As the fundamental building block of optical fiber communication technology,thermally drawn optical fibers have fueled the development and prosperity of modern information ***,the conventional step-index configured silica optical fibers have scarcely altered since their *** recent years,thermally drawn multifunctional fibers have emerged as a new yet promising route to enable unprecedented development in information *** adopting the well-developed preform-to-fiber manufacturing technique,a broad range of functional materials can be seamlessly integrated into a single fiber on a kilometer length scale to deliver sophisticated *** such as photodetection,imaging,acoustoelectric detection,chemical sensing,tactile sensing,biological probing,energy harvesting and storage,data storage,program operation,and information processing on fiber *** addition to the original light-guiding function,these flexible fibers can be woven into fab-rics to achieve large-scale personal health monitoring and interpersonal *** drawn multifunctional fibers have opened up a new stage for the next generation of information *** review article summarizes an overview of the basic concepts,fabrication processes,and developments of multifunctional *** also highlights the significant pro-gress and future development in information applications.

Nonlinear frequency conversion of structured beams has been of great interest *** present an intracavity second harmonic generation(SHG)of laser beams in transverse mode locking(TML)states with a specially designed sandwich such as a microchip *** intracavity nonlinear frequency conversion process of a laser beam in a TML state to its second harmonic is theoretically and experimentally investigated,considering different relative phase and weight parameters between the basic modes in the TML *** between the far-field SHG beam patterns of fundamental frequency transverse modes in coherently locked and incoherently superposed states demonstrates that the SHG of TML beams can carry more *** rarely observed far-field SHG beam patterns are obtained,and they are consistent with the theoretical analysis and numerical *** the obtained SHG beams,the characteristics of the structured fundamental frequency beams can also be conversely investigated or *** work may have important applications in optical 3D printing,optical trapping of particles,and free-space optical communication areas.

Internet of Things (IoT) has attracted extensive interest from both academia and industries, and is recognized as an ultimate infrastructure to connect everything at anytime and anywhere. The implementation of IoT generally faces the challenges from energy constraint and implementation cost. In this paper, we will introduce a new green communication paradigm, the ambient backscatter (AmBC), that could utilize the environmental wireless signals for both powering a tiny-cost device and backscattering the information symbols. Specifically, we will present the basic principles of AmBC, analyze its features and advantages, suggest its open problems, and predict its potential applications for our future IoT.

Fabrication of High Quality Broadband Type IIA Chirped Fiber Bragg Gratings

Chirped fiber Bragg gratings have found many applications in optical communication and sensing systems. High quality filters based on chirped fiber Bragg gratings with reflection bandwidth of 2.6 and 32nm and high reflectivity are demonstrated experimentally with 2 and 4cm long phase masks, respectively. These filters with flat reflection band and high reflectivity are achieved by writing type IIA chirped Bragg gratings.

In this paper, the optimal XL-reinsurance of an insurer with jump-diffusion risk process is studied. With the assumptions that the risk process is a compound Possion process perturbed by a standard Brownian motion and the reinsurance premium is calculated according to the variance principle, the implicit expression of the priority and corresponding value function when the utility function is exponential are obtained. At last, the value function is argued, the properties of the priority about parameters are discussed and numerical results of the priority for various claim-size distributions are shown.

Mid-Late Quaternary loess-paleosol sequence in Lantian's Yushan,China:An environmental magnetism approach and its paleoclimatic significance

The application of rock magnetism methods to investigating the variations of magnetic minerals in the sediments is an important approach to the reestablishment of paleoclimate evolution. Thus we performed fine magnetic measurements on the loess-paleosol sequence (from L15 upwards to S5, in which L is short for Loess, S is short for Paleosol, the same hereinafter) of Yushan strati-graphic section, which is on the southeastern margin of Chinese Loess Plateau, in Lantian County of China's Shaanxi Province, and the thickness of which is ca. 40 m. Our study shows that the primary magnetic carriers of loess and paleosol in this section are magnetite, maghemite, hematite and goethite. Thermomagnetic analyses on the samples of representative horizons show that the higher pedogenesis degree of the sediments, the smaller variations of magnetization there will be before and after heating, probably related to the pedogenic alteration of loess sediments. Analyses of several magnetic parameters show a significant discrepancy between the paleoclimatic conditions recorded in the strata from the loess unit L15 upward to the paleosol unit S5 in the study area and those recorded in the relative strata of other sections on the Chinese Loess Plateau, and those recorded in marine sediments, indicating the great impact of regional geological background. Similarly, the rapid and intensive change recorded in the segment from L15 to S9-1, and the significant difference between the paleoclimate evolutions of the two periods before and after the change (from L15 to S9-1, and from L9 to the base of S6) indicate the strong alteration of magnetic carriers in the study area as a result of the alternations of summer and winter monsoons in East Asia.

In this paper, dynamic role assignment and collision avoidance based on consensus tracking algorithm are investigated for systems with complete communication graph. First, based on the traditional consensus protocol,consensus-based control algorithm with dynamic role assignment is proposed. To make each agent reach the closest formation point, we give an efficient assignment solution by solving an optimal problem with Hungarain ***, by constructing collision avoidance potential functions, modified consensus algorithms containing corresponding gradient terms are presented for multi-agents systems, which guarantee collision avoidance. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Fault tolerant deterministic secure quantum communication using logical Bell states against collective noise

This study proposes two novel fault tolerant deterministic secure quantum communication （DSQC） schemes resistant to collective noise using logical Bell states. Either DSQC scheme is constructed based on a new coding function, which is designed by exploiting the property of the corresponding logical Bell states immune to collective-dephasing noise and collective-rotation noise, respectively. The secret message can be encoded by two simple unitary operations and decoded by merely performing Bell measurements, which can make the proposed scheme more convenient in practical applications. Moreover, the strategy of one-step quanta transmission, together with the technique of decoy logical qubits checking not only reduces the influence of other noise existing in a quantum channel, but also guarantees the security of the communication between two legitimate users. The final analysis shows that the proposed schemes are feasible and robust against various well-known attacks over the collective noise channel.

Exosome and Exosomal MicroRNA: Trafficking, Sorting, and Function

Exosomes are 40–100 nm nano-sized vesicles that are released from many cell types into the extracellular space. Such vesicles are widely distributed in various body fluids. Recently,m RNAs and micro RNAs（mi RNAs） have been identified in exosomes, which can be taken up by neighboring or distant cells and subsequently modulate recipient cells. This suggests an active sorting mechanism of exosomal mi RNAs, since the mi RNA profiles of exosomes may differ from those of the parent cells. Exosomal mi RNAs play an important role in disease progression, and can stimulate angiogenesis and facilitate metastasis in cancers. In this review, we will introduce the origin and the trafficking of exosomes between cells, display current research on the sorting mechanism of exosomal mi RNAs, and briefly describe how exosomes and their mi RNAs function in recipient ***, we will discuss the potential applications of these mi RNA-containing vesicles in clinical settings.
