Thermal energy storage(TES) systems use solar energy despite its irregular availability and day-night temperature *** work reports the thermal characterizations of solar salt-based phase change composites in the presence of graphene nanoplatelets(GNP).Solar salt(60:40 of NaNO_(3):KNO_(3)) possessing phase transition temperature and melting enthalpy of 221.01℃ and 134.58 kJ/kg is proposed as a phase change material(PCM) for high-temperature solar-based energy storage *** conductivity must be improved to make them suitable for widespread applications and to close the gap between the system needs where they are *** is added at weight concentrations of 0.1%,0.3%,and 0.5% with solar salt using the ball milling method to boost its thermal *** studies indicated the formation of a uniform surface of GNP on solar *** spectrum peaks identified the physical interaction between salt and *** characterization of the composites,such as thermal conductivity,DSC and TGA was carried out for the samples earlier and later 300 thermal cycles.0.5% of GNP has improved the thermal conductivity of salt by 129.67% and after thermal cycling,the enhancement reduced to 125.21% indicating that thermal cycling has a minor impact on thermal *** change temperature decreased by around 2.32% in the presence of0.5% GNP and the latent heat reduced by 4.34% after thermal *** thermograms depicted the composites initiated the weight loss at around 550℃ after which it was *** thermal cycling,the weight loss initiated at ~40℃ lower compared to pure salt,which was found to be a minor *** characterization of solar salt and GNP-based solar salt composites revealed that the composites can be used for enhanced heat transfer in high-temperature solar-based heat transfer and energy storage applications.

The Impingement Heat Transfer Data of Inclined Jet in Cooling Applications: A Review

On the impingement heat transfer data,the experimental studies of air and liquid jets impingement to the flat surfaces were collected and critically *** oblique impingements of both single circular and planar slot jets were considered in *** review focused on the surface where the jet impingement cooling technique was *** nozzle exit Reynolds numbers based on the hydraulic diameter varied in the range of 1,500–52,*** oblique angles relative to the plane surface and the dimensionless jet-to-plate spacing vary in the range of 15°–90°and 2–12 *** review suggested that the magnitude of maximum heat transfer shifted more for air jets compared with the liquid *** drop in the inclination angle and the jet-to-plate separation led to the increase in the asymmetry of heat transfer *** displacement of maximum Nusselt number(heat transfer)locations was found to be sensitive to the inclination angle and the smaller jet-to-plate ***,the Nusselt number correlations proposed by various researchers were discussed and compared with the results of the cited references.

Single Point Cutting Tool Fault Diagnosis in Turning Operation Using Reduced Error Pruning Tree Classifier

Tool wear is inevitable in daily machining process since metal cutting process involves the chip rubbing the tool surface after it has been cut by the tool *** wear dominantly influences the deterioration of surface finish,geometric and dimensional tolerances of the ***,for complete utilization of cutting tools and reduction of machine downtime during the machining process,it becomes necessary to understand the develop-ment of tool wear and predict its status before *** this study,tool condition monitoring system was used to monitor the behavior of a single point cutting tool to predict flank wear.A uniaxial accelerometer was attached to a single point cutting tool under *** accelerometer acquires vibrational signals during turning operation on a lathe *** acquired signals were then used to extract statistical features such as standard error,variance,skewness,*** substantial features were recognized to reduce the utilization of computing *** were used to classify the signals as good and three different measures of flank wear by a decision tree *** domain features were also extracted and shown to be less effective in classification in comparison to statistical ***(Reduced Error Pruning Tree)algorithm was used in this *** decision tree algorithm achieved a maximum classification accuracy of 72.77%for all signals *** spindle speed and feed rate are considered as the variables the accuracy is about 86.25%.When spindle speed is the only variable parameter the accuracy is about 82.71%.When depth of cut,feed rate and speed of the spindle are considered as variable parameters,the accuracy of the decision tree is around 93.51%.This study demonstrates the performance of REPTree classifier in tool condition *** can be utilized for tool wear identification and thus improve surface finish,dimensional accuracy of the work piece and reduce machine *** add

Radial consolidation characteristics of soft undisturbed clay based on large specimens

In recent years, reconstituted small samples have often been used to assess the performance of radial consolidation due to prefabricated vertical drains(PVDs), but the permeability and compressibility of samples of undisturbed soil often differ from those of the remoulded ones. The problem seems more complex in marine environment due to the presence of random coarse particles including gravels, shells and natural partings. Performing small-scale laboratory experiment with reconstituted samples, especially in marine environment, cannot predict the exact soil behaviour in the field. This paper describes an experimental programme that measures radial consolidation using a conventional Rowe cell and a largescale consolidometer, where the samples of undisturbed soil obtained from a site along the Pacific Highway(north of Sydney) were compared using measured settlements and excess pore ***, this paper highlights the implications of the smear effect and sample size influence, which are imperative in translating the laboratory testing practices to actual real-life behaviour. The effect of vacuum pressure on the coefficient of radial consolidation of a large-scale undisturbed test specimen is also discussed. The paper demonstrates that the extent of smear zone in the field can be very similar to the large-scale laboratory consolidation test using a scaled-down drain and mandrel, but considerably different from the data obtained for small laboratory specimens.
