Prevalence and determinations of physical inactivity among public hospital employees in shanghai, China： a cross-sectional study

This study aims to explore the prevalence and determinations of physical inactivity among hospital employees in shanghai, China. A cross-sectional study of 4612 employees aged 19 to 68years was conducted through stratified cluster sampling from different classes of shanghai hospitals in 2011. The total physical activity was evaluated using the metabolic equivalent according to the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Among the participants, 38.5%, 32.3%, and 64.6% of the employees are inactive at work, commuting, and taking leisure time, respectively. Up to 41.8% of the men and 37.8% of the women （P = 0.012） are physically inactive. When the age and educational level are adjusted, male doctors and medical technicians show a higher percentage of physical inactivity than male workers in logistics （P = 0.001）. Among females, employees who are working in second- and third-class hospitals show a higher proportion of physical inactivity than those who are working in community health care centers. Logistic regression analyses show that the odds ratios （ORs） of leisure-time physical inactivity associated with the intensity of physical activity at work are 2.259, 2.897, and 4.266 for men （P 〈 0.001） and 2.456, 3.259, and 3.587 for women （P 〈 0.001）, respectively. The time during commuting activities is significantly associated with leisure-time physical inactivity in either sex （OR = 2.116 for men and 2.173 for women, P 〈 0.001）. hospital employees, particularly doctors and medical technicians, show a higher proportion of physical inactivity than other inhabitants in shanghai. The time and intensity of activity at work and commuting are associated with leisure-time activities.

Drug therapy is among the most widely used methods in disease ***,there remains a trade-off problem between drug dosage and *** purification by adsorption of excessive drugs during clinical treatment could be a solution for enhancing therapeutic efficacy while maintaining normal body ***,inspired by the intrinsic action mechanism of chemotherapeutic agents in targeting DNA in the cell nucleus,we present DNA-polyelectrolyte composite responsive microparticles for chemotherapeutics *** presence of DNA in the microparticles enabled the adsorption of multiple common chemotherapy ***,the microparticles are endowed with a porous structure and a photothermal-responsive ability,both of which contribute to improved adsorption by enhancing the contact of the microparticles with the drug *** the basis of that,the microparticles are integrated into a herringbone-structured microfluidic *** fluid mixing capacity and the enhanced drug cleaning efficiency of the microfluidic platform are validated *** results indicate the value of the DNA-polyelectrolyte composite responsive microparticles for drug capture and blood *** believe the microparticle-integrated microfluidic platform could provide a solution for settling the dosage-toxicity trade-off problems in chemotherapy.

The healing of critical-sized bone defects(CSD)remains a challenge in orthopedic *** recent years,scaffolds with sophisticated microstructures fabricated by the emerging three-dimensional(3D)printing technology have lighted up the treatment of the CSD due to the elaborate microenvironments and support they may ***,we established a magnesium oxide-reinforced 3D-printed biocompos-ite scaffold to investigate the effect of magnesium-enriched 3D microenvironment on CSD *** composite was prepared using a biodegradable polymer matrix,polycaprolactone(PCL),and the disper-sion phase,magnesium oxide(MgO).With the appropriate surface treatment by saline coupling agent,the MgO dispersed homogeneously in the polymer matrix,leading to enhanced mechanical performance and steady release of magnesium ion(Mg^(2+))for superior cytocompatibility,higher cell viability,advanced osteogenic differentiation,and cell mineralization capabilities in comparison with the pure *** in-vivo femoral implantation and critical-sized cranial bone defect studies demonstrated the importance of the 3D magnesium microenvironment,as a scaffold that released appropriate Mg^(2+) exhibited remarkably increased bone volume,enhanced angiogenesis,and almost recovered CSD after 8-week ***,this study suggests that the magnesium-enriched 3D scaffold is a potential candidate for the treatment of CSD in a cell-free therapeutic approach.

