Clay deposits typically exhibit significant degrees of heterogeneity and anisotropy in their strength and stiffness *** non-monotonic responses can significantly impact the stability analysis and design of overlying shallow *** this study,the undrained bearing capacity of shallow foundations resting on inhomogeneous and anisotropic clay layers subjected to oblique-eccentric combined loading is investigated through a comprehensive series of finite element limit analysis(FELA)based on the well-established lower-bound theorem and second-order cone programming(SOCP).The heterogeneity of normally consolidated(NC)clays is simulated by adopting a well-known general model of undrained shear strength increasing linearly with *** contrast,for overconsolidated(OC)clays,the variation of undrained shear strength with depth is considered to follow a bilinear ***,the inherent anisotropy is accounted for by adopting different values of undrained shear strength along different directions within the soil medium,employing an iterative-based *** results of numerical simulations are utilized to investigate the influences of natural soil heterogeneity and inherent anisotropy on the ultimate bearing capacity,failure envelope,and failure mechanism of shallow foundations subjected to the various combinations of vertical-horizontal(V-H)and vertical-moment(V-M)loads.

The mobility edge(ME)is a crucial concept in understanding localization physics,marking the critical transition between extended and localized states in the energy *** localization scaling theory predicts the absence of ME in lower dimensional ***,the search for exact MEs,particularly for single particles in lower dimensions,has recently garnered significant interest in both theoretical and experimental studies,resulting in notable ***,several open questions remain,including the possibility of a single system exhibiting multiple MEs and the continual existence of extended states,even within the strong disorder ***,we provide experimental evidence to address these questions by utilizing a quasiperiodic mosaic lattice with meticulously designed nanophotonic *** observations demonstrate the coexistence of both extended and localized states in lattices with broken duality symmetry and varying modulation *** single-site injection and scanning the disorder level,we could approximately probe the ME of the modulated *** results corroborate recent theoretical predictions,introduce a new avenue for investigating ME physics,and offer inspiration for further exploration of ME physics in the quantum regime using hybrid integrated photonic devices.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-inhibition is an important therapeutic strategy in HER2-amplified gastro-oesophageal cancer(GOC).A significant proportion of GOC patients display HER2 amplification,yet HER2 inhibition in these patients has not displayed the success seen in HER2 amplified breast *** of the current evidence surrounding HER2 has been obtained from studies in breast cancer,and we are only recently beginning to improve our understanding of HER2-amplified *** there are numerous licensed HER2 inhibitors in breast cancer,trastuzumab remains the only licensed HER2 inhibitor for HER2-amplified *** trials investigating lapatinib,trastuzumab emtansine,pertuzumab and MM-111 in GOC have demonstrated disappointing results and have not yet changed the treatment *** deruxtecan may hold promise and is currently being investigated in phase Ⅱ ***2 amplified GOC differs from breast cancer due to inherent differences in the HER2 amino-truncation and mutation rate,loss of HER2 expression,alterations in HER2 signalling pathways and differences in insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor and MET *** alterations involving different micro RNA profiles in GOC as compared to breast cancer and intrinsic differences in the immune environment are likely to play a *** key to effective treatment of HER2 amplified GOC lies in understanding these mechanisms and tailoring HER2 inhibition for GOC patients in order to improve clinical outcomes.

