Objective:To investigate the impact of the fliD gene on the biofilm formation of Helicobacter pylori(***).Methods:*** fliD mutant was constructed using inverse PCR *** mobility of the bacteria and its adhesion ability to human epithelial cells were assessed using a motility assay and a fluorescein isothiocyanate staining adhesion assay,*** formation of biofilm was evaluated using a pellicle assay and a crystal violet staining *** cy to-architecture of the biofilm was documented with scanning electron ***:It was found that there was no significant difference in the levels of bacterial adhesion and the biofilm formation between the wild-type ATCC 43504 and the fliD *** from a poor motility,the fliD mutant had a slightly delayed formation of its biofilm and an incomplete cy to-architecture of its *** bacterial cells residing in the biofilm of the fliD mutant showed a loose accumulation with less apparent crosslinking *** of the mutant cells had truncated ***:This study provides the preliminary evidences that fliD potentially regulates biofilm formation and is required for the motility of *** studies need to be performed in order to develop fliD as a novel target for vaccine or antimicrobial agent in future.

Objective:To observe and assess the compliance to sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine(SP) one and a half years after phasing out chloroquine(CQ) in Mkuranga District,Coast region,Tanzania. Methods:A randomly controlled baseline community study was conducted in rural areas of Mkuranga district,***-structured questionnaire consisted of open-and closed -ended questions including home stocking,home use,last fever episodes and treatment of underfives with malaria using CQ or ***:The prevalence of fever or reported fever rate during the last 48 hours by their mothers or guardians was high(70%).Of all 117 blood samples,only 8 children after drug analysis were found to have CQ and 13 had SP concentrations within their blood *** of these blood drug levels were above therapeutic ranges. Conclusions:Community interventions are urgently needed in rural communities and should specifically target households nucleus on early malaria fever recognition and provision of recommended antimalarials for the sick underfive ***,sadly,there was an increase in underweight and undernourishment in the study areas,probably because of malaria in the area and poverty which are associated with poor nutrition in these youngsters.

Background:To compare the arithmetic mean(M-SIA)and the summated vector mean of surgically induced astigmatism(SVM-SIA)according to the incision site after phakic intraocular lens(Visian implantable collamer lens(ICL),STAAR Surgical)***:This study comprised 121 eyes of 121 consecutive patients undergoing ICL surgery through a 3.0-mm temporal or superior clear corneal *** magnitude and the axis of corneal astigmatism preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively were measured using an automated *** M-SIA and the SVM-SIA were determined according to the incision ***:The magnitude of corneal astigmatism significantly increased from 1.23±0.59 D preoperatively to 1.46±0.72 D postoperatively in the temporal incision group(Wilcoxon signed-rank test,P<0.001),but it significantly decreased from 1.09±0.36 D preoperatively to 0.86±0.41 D postoperatively in the superior incision group(P<0.001).The M-SIA was 0.48±0.30 D,and the SVM-SIA was 0.23±0.52 D at a meridian of 82°in the temporal incision *** M-SIA was 0.57±0.30 D,and the SVM-SIA was 0.47±0.45 D at a meridian of 1°in the superior incision ***:ICL implantation induces the M-SIA by approximately 0.5 D,but the SVM-SIA decreased to 50%and 80%of the M-SIA in magnitude through temporal and superior incisions,*** direction of the SVM-SIA showed a tendency toward corneal flattening to the incisional *** should be noted that the M-SIA is somewhat different from the SVM-SIA according to the incision site.

Purpose:The reliability of trauma coding is essential in establishing the reliable trauma data and adopting efficient control and monitoring *** present study aimed to determine the reliability of trauma coding in educational hospitals affiliated to Shahid Beheshti university of Medical sciences,***:In this descriptive cross-sectional study,591 coded medical records with a trauma diagnosis in 2018 were selected and recoded by two *** reliability of trauma coding was calculated using Cohen's *** data were recorded in a checklist,in which the validity of the content had been confirmed by ***:The reliability of the coding related to the nature of trauma in research units was 0.75—0.77,indicating moderate ***,the reliability of the coding of external causes of trauma was 0.57—0.58,suggesting poor ***:The reliability of trauma coding both in terms of the nature of trauma and the external causes of trauma does not have a good status in the research *** can be due to the complex coding of trauma,poor documentation of the cases,and not studying the entire ***,holding training courses for coders,offering training on the accurate documentation to other service providers,and periodically auditing the medical coding are recommended.

