An overview of potential cardioprotective benefits of xanthophylls in atherosclerosis:an evidence-based review

Atherosclerosis,as the most prevalent form of cardiovascular disease,is characterized by oxidized lowdensity lipoprotein(ox-LDL)accumulation in the vascular wall,increased inflammation of the large arteries,dysfunction of the endothelial cells(ECs)and vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs),which may eventually lead to the formation of ***,one of the main groups of carotenoids,have been proposed as preventive agents or adjunct therapies to prevent and slow the progression of atherosclerosis due to their cardioprotective ***,the underlying preventive mechanism of action of xanthophylls on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis remains unclear,and clinical evidence of the effect of xanthophylls on atherosclerosis have not yet been summarized and critically *** this regard,we conducted a comprehensive literature search in four scientific databases(Pub Med,Google Scholar,Science Direct and Web of Science)and carefully analyzed the existing evidence to provide meaningful insights on the association between xanthophylls and atherosclerosis from various *** on the evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies,we explored several potential mechanisms,including antioxidant effect,anti-inflammatory effect,regulation of lipid metabolism,and modulation of ECs and VSMCs dysfunction,and we found that a clear picture of regulatory pathways of xanthophylls on atherosclerosis prevention and treatment is still *** addition,epidemiological studies suggested the possible relationship among high dietary intake of xanthophylls,high plasma/serum xanthophylls and a reduced risk of *** evidence from interventional studies investigating the effect of xanthophylls on atherosclerosis is very sparse,whilst indirect clinical evidence was only limited to astaxanthin and ***,well-designed long-term randomized controlled trials(RCTs)are highly recommended for future studies to investigate the effective dose of different

Earthquakes pose significant perils to the built environment in urban *** avert the calamitous aftermath of earthquakes,it is imperative to construct seismic resilient *** to the intricacy of the concept of urban seismic resilience(USR),its assessment is a large-scale system engineering *** assessment of USR should be based on the notion of urban seismic capacity(USC)assessment,which includes casualties,economic loss,and recovery time as *** loss is also included in the assessment of USR in addition to these *** assessment indicator system comprising five dimensions(building and lifeline infrastructure,environment,society,economy,and institution)and 20 indicators has been devised to quantify *** analytical hierarchy process(AHP)is utilized to compute the weights of the criteria,dimensions,and indicators in the urban seismic resilience assessment(USRA)indicator *** the necessary data for a city are obtainable,the seismic resilience of that city can be assessed using this *** illustrate the proposed methodology,a moderate-sized city in China was selected as a case *** assessment results indicate a high level of USR,suggesting that the city possesses strong capabilities to withstand and recover from potential future earthquakes.

[ Objective] The research aimed to study application of the trajectory plume model in atmospheric environmental impact assessment. [ Method] Trajectory plume model was used to retrospectively evaluate regional atmospheric improvement degree by fuel gas desulfurization project in Mawan Power Plant of shenzhen. On this basis, we analyzed applicability of the model in atmospheric prediction of the construction project. [- Re- sult~ Under the situation of complex flow field and variable weather condition, the trajectory plume model displayed good prediction accuracy, to- gether with the use of flow field diagnosis model. Under complex weather condition, this model could be complementary to atmospheric environmen- tal quality prediction model recommended by new atmosphere guidelines, which had the value of popularization in future atmospheric environmental evaluation and planning. [ Conduslon~ Trajectory plume model had broad application potential in atmospheric environmental impact assessment.

[Objective] The reseamh aimed to study removal effects of the organic matter and N by box filler enhancing MBR process. [ Method] By adding box filler into reaction pool of the MBR to treat domestic sewage, removal effects of the organic matter and N by box filler enhancing MBR process were studied. [ Result] COD means in effluent were respectively 26.8 and 24.7 mg/L without and with adding filler. Average removal rates of the NH3-N were respectively 98.44% and 96.37% with and without dosing filler, while average removal rates of the TN were 24.03% and 16.43%, respectively. COD and NH3-N concentrations in effluent were lower than Level-one A cdteda of Discharge Standard of the Pollutant for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant （ GB18918 -2002）. NO3^ -N was main existence form of the TN in effluent and occupied 98.06%, while NH3- N and NO2^--N only accounted for.1.22% and 0.72%. Further suggestion for denitrification study was as below. Firstly, the proportion of box filler on volume of the reaction cell should increase to 4% -5%. Secondly, single smaller filler with larger amount of internal fiber ought to be replaced. Thirdly, aeration amount needed to be decreased to right value, making that DO of the MBR reaction cell reduced to 1.5 -3.0 mg/L. [ Conclusion] The research provided theoretical basis for future engineering practice.

