Lung cancer is one of the most aggressive and lethal form of cancers. Patients with far advanced lung cancer are treated by chemotherapy with or without radiotherapy. However, median survival of these patients is less than 6 months. To increase survival and quality of life for these patients, various forms of complementary treatments have been tried in clinical practices, and oncothermia is supposed to be one of the promising candidates. From May 2008 to November 2013, 4 patients with far advanced lung adenocarcinoma (stages IIIB and IV) were treated with oncothermia in addition to conventional chemotherapy at Gangnam Severance Hospital and Bundang CHA Hospital. All these patients have survived for more than 2 years.

Vesicular exocytosis is a key process involved in neurotransmitter release,whereas vesicle recycling is critical for the homeostasis of plasma membrane structures and the maintenance of ***^2+ regulates several fundamental cellular processes(Zhu et al.,2016,Xiong and Zhu,2016).Especially,Ca^2+ influx plays a dual role of triggering vesicular exocytosis and modulating compensatory endocytosis in neurons and endocrine cells.

The rhizosheath, a layer of soil particles that adheres firmly to the root surface by a combination of root hairs and mucilage, may improve tolerance to drought stress. Setaria italica(L.) P. Beauv.(foxtail millet), a member of the Poaceae family, is an important food and fodder crop in arid regions and forms a larger rhizosheath under drought conditions. Rhizosheath formation under drought conditions has been studied, but the regulation of root hair growth and rhizosheath size in response to soil moisture remains unclear. To address this question, in this study we monitored root hair growth and rhizosheath development in response to a gradual decline in soil moisture. Here, we determined that a soil moisture level of 10%–14%(w/w)stimulated greater rhizosheath production compared to other soil moisture levels. Root hair density and length also increased at this soil moisture level, which was validated by measurement of the expression of root hair-related *** findings contribute to our understanding of rhizosheath formation in response to soil water stress.

With the slow progress of universal quantum computers,studies on the feasibility of optimization by a dedicated and quantum-annealing-based annealer are *** quantum principle is expected to utilize the quantum tunneling effects to find the optimal solutions for the exponential-level problems while classical annealing may be affected by the *** study constructs a new Quantum-Inspired Annealing(QIA)framework to explore the potentials of quantum annealing for solving Ising model with comparisons to the classical *** various configurations of the 1 D Ising model,the new framework can achieve ground state,corresponding to the optimum of classical problems,with higher probability up to 28%versus classical counterpart(22%in case).This condition not only reveals the potential of quantum annealing for solving the Ising-like Hamiltonian,but also contributes to an improved understanding and use of the quantum annealer for various applications in the future.

Approximately 25%of patients with congenital heart disease require implantation of patches to ***,most of the currently available patches are made of inert materials with unmatched electrical conductivity and mechanical properties,which may lead to an increased risk for arrhythmia and heart *** this study,we have developed a novel Polyurethane/Small intestinal submucosa patch(PSP)with mechanical and electrical properties similar to those of the native myocardial tissue,and assessed its feasibility for the reconstruction of right ventricular outflow tract.A right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction model was constructed in 40 *** with commercially available bovine pericardium patch,the PSP patch has shown better histocompatibility and biodegradability,in addition with significantly improved cardiac *** tackle the significant fibrosis and relatively poor vascularization during tissue remodeling,we have further developed a bioactive patch by incorporating the PSP composites with urine-derived stem cells(USCs)which were pretreated with *** results showed that the hypoxia-pretreated bioactive patch could significantly inhibit fibrosis and promote vascularization and muscularization,resulting in better right heart *** findings suggested that the PSP patch combined with hypoxia-pretreated USCs may provide a better strategy for the treatment of congenital heart disease.