The cranial index(CI)of Ghanaians is currently *** aim of this study was to measure the CI in a population of Ghanaians in order to classify them against pre-determined CI categories.A systematic random sampling method was used to select 300 normal computed tomography(CT)head scans of adult Ghanaians from the largest hospital in *** patients were deemed to have a normal cranial image configuration based on the radiological *** biparietal diameter(BPD,width)and the occipitofrontal diameter(OFD,length)were measured on transaxial CT images using a workstation with a calibrated measurement calliper *** CI ratio was calculated as the BPD multiplied by 100 and divided by the ***,standard deviation(SD)and range were calculated for BPD,OFD and *** in measurements between demographic groups were compared using an unpaired t-test,with testαset at *** the population of Ghanaians included in this study,165(55%)were male and 135(45%)were *** mean CI was 77.3±3.6 in males and 79.0±3.3 in females,placing both genders in the mesocephalic ***,the difference between males and females was found to be statistically significant(P=0.02).The study indicated that most Ghanaian adults belong to the mesocephalic category of *** also had a higher CI,which could be used to differentiate gender *** information can be useful for forensic medicine,plastic surgeries for clinical and research purpose.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of axial length(AL)and anterior chamber depth(ACD)on peripheral refractive profile in myopic patients compared to emmetropic ***:This cross-sectional study was conducted in right eyes of 58 participants of whom 38 were emmetropic and 20 were *** and peripheral refraction were measured at 10°,20°,and 30°eccentricities in nasal and temporal fields using an open-field *** Lenstar LS900 was used to measure ACD and *** participants were divided into three groups of short(24.5 mm)according to AL and three groups of low ACD(3.60 mm)according to ***:The mean age of the participants was 22.26±3.09 y(range 18-30 y).The peripheral mean spherical refractive error showed a hypermetropic shift in myopic and emmetropic groups although this shift was more pronounced in the myopic *** results showed significant changes in the spherical equivalent,J0,and J45 astigmatism in all gazes with an increase in eccentricity(P<0.001).The pattern of refractive error changes was more noticeable in long and short eyes versus normal AL ***,the pattern of peripheral refractive changes was much more prominent in the high ACD group versus the normal ACD group and in the normal ACD group versus the low ACD ***:Peripheral refraction changes are greater in participants with AL values outside the normal range and deeper ACD values compared to participants with normal AL and ACD.

Datura stramonium L., a wild-growing plant of the Solanaceae family, is widely distributed and easily accessible. It contains a variety of toxic tropane alkaloids such as atropine, hyoscamine, and scopolamine. In Eastern medicine, especially in Ayurvedic medicine, D. stramonium has been used for curing various human ailments, including ulcers, wounds, inflammation, rheumatism and gout, sciatica, bruises and swellings, fever, asthma and bronchitis, and toothache. A few previous studies have reported on the pharmacological effects of D. stramonium; however, complete information regarding the pharmacology, toxicity, ethnobotany and phytochemistry remains unclear. Ethnomedicinally, the frequent recreational abuse of D. stramonium has resulted in toxic syndromes. D. stramonium, in the form of paste or solution to relieve the local pain, may not have a deleterious effect; however, oral and systemic administration may lead to severe anticholinergic symptoms. For this reason, it is very important for individuals, mainly young people, to be aware of the toxic nature and potential risks associated with the use of this plant. This comprehensive review of D. stramonium includes information on botany, phytochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology and ethnomedicinal uses.

Pseudospondias microcarpa is used in ethnomedicine to manage central nervous system *** hydroethanolic extract(PME)from the leaves of the plant has shown anxiolytic-like properties in mice anxiety ***,its effects in chronic anxiety models and possible mechanism(s)of action were not ***,the current study evaluated the anxiolytic-like mechanisms of PME in zebrafish models of *** zebrafish light dark test(LDT)and novel tank test(NTT)were employed to assess the anxiolytic-like effects of PME(0.1,0.3,1.0 mg mL^(−1)),fluox-etine(3×10^(−5)mg mL^(−1))and diazepam(1.5×10^(−7)mg mL^(−1)).The chronic unpredictable stress(CUS)test was used to further evaluate the extract’s anxiolytic-like *** potential mechanisms of anxiolytic action of the extract was evaluated after pre-treated with flumazenil,granisetron,methysergide,or pizotifen,all at 1×10^(−3)mg mL^(−1).The extract significantly decreased anxiety behaviours in the NT and LD *** observed effects of the extract were however counteracted by flumazenil,granisetron,methysergide and pizotifen *** addition,PME treatment significantly reversed CUS-induced anxiety behaviours in *** show that PME possesses anxiolytic-like effects possibly through interaction with serotonergic and gamma-aminobutyric acid mediated pathways.

Over the past few decades,complementary and alternative treatments have become increasingly popular *** purported therapeutic characteristics of natural products have come under increased scrutiny both in vitro and in vivo as part of efforts to legitimize their *** such product is tea tree oil(TTO),a volatile essential oil primarily obtained from the native Australian plant,Melaleuca alternifolia,which has diverse traditional and industrial applications such as topical preparations for the treatment of skin *** anti-inflammatory-linked immunomodulatory actions have also been *** systematic review focuses on the anti-inflammatory effects of TTO and its main components that have shown strong immunomodulatory *** extensive literature search was performed electronically for data curation on worldwide accepted scientific databases,such as Web of Science,Google Scholar,PubMed,ScienceDirect,Scopus,and esteemed publishers such as Elsevier,Springer,Frontiers,and Taylor&*** that the majority of pharmacological studies were conducted on crude oils only,the extracted data were critically analyzed to gain further insight into the prospects of TTO being used as a neuroprotective agent by drug formulation or dietary *** addition,the active constituents contributing to the activity of TTO have not been well justified,and the core mechanisms need to be unveiled especially for anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects leading to ***,this review attempts to correlate the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity of TTO with its neuroprotective mechanisms.