Recently, a new type of skarn tin ore formed by B-F-metasomatism has been found inthe central part of the Malage ore field at Gejiu, Yunnan province, which contains 1-7%Sn. The principal tin minerals are nordenskiol dine, schoenfliesite, varlamoffite, etc., accountingfor about 4%. Cassiterite is rarely seen（less than 0.2%）. Outward from endoskarns are dis-tinguished four alteration zones. ore fluids were rich in Al and Si in the early stage ofskarnization, and became enriched in Fe, Mg, Sn, B, F, H;O, etc. in the later stages. Two epi-sodes of hydrothermal metasomatism of B and F took place during post-skarnization, and the dif-ferent alteration zones may be due to reaction between B-and F-bearing hydrothermal solutionsand country rocks（calcareous carbonates）. The stability of tin minerals is controlled by μB;O;,μCO;, μF;O;and μF（OH）;. It has been concluded from the discussion in terms of the systemCaO-SnO;-SiO;-H;O-B;O;-CO;-F;O;proposed by Burt（1978）and the topological diagrams const-ructed by the author that nordenskioldine was formed in the depletion of Si at about 400℃ inthe skarn environment, where metallogenetic conditions are characterized by rich oxygen butpoor sulfur, and high boron but low fluorine, while schoenfliesite and varlamoffite were for-med at the lower temperature （about 150℃）in response to hydrothermal metasomatism offluorine. In comparison with the metallogenetic conditions for adjacent endoskarn tin ores andother tin ore deposits at Gejiu, the role of the characteristic elemental association Sn-B-F isemphasized in this paper.

Lead-free （Na0.5K0.5）NbO3-xmol% ScTaO4 （x=0-1.5） ceramics are prepared using the conventional solid-state reaction method and their properties are investigated in detail. The results indicate that the piezoelectric properties and density are improved by the introduction of ScTaO4. Due to the high orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition temperature TO-T （around 200°C）, stable piezoelectric properties against temperature are obtained. In a wide temperature range of 15-160°C, kp of the （Na0.5K0.5）NbO3-0.5mol% ScTaO4 ceramic remains almost unchanged and d31 increases slightly from 59pC/N to 71pC/N. The deliquescent problem is effectively solved by the addition of ScTaO4. The piezoelectric properties of ScTaO4 modified （Na0.5K0.5）NbO3 ceramics show no obvious reduction and dielectric loss increases slightly after 120h of immersion. From the analysis, it is suggested that the density is an important factor that improves the humidity resistance of the specimens.

Palmprint recognition and palm vein recognition are two emerging biometrics *** the past two decades,many traditional methods have been proposed for palmprint recognition and palm vein recognition,and have achieved impressive ***,the research on deep learningbased palmprint recognition and palm vein recognition is still very *** this paper,in order to investigate the problem of deep learning based 2D and 3D palmprint recognition and palm vein recognition indepth,we conduct performance evaluation of seventeen representative and classic convolutional neural networks(CNNs)on one 3D palmprint database,five 2D palmprint databases and two palm vein databases.A lot of experiments have been carried out in the conditions of different network structures,different learning rates,and different numbers of network *** have also conducted experiments on both separate data mode and mixed data *** results show that these classic CNNs can achieve promising recognition results,and the recognition performance of recently proposed CNNs is ***,among classic CNNs,one of the recently proposed classic CNNs,i.e.,EfficientNet achieves the best recognition ***,the recognition performance of classic CNNs is still slightly worse than that of some traditional recognition methods.

Pollen-like self-supported FeIr alloy for improved hydrogen evolution reaction in acid electrolyte

Ir is recognized as efficient catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).The high price,however,has hindered its application in the production of *** this work,we prepared the self-supported FeIr alloy nanoparticles,taking advantage of solid-state synthesis *** as-prepared FeIr alloy possesses a novel morphology of pollen,which is consist of smaller FeIr *** calculations reveal that the change of the free Gibbs for Ir is negative after the adsorption of active H,while it is positive for the case of ***,the alloying of Fe and Ir not only effectively reduces the cost,but also can achieve more adequate adsorption of active H *** from this,the as-prepared FeIr alloy nanoparticle exhibits superior HER performance with an overpotential of 19 m V at a current density of 10 m V/cm^(2)and a Tafel slope of 32 m V/dec,when tested in 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4),better than pure Ir and Pt/*** work paves the way to the exploration of efficient alloy electrocatalysts for HER.