Pericardial barrier destruction,inflammatory cell infiltration,and fibrous tissue hyperplasia,trigger adhesions after cardiac *** are few anti-adhesion materials that are both functional and sutureable for pericardial ***,a few studies have reported on the mechanism of preventing pericardial ***,a functional barrier membrane with sutureability was developed via a modified electrospinning *** was composed of poly(L-lactide-co-caprolactone)(PLCL)nanofibers,poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)aerogel,and melatonin,named *** PPMT had a special microstructure manifested as a staggered arrangement of nanofibers on the surface and a layered macroporous aerogel structure in a *** providing the porosity and hydrophilicity obtained from PVA,the structure also had suitable mechanical properties for stitching due to the addition of PLCL ***,it inhibited the proliferation of fibroblasts by suppressing the activation of Fas and P53,and achieved anti-inflammatory effects by affecting the activity of inflammatory cells and reducing the release of pro-inflammatory factors,such as interleukin 8(IL-8)and tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α).Finally,in vivo transplantation showed that it up-regulated the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1(MMP1)and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP1),and down-regulated the expression of Vinculin and transforming growth factorβ(TGF-β)in the myocardium,thereby reducing the formation of ***,these results demonstrate a great potential of PPMT membrane for practical application to anti-adhesion.

Background: Alterations of rest-activity pattern are common among the patients with bipolar disorder and increasingly seen among their family members. There is emerging evidence of rest-activity pattern alterations with regard to the emergence of psychopathologies in the high-risk population. However, the genetic associations between rest-activity pattern and bipolar disorder are largely unknown. The current study aimed to determine the genetic associations of objective rest-pattern and bipolar disorder by using a large-scale pedigree ***: A total of 835 participants(58.6% female;mean age: 28.93 ± 16.53 years old) of 320 families were recruited in this study from a bipolar offspring study, of whom 120 participants had bipolar disorder. All the participants were invited to accomplish the screening clinical interviews to determine the diagnosis of bipolar disorder. One-week Actigraphy was employed to continuously measure rest-activity pattern, including rest pattern parameters, activity pattern parameters, and circadian rhythm parameters. The activity data were cleaned and analyzed carefully by the "GGIR" package(version 1.11-0) in R project. The Sequential Oligogenic Linkage Analysis Routines(SOLAR) program was used to analyze the genetic associations of objective rest-activity pattern with bipolar ***: Totally, 9 rest pattern parameters, 8 activity pattern parameters, and 7 circadian rhythm parameters derived from Actigraphic data were examined. Eight rest pattern parameters, 7 activity pattern parameters, and 3 circadian rhythm parameters were found to have significant heritability(h2 range: 0.22 – 0.49). Three activity pattern parameters and two circadian rhythm parameters were found to be genetically associated with bipolar disorder. After further adjustment by the Benjamini-Hochberg false discovery rate control procedure, only the genetic associations of start time of active period(ρg = 0.51, Q =.03) and daytime total sustained inactivity

In recent years,the urbanization process has brought modernity while also causing key issues,such as traffic congestion and parking ***,cities need a more intelligent"brain"to form more intelligent and efficient transportation *** present,as a type of machine learning,the traditional clustering algorithm still has limitations.K-means algorithm is widely used to solve traffic clustering problems,but it has limitations,such as sensitivity to initial points and poor ***,based on the hybrid architecture of Quantum Annealing(QA)and brain-inspired cognitive computing,this study proposes QA and Brain-Inspired Clustering Algorithm(QABICA)to solve the problem of urban taxi-stand *** on the traffic trajectory data of Xi’an and Chengdu provided by Didi Chuxing,the clustering results of our algorithm and K-means algorithm are *** find that the average taxi-stand location bias of the final result based on QABICA is smaller than that based on K-means,and the bias of our algorithm can effectively reduce the tradition K-means bias by approximately 42%,up to approximately 83%,with higher *** algorithm is able to jump out of the local suboptimal solutions and approach the global optimum,and brain-inspired cognitive computing provides search feedback and ***,we will further consider applying our algorithm to analyze urban traffic flow,and solve traffic congestion and other key problems in intelligent transportation.
