The heavy emphasis on statistical rigor that business schools in American universities place on research is questionable in general and, for business schools in China, is not necessarily a good strategy by which either to produce useful research or to distinguish themselves from business schools in the United States. The reasons for this pertain to, first, what statistical analysis is good for in science; second, what statistical analysis is not good for in science; third, what statistical analysis is and is not good for in business research; fourth, how a large sample size is not generalizable but a single case is; fifth, how action research, design research, and Herbert Simon＇s ＂sciences of the artificial＂ all demonstrate rigor without statistics; and finally, the historical context that explains the turn to statistics in American business schools but is irrelevant to China. The recommendation is for business schools in China not necessarily to reject statistical research, but rather, to also pursue other, equally scientific forms of research, including those recognized by Herbert Simon.

Service-Cost-Sharing Contract Design for a Dual-Channel Supply Chain with Free Riding

This paper considers a dual channel supply chain,where a manufacturer sells a single product through his/her online channel and a traditional retailer,who provides consumers with pre-sale services.The manufacturer's online channel may free-ride the retailer's pre-sale service,which reduces the retailer's desired effort level,and hence may hurt the manufacturer's and the overall supply chain performance.Under both Manufacturer-and Retailer-Stackelberg settings,we study how the manufacturer designs a service-cost-sharing(SCS for brevity)contract to enhance the retailer's service effort level,and how free riding influences two members'optimal decisions.We design an algorithm for determining the two members’optimal decisions under each setting.The three main findings are found:(i)In the Manufacturer-Stackelberg setting,the SCS contract can enhance the retailer's service effort level and eliminate the negative impact incurred by free riding,but can't in the Retailer-Stackelberg setting,(ii)Under the SCS contract,the smaller the fraction of service cost the retailer is requested to share,the more detrimental to the retailer it will be under certain conditions.That is,the phenomenon called"counter-profit cost-sharing"appears,(iii)Both players like to act as a leader if the price competition between the two channels is not relatively very fierce,otherwise they both like to act as a follower.

The Sequential Pricing of Ride-Hailing System with Rental Service in the Context of Fleet Electrification

Surging demand and reduced capacity in the ride-hailing industry have prompted numerous ride-hailing platforms to build their own car-rental services catering to drivers who do not possess private vehicles. However, the trade-off between the ride-hailing service and the car-rental service is an important issue that is still unclear in theory. Moreover, ride-hailing platforms are transitioning towards all-electric fleets in the context of Carbon Neutrality goals and government regulations. This paper considers a ride-hailing system comprising a monopolist ride-hailing platform, an electric vehicle (EV) rental firm, and a gasoline vehicle (GV) rental firm. Furthermore, we build a stylized model to study the sequential pricing of the system. The equilibrium outcomes show the significant impact of the ride-hailing platform’s decision to continue or withdraw offering EV rental services on EV and GV drivers’ net earnings, rental prices, and wages. The ride-hailing platform providing EV rental services increases EV drivers’ net earnings but decreases the GV driver wages and rental prices. However, the EV rental service offered by the ride-hailing platform does not necessarily lead to an increased total profit for the system. The improved profitability of the system by the ride-hailing platform providing EV rental services is contingent upon lower rider prices and higher fuel costs. The ride-hailing platform’s EV rental services provision also effectively fosters the ride-hailing fleet’s electrification. Furthermore, as the number of riders increases, the ride-hailing platform should reduce the commission rate for EV drivers to maintain competitiveness and profitability.

Multiplicative Integral Theory of Generalized Orthopair Fuzzy Sets and Its Applications

There are two main issues of fuzzy multi-attribute decision-making:determine the weight of each attribute and choose an appropriate aggregation method to integrate the evaluation information of different attributes.In order to solve the multi-attribute decision-making problem in generalized orthopair fuzzy environment with unknown attribute weights more effectively,we give a decision-making method based on generalized orthopair fuzzy definite integrals.To be specific,we first introduce the complement operations of q-rung orthopair fuzzy numbers,and then investigate the multiplicative q-rung orthopair fuzzy calculus.Through the complement operations,we establish the mutual conversion formula between additive and multiplicative q-rung orthopair fuzzy calculus theory.Then,we give a multiplicative integral-based q-rung orthopair fuzzy multi-attribute decision-making method,and discuss the relationship between the q-rung orthopair fuzzy definite integrals and the q-rung orthopair fuzzy weighted geometric operator.Compared with traditional decision-making methods,this method does not rely on subjective weight information,which is especially important when dealing with large sample data.Finally,the application of election is studied to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.With the introduction of generalized orthopair fuzzy sets,the expression form of election evaluation information has been expanded.We also provide some examples to compare the obtained results with the results generated by the addition operation and reveal the correlation between them.

An Emergency Shelter Location Model Based on the Sense of Security and the Reliability Level

Based on the value function of the prospect theory,this paper constructs a security function,which is used to describe the victims’feelings about the distance in emergency evacuation.Since different paths between the demand points and the emergency shelters are generally of different importance degrees,they are divided into main paths and auxiliary paths.The security function values and the reliability levels of main paths and auxiliary paths are given different weights.The weighted sum of the security function values and the weighted sum of the reliability level function values of all demand points are maximized to determine the location and the number of the emergency shelters,the transfer paths,the reinforced edges and the incremental reliability level of the selected edge.In order to solve the model,a two-stage simulated annealing-particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed.In this algorithm,the particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm is embedded into the simulated annealing(SA)algorithm.The cumulative probability operator and the cost probability operator are formed to determine the evolution of the particles.Considering the budget constraint,the algorithm eliminates the shelter combinations that do not meet the constraint,which greatly saves the calculation time and improves the efficiency.The proposed algorithm is applied to a case,which verifies its feasibility and stability.The model and the algorithm of this paper provide a basis for emergency management departments to make the earthquake emergency planning.