Medicinal plants or Chinese materia medica(CMM)are now attracting worldwide attention as they have increasingly prominent advantages over chemical drugs in disease treatment and *** the 1990s,World Health Organization(WHO)and International Organization for Standardization established the Technical Committee of Traditional Chinese Medicine(ISO/TC 249)have carried out the development of quality standards on medicinal plants or CMMs respectively,and a considerable number of monographs and international standards have been *** the two international organizations adhere to different principles,the standards they develop naturally have different *** by market demand and international trade,ISO mainly takes quality,efficacy and safety into consideration when developing standards,while WHO pays more attention to clinical practice,quality control and medication *** to now,there is a lack of comparative analysis on the records,background,principles,basic content,and main requirements of quality standards on medicinal plants or CMMs respectively published by WHO and ***,based on international standards of CMM developed by ISO/TC 249 platform and WHO Monographs on Selected Medicinal Plants,this paper systematically compares the purposes,selected principles,standard-developing process,basic content,and main quality requirements to summarize their similarities and differences,and find their merits,aiming to serve as a reference to the development of international standards for CMMs that helps them go global.

Fabrication of high sensitivity 2-PEA sensor based on Aldehyde-functionalized mesoporous carbon

2-Phenylethylamine(2-PEA)is one of the main ingredients for ***,it is necessary to limit its use and illegal trade by conveniently detecting 2-PEA ***,a QCM based 2-PEA gas sensor was constructed by using aldehyde functionalized mesoporous carbon(FDU-15-CHO)as sensing materials designed according to Schiff base adsorption *** 2D hexagonal mesoporous structures of the sensing material have been confirmed by small-angle X-ray diffraction(SXRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and N2adsorption-desorption *** covalent grafting of aldehyde group onto the FDU-15 was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).FDU-15-CHO based Quartz Crystal Microbalance(QCM)sensor shows better sensitivity to 2-PEA than its parent ***,the detection limit of FDU-15-CHO based sensor can reach down to 1 ppm,and its selectivity and reproducibility are *** high concentrations of active sites in the mesopores of FDU-15 are believed to facilitate 2-PEA adsorption,and thus the presence of the-CHO group leading to sensitive and selective response,which is verified by Gaussian simulation.

Introduction Methylmalonic acidemia(MMA)is a disorder of autosomal recessive inheritance,with an estimated prevalence of 1:50,***-tier clinical diagnostic tests often return many false positives[fve false positive(FP):one true positive(TP)].In this work,our goal was to refne a classifcation model that can minimize the number of false positives,currently an unmet need in the upstream diagnostics of *** We developed machine learning multivariable screening models for MMA with utility as a secondary-tier tool for false positives *** utilized mass spectrometry-based features consisting of 11 amino acids and 31 carnitines derived from dried blood samples of neonatal patients,followed by additional ratio feature *** selection strategies(selection by flter,recursive feature elimination,and learned vector quantization)were used to determine the input set for evaluating the performance of 14 classifcation models to identify a candidate model set for an ensemble model *** Our work identifed computational models that explore metabolic analytes to reduce the number of false positives without compromising *** best results[area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)of 97%,sensitivity of 92%,and specifcity of 95%]were obtained utilizing an ensemble of the algorithms random forest,C5.0,sparse linear discriminant analysis,and autoencoder deep neural network stacked with the algorithm stochastic gradient boosting as the *** model achieved a good performance trade-of for a screening application with 6%false-positive rate(FPR)at 95%sensitivity,35%FPR at 99%sensitivity,and 39%FPR at 100%*** The classifcation results and approach of this research can be utilized by clinicians globally,to improve the overall discovery of MMA in pediatric *** improved method,when adjusted to 100%precision,can be used to further inform the diagnostic process journey of MMA and help r

The divergence and continuous evolution of plants and animals contribute to ecological *** and transcription factors(TFs) are key determinants of gene regulation and transcription ***,theevolutionary trajectories and relationships of promoters and TFs are still poorly understood. Here, we conducted extensive analysis of large-scale multi-omics sequences in 420 animal species and 223 plant species spanning nearly a billion years of evolutionary history. Results showed that promoter GC-contentandTFisoelectricpoints,as features/signatures that accompany long biological evolution, exhibited increasing growth in animal cells but a decreasing trend in plant cells. Furthermore, the evolutionary trajectories of promoter and TF signatures in the animal kingdom provided further evidence that Mammalia as well as Aves evolved directly from the ancestor Reptilia. The strong correlation between promoter and TF signatures indicates that promoters and TFs formed antagonistic coevolution in the animal kingdom, but mutualistic coevolution in the plant kingdom. The distinct coevolutionary patterns potentially drive the plant-animal divergence, divergent evolution and ecological diversity.