During the non-breeding season(September–April), Black-tailed Godwits(Limosa limosa) are commonly seen in coastal and inland wetlands of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta in Bangladesh. We hypothesize that the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta, at the overlap between the Central Asian and East Asian–Australasian flyways, may host three subspecies that breed in disjunct areas of temperate and northern Asia: L. l. limosa, L. l. melanuroides, and L. l. bohaii. We used mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) haplotype network and biometric analysis to determine subspecies in captured individuals, and deployed GPS–GSM transmitters to verify breeding areas of individuals with subspecies assignments. To test for differential habitat preferences, we sampled birds at two ecologically distinct habitats known to host the largest concentrations of non-breeding Black-tailed Godwits in Bangladesh: Nijhum Dweep National Park, a tidal coastal habitat with brackish water on the south-central coast, and Tanguar Haor(‘backmarsh'), a seasonal freshwater floodplain in the north. During the non-breeding seasons of 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, we sampled and measured 93 Black-tailed Godwits, 54 of which were equipped with GPS–GSM transmitters. Our mt DNA haplotype network analysis confirmed the presence of limosa, melanuroides, and bohaii subspecies at the study sites. Thus, indeed, Black-tailed Godwits subspecies, despite having distinct breeding ranges, exhibit(partially) overlapping non-breeding ranges in Asia. The subspecies composition differed significantly between sites, with limosa and bohaii dominating in Tanguar Haor and melanuroides in Nijhum Dweep. Of the 21 individuals that were tracked to their breeding grounds, 18 migrated to the expected breeding range of their respective subspecies. However, one bird with a limosa haplotype migrated to a known breeding area of bohaii, whereas two birds with melanuroides haplotypes migrated to the supposed breeding range of limosa. Adolescence and the journey to adulthood involves exciting opportunities as well as psychosocial stress for young people growing *** normal experiences are potentially magnified for teenagers living with chronic illness or disability and their *** in care have improved survival for children with a variety of serious chronic medical conditions such that many who may once have died in childhood now survive well into adulthood with ongoing *** those with highly complex needs,care is often provided at major paediatric hospitals with expertise,specially trained personnel,and resources to support young people and their families for the first decades of *** the end of adolescence,however,it is generally appropriate and necessary for young adults and their caregivers to transition to the care of clinicians trained in the care of adults at general *** there are some well-managed models to support this journey of transition,these are often specific to certain conditions and usually do not involve intensive *** patients may encounter considerable challenges during this *** may include the loss of established therapeutic relationships,a perception of austerity and reduced amenity in facilities oriented to caring for adult patients,and care by clinicians with less experience with more common paediatric *** addition,there is a risk of potential conflict between clinicians and families regarding goals of care in the event of a critical illness when it occurs in a young adult with major disability and long-term health *** challenges present genuine opportunities to better understand the transition from paediatric to adult-based care and to improve processes that assist clinicians who support patients and families as they shift between healthcare settings.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia(CLL) is the most common leukemia in the western world. Despite significantadvances in therapy over the last decade CLL remains incurable. Current front-line therapy often consists of chemoimmunotherapy-based regimens, most commonly the fludarabine, cyclophosphamide plus rituximab combination, but rates of relapse and refractory disease are high among these patients. Several key signaling pathways are now known to mediate the survival and proliferation of CLL cells in vivo, the most notable of which are the pathways mediated by the B-cell receptor(BCR) and cytokine receptors. A better understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease, the underlying biology of the CLL-cell and the roles of the tumour microenvironment has provided the rationale for trials of a range of novel, more targeted therapeutic agents. In particular, clinical trials of ibrutinib and idelalisib, which target the Brutons tyrosine kinase and the delta isoform of phosphoinositol-3 kinase components of the BCR signaling pathway respectively, have shown extremely promising results. Here we review the current literature on the key signaling pathways and interactions of CLL cells that mediate the survival and proliferation of the leukemic cells. For each we describe the results of the recent clinical trials and in vitro studies of novel therapeutic agents.

Hypertension is a risk factor for a large number of vision-threatening eye *** this study,we investigated for the first time the retinal neural structure of the hypertensive BPH/2J mouse(Schlager mouse)and compared it to its control counterpart,the normotensive BPN/3J *** BPH/2J mouse is a selectively inbred mouse strain that develops chronic hypertension due to elevated sympathetic nervous system *** compared to the BPN/3J strain,the hypertensive BPH/2J mice showed a complete loss of outer layers of the neural retina at 21 weeks of age,which was indicative of a severe vision-threatening disease potentially caused by *** elucidate whether the retinal neural phenotype in the BPH/2J strain was attributed to increased BP,we investigated the neural retina of both BPN/3J and BPH/2J mice at 4 weeks of *** preliminary results showed for the first time that the BPH/2J strain develops severe retinal neural damage at a young *** findings suggest that the retinal phenotype in the BPH/2J mouse is possibly due to elevated blood pressure and may be contributed by an early onset spontaneous mutation which is yet to be identified or a congenital defect occurring in this *** characterization of the BPH/2J mouse strain is likely to i)elucidate gene defects underlying retinal disease;ii)understand mechanisms leading to neural retinal disease and iii)permit testing of molecules for translational research to interfere with the progression of retinal *** animal experiments were performed with the approval of the royal Perth Hospital Animal Ethics Committee(R535/17-18)on June 1,2017.

This paper reported an efficient and rapid method to produce highly monodispersed CdSe quantum dots (QDs), in which the traditional trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) was replaced by paraffin liquid as solvent and oleic acid as the reacting media. The experimental conditions and the properties of QDs had been studied in detail. The resulting samples were confirmed of uniform size distribution with transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), while UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra clearly indicated that such synthesized QDs had good fluorescence properties.

The most prevalent form of dementia in the elderly is Alzheimer＇s disease.A significant contributing factor to the progression of the disease appears to be the progressive accumulation of amyloid-β42（Aβ42）,a small hydrophobic ***,attempts to develop therapies targeting the accumulation of Aβ42 have not been successful to treat or even slow down the *** is possible that this failure is an indication that targeting downstream effects rather than the accumulation of the peptide itself might be a more effective *** accumulation of Aβ42 seems to affect various aspects of physiological cell *** this review,we provide an overview of the evidence that implicates Aβ42 in synaptic dysfunction,with a focus on how it contributes to defects in synaptic vesicle dynamics and neurotransmitter *** discuss data that provide new insights on the Aβ42 induced pathology of Alzheimer＇s disease and a more detailed understanding of its contribution to the synaptic deficiencies that are associated with the early stages of the *** the precise mechanisms that trigger synaptic dysfunction are still under investigation,the available data so far has enabled us to put forward a model that could be used as a guide to generate new therapeutic targets for pharmaceutical intervention.
