Neiguan(PC6) acupoint stimulation for preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting: a cost-effective supplement in guideline-inconsistent chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting prophylaxis subgroup

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Neiguan(PC6) acupoint acustimulation in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting(CINV),especially for patients with guideline-inconsistent CINV prophylaxis(GICP) due to personal reasons METHODs: From January 2021 to December 2021, 373 patients suffered from solid malignancy were recruited according to the inclusion criteria. Complete response(no emesis and no rescue medication use) rate during the overall phase(0-120 h of each chemo-cycle) was the primary assessment of CINV control. The Functional Living Index-Emesis(FLIE) questionnaire was investigated among these patients as a secondary 'quality of life' objective to assess the impact of CINV on patients' daily life by recording score of nausea and vomiting. REsULTs: With acustimulation of Neiguan(PC6) acupuncture point through a portable, noninvasive and user-friendly device, in terms of complete response rate and scores in nausea/vomiting by FLIE questionnaire, patients achieve a better outcome in highly emetogenic chemotherapy(HEC) induced CINV, especially GICP subgroup. Meanwhile, analysis also demonstrated this tendency existed in other patients with HEC/GCCP(guideline consistent CINV prophylaxis) and moderate emetogenic chemotherapy, although the difference was not significant. CONCLUsION: Considering advantages of Neiguan(PC6) acustimulation such as noninvasive, covered by medical insurance and few side effects, we believe it would be an ideal auxiliary tool in CINV control, especially in patients who receive highly emetogenic chemoprotocol and are reluctant to GCCP for economic reasons.

Detachable string magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy for the noninvasive diagnosis of esophageal diseases:A prospective,blind clinical study

Pancreatic cancer stands out as a recognized intractable tumor due to its high malignancy and mortality rates,which are largely attributed to the insensitivity of current clinical chemotherapies or *** chemo and gene therapy that integrates different therapeutic targets,may increase the chemosensitivity of pancreatic cancer and synergistically enhance the antitumor ***,conventional co-delivery of gene and chemo drugs is intensively dependent on complex nanoparticle delivery systems,thus would be limited by unstable drug packaging,nonspecific biodistribution,and biosafety ***,we rationally designed an epidermal growth factor-receptor(EGFR)-targeted and gemcitabine-incorporated oligonucleotide(termed as chemogene)with anti-Bcl-2 sequence,which achieves simple and precise integration of gemcitabine into a gene regulative agent,as well as the EGFR-targeted delivery for pancreatic cancer *** solid-phase synthesis,gemcitabine,as the first-line chemodrug for pancreatic cancer,is introduced to the antisense oligonucleotide to replace all cytosine nucleosides to obtain the gemcitabine-integrated chemogene(Ge-AsO^(Bcl-2)).Thereafter,Ge-AsO^(Bcl-2)is covalently coupled with EGFR nanobody to construct the final targeted chemogene without any exogenous ***,this nanobody-conjugated chemogene exhibits remarkable tumor targeting capability and antitumor effects both in vitro and in vivo,which initiates a first step toward the application of combinatorial chemo and gene therapy for future pancreatic cancer treatment.

Individualized Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment vs antibiotics for recurrent urinary tract infections: a multicenter, randomized controlled study

OBJECTIVE: To systematically assess the effects of individualized Chinese medicines on recurrent urinary tract infections(rUTIs).METHODs: This study recruited 230 adult female patients in the remission phase of rUTIs from five hospitals in China. The patients were randomly allocated to two groups: an individualized Chinese medicine group(n = 114) and a control group(n = 116). Patients in the Chinese medicine group received individualized Chinese herbs, which were evaluated for syndrome *** in the control group received antibiotic treatment combined with a Chinese medicine placebo. The duration of treatment was three courses of four weeks each, with a three-month subsequent follow-up. UTI recurrence rate,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome scores,36-item short Form survey(sF-36) score, and urine secretory immunoglobulin A(sIgA) were measured and analyzed before and after treatment in each group. REsULTs: Patients from the Chinese medicine group exhibited significant decreases in both short-and longterm UTI recurrence rates compared with the control group(P s in TCM syndrome scores between the Chinese medicine and control groups were significant(P s in the average sF-36 quality-of-life scores in the Chinese medicine group were also significantly higher than those in the control group after treatment(P se medicine group also demonstrated a significant increase in urine sIg A expression. CONCLUsION: Taken together, compared to the oftenused long-term antimicrobial prophylaxis during the remission stage of r UTIs, treating patients with an individualized Chinese medicine decoction by syndrome differentiation could effectively reduce the recurrence rate, improve the patients' TCM syndrome scores and quality of life, and enhance immunity, which in turn helps to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Mitochondria,with their intricate networks of functions and information processing,are pivotal in both health regulation and disease ***,mitochondrial dysfunctions are identified in many common pathologies,including cardiovascular diseases,neurodegeneration,metabolic syndrome,and ***,the multifaceted nature and elusive phenotypic threshold of mitochondrial dysfunction complicate our understanding of their contributions to ***,these complexities do not prevent mitochondria from being among the most important therapeutic *** recent years,strategies targeting mitochondrial dysfunction have continuously emerged and transitioned to clinical *** intervention such as using healthy mitochondria to replenish or replace damaged mitochondria,has shown promise in preclinical trials of various *** components,including mtDNA,mitochondria-located microRNA,and associated proteins can be potential therapeutic agents to augment mitochondrial function in immunometabolic diseases and tissue ***,we review current knowledge of mitochondrial pathophysiology in concrete examples of common *** also summarize current strategies to treat mitochondrial dysfunction from the perspective of dietary supplements and targeted therapies,as well as the clinical translational situation of related pharmacology ***,this review discusses the innovations and potential applications of mitochondrial transplantation as an advanced and promising treatment.

Post-traumatic peritendinous adhesion presents a significant challenge in clinical *** study proposes the use of diamond-like carbon(DLC)deposited on polylactic acid(PLA)membranes as a biophysical mechanism for anti-adhesion barrier to encase ruptured tendons in tendon-injured *** results indicate that PLA/DLC composite membrane exhibits more efficient anti-adhesion effect than PLA membrane,with histological score decreasing from 3.12±0.27 to 2.20±0.22 and anti-adhesion effectiveness increasing from 21.61%to 44.72%.Mechanistically,the abundant C=O bond functional groups on the surface of DLC can reduce reactive oxygen species level effectively;thus,the phosphorylation of NF-κB and M1 polarization of macrophages are ***,excessive inflammatory response augmented by M1 macrophage-originated cytokines including interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)is largely *** biocompatibility evaluation,PLA/DLC membrane is slowly absorbed within tissue and displays prolonged barrier effects compared to traditional PLA *** studies show the DLC depositing decelerates the release of degradation product lactic acid and its induction of macrophage M2 polarization by interfering esterase and PLA ester bonds,which further delays the fibrosis *** was found that the PLA/DLC membrane possess an efficient biophysical mechanism for treatment of peritendinous adhesion.