This paper constructs a dynamic model of household consumption decisions and accordingly designs empirical analyses to identify how infrastructure investment affects private consumption.The estimation results of provincial panel data reveal that infrastructure investment can not only indirectly promote household consumption through the income channel but also directly promote household consumption expansion through the expectations channel,with a significant"crowding-in"effect.However,the effect is significantly weaker in provinces with a lower housing supply elasticity,showing the"crowding-out"pattern through the wealth channel.Household survey data provide an explanation for individual heterogeneity.Infrastructure investment has a greater pushing effect on house prices in provinces with a lower housing supply elasticity.Rapid house price growth has significant"crowding-out"effects on the consumption of wealthy households.This not only significantly weakens the driving effect of infrastructure investment on aggregate household consumption,but also increases wealth inequality in the long term.This paper explains how infrastructure investment affects household consumption and the corresponding role played by house prices,providing empirical evidences for theoretical studies related to macro-regulatory policies in China.

A Confidence-based Consensus Model for Multi-Attribute Group Decision Making:Exploring the Bounded Trust Propagation and Personalized Adjustment Willingness

Social trust network(STN)and minimum cost consensus(MCC)models have been widely used to address consensus issues in multi-attribute group decision-making(MAGDM)problems with limited resources.However,most researchers have overlooked the decision maker‘(DMs)’confidence levels(CLs)and adjustment willingness implicit in their evaluations.To address these problems,this paper explores a confidence-based MCC model that considers DMs’adjustment willingness in the STN.The proposed model includes several modifications to the traditional trust propagation and consensus optimization models.Firstly,the improved method for measuring CLs of DMs and the confidence-based normalization approach are defined,respectively.Secondly,the bounded trust propagation operator is proposed,which considers the credibility of mediators to complete the STN.Thirdly,the identification rules based on the consensus index and CL are defined,and the MCC model with personalized cost functions and acceptable adjustment thresholds is built to automatically generate adjustment values for non-consensus DMs.Finally,a model to identify the non-cooperative behavior at the element level is established and the hybrid MCC model with persuasion strategies is provided.Finally,a case study is processed to verify the applicability of the proposed model,and comparison and sensitivity analysis are conducted to highlight its benefits.

Central Asian Economies(CAEs)have diverse exchange rate policies.They have recorded higher volatility in the foreign exchange market since inception.High volatility of the transition era has drifted these economies towards partial dollarization.Monetary authorities in CAEs,(already have a challenge of maintaining monetary policy autonomy)have a gigantic task of price stability and stopping the spread of dollarization.This study is directed towards assessing the drivers and the determinants of foreign exchange market pressure in CAEs.The results,based on panel data analysis and the System GMM model,have provided useful insights about the exchange market pressure determinants particularly USD,Euro,Ruble,and Renminbi.The results show that China and Russia exchange market pressure has a negative effect on the exchange market pressure of CAEs.While the dollar index shows a positive impact on the exchange market pressure of CAEs.Overall,the findings imply that China and Russia currency appreciation results in a trade deficit across CAEs.The policy implication suggests that the floating exchange rate regime(inflation targeting regime)is not in favor of CAEs,and they must use managed-float to reduce their trade deficits.

This study uses a sample of A-share listed companies to investigate the impact of China's Data Basic Institutional System on capital market reactions and the mechanism by which it exerts influence.The findings reveal that within a 5-day period before and after the policy announcement,listed companies with high data resources experience a significantly higher abnormal return compared to those with low data resources.Moreover,this difference becomes more pronounced as enterprise technology intensity increases.Furthermore,the policy enhances the capital market's perception of the value of data resources and its potential for generating multiplier effects.Additional tests confirm that post-implementation of the policy,the capital market reevaluates the long-term value of enterprises associated with data resources.This comprehensive examination contributes empirical evidence to support academic research,inform policy formulation,and guide strategic planning in relevantindustries.

While progress has been made in information source localization,it has overlooked the prevalent friend and adversarial relationships in social networks.This paper addresses this gap by focusing on source localization in signed network models.Leveraging the topological characteristics of signed networks and transforming the propagation probability into effective distance,we propose an optimization method for observer selection.Additionally,by using the reverse propagation algorithm we present a method for information source localization in signed networks.Extensive experimental results demonstrate that a higher proportion of positive edges within signed networks contributes to more favorable source localization,and the higher the ratio of propagation rates between positive and negative edges,the more accurate the source localization becomes.Interestingly,this aligns with our observation that,in reality,the number of friends tends to be greater than the number of adversaries,and the likelihood of information propagation among friends is often higher than among adversaries.In addition,the source located at the periphery of the network is not easy to identify.Furthermore,our proposed observer selection method based on effective distance achieves higher operational efficiency and exhibits higher accuracy in information source localization,compared with three strategies for observer selection based on the classical full-order neighbor coverage.
