glycerin-related IC were the constipation score [Odds ratio(OR), 2.0;95% confidence interval(CI): 1.1-3.5, P = 0.017] and leukocytosis(OR, 4.5;95%CI: 1.4-14.7, P = 0.012).CONCLUSION The incidence of glycerin enema-related IC was 0.23% and occurred mostly in the elderly in the early period following enema administration. Glycerin enemarelated IC was associated with the constipation score and leukocytosis.

Background Although elderly patients have been included in published series of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation （AF）, clinicalbenefit and safety remain still less defined in this population. A retrospective analysis of the results of catheter ablation for AF in a large volumecenter focused on comparison of elderly patients with the rest of the patient cohort was conducted in this study. Methods Consecutive patientswho underwent catheter ablation for AF between January 2001 and December 2016 were analysed. A total population of 3197 patients wasdichotomized by the age of 70 years （394 elderly vs. 2803 younger subjects）. Patients were followed in terms of arrhythmia status and sur-vival for a median period of 18 vs. 21 and 35 vs. 57 months, respectively. Results Elderly patients were more frequently females （49% vs.29%, P 〈 0.0001）, had a history of hypertension （79% vs. 57%, P 〈 0.0001）, diabetes （16% vs. 11%, P 〈 0.01）, stroke （9% vs. 6%, P 〈 0.01）,coronary/peripheral artery disease （14% vs. 8%, P 〈 0.0001）, and CHAzDS2-VASc score （3.1 ± 1.3 vs. 1.5 ± 1.2 s, P 〈 0.0001）. Major com-plications were more frequent in elderly （5.3% vs. 3.2%, P = 0.03）; however, this difference was driven by vascular complications （3.6% vs.1.9%, P = 0.04）. There were comparable rates of cerebrovascular （0.3 vs. 0.3%） or nonvascular complications （1.8 vs. 1.2%）. Good arrhyth-mia control was inferior in elderly patients as compared with the rest of the cohort, both without and with antiarrhythmic drugs： 44.2% vs.58.2% （P 〈 0.0001） and 78.2 vs. 83.2% （P 〈 0.01）, respectively. Poor arrhythmia control was associated with relative risk of all-cause mor-tality of 2.7 （95% CI： 1.1-6.4） in elderly patients and 1.4 （95% CI： 0.9-2.0） in younger subjects. Conclusions Catheter ablation for AF inelderly patients is safe although somewhat less effective. Good arrhythmia control is associated with better survival, especially in elderly patients.

The ZNF804 A variant rs1344706 has consistently been associated with schizophrenia and plays a role in hippocampal-prefrontal functional connectivity during working memory. Whether the effect exists in the resting state and in patients with schizophrenia remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the ZNF804 A polymorphism at rs1344706 in 92 schizophrenic patients and 99 healthy controls of Han Chinese descent, and used resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging to explore the functional connectivity in the participants. We found a significant main effect of genotype on the resting-state functional connectivity（RSFC） between the hippocampus and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex（DLPFC） in both schizophrenic patients and healthy controls. The homozygous ZNF804 A rs1344706 genotype（AA） conferred a high risk of schizophrenia, and also exhibited significantly decreased resting functional coupling between the left hippocampus and right DLPFC（F（2,165） = 13.43,P ／ 0.001）. The RSFC strength was also correlated with cognitive performance and the severity of psychosis in schizophrenia. The current findings identified the neural impact of the ZNF804 A rs1344706 on hippocampalprefrontal RSFC associated with schizophrenia.
