BACKGROUND： elk-1 mRNA distributes extensively in the neurons of mice, rat and human brains, and the elk-1 expression may be correlated with the synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. OBJeCTIVe： To observe the distribution of phosphorylated elk-1 （peIk-1） in whole brain of rats received Y-maze active avoidance training and the changes of peIk-1 expression at different time points after training. DeSIGN ： A randomized controlled study SeTTING ： Research room of Neurobiology, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University MATeRIALS ： Fifty-five male clean-degree SD rats of 3-4 months old, weighing 200-250 g, were provided by the experimental Animal Center of Southem Medical University. The rabbit anti-monoclonal peIk-1 antibody was purchased from Cell Signal Transduction Company, and ABC kit from Vector Company. MeTHODS ： The experiments were carried out in the Research room of Neurobiology, Second Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University from September 2004 to February 2005. ① Grouping： The rats were randomly divided into training group （n = 25）, sham-training group （n = 25） and normal control group （n = 5）, and the training and sham-training groups were observed at 0, 1, 3, 6 and 24 hours after training, which represented the five phases in the process of leaming and memory. ② Y-maze training： The rats were preconditioned in the electrical Y-maze apparatus, 20 minutes a day for 3 days continuously, and training began from the 4^th day. In the training group, the rats were trained with the combination of light and electddty. each rat repeated for 60 times in each training, and the correct times were recorded, those correct for less than 25 times were taken as unqualified, and excluded from the training group, and supplemented by other rats in time. In the sham-training group, there was no fixed correlation between the application of light and electricity. The rats in the normal contrel group were given not any training. ③Detection of peIk-

Lymphoid mononuclear cells from chick embryos at stage 16 were collected prior to fetal liver and thymus genesis to study the dif- ferentiation and function of the hematogenic yolk sac and to detect whether CD2 occurs on the surface of lymphoid mononuclear cells. The phenotype and functional activity of the cell surface protein e receptor and the ultrastructure of embryonic e~+ cells were compared with those of mature T *** results indicate 99.36% homology between the e receptors of embryonic lymphocytes and mature T *** similarities,including molecular distribution,motivation,the ability to form an erythrocyte rosette,the structure of the receptor-ligand complex,and the conformation of the signal channel,were detected between embryonic lymphocytes and mature CD2-expressing T *** results indicate that CD2 is already expressed prior to fetal liver and thymus genesis and that its expression is not dependent on the thymic microenvironment.

DNA image cytometry test for primary screening of esophageal cancer: a population-based multi-center study in high-risk areas in China

Objective： To evaluate the feasibility of DNA image cytometry （DNA-ICM） as a primary screening method for esophageal squamous cell cancer （eSCC）. Methods： A total of 5,382 local residents aged 40-69 years from three high-risk areas in China （Linzhou in Henan province, Feicheng in Shandong province and Cixian in Hebei province） from 2008 to 2011 were recruited in this population-based screening study. And 2,526 subjects declined to receive endoscopic biopsy examination with Lugol＇s iodine staining, while 9 and 815 subjects were excluded from liquid-based cytology and DNA-ICM test respectively due to slide quality. Finally, 2,856, 5,373 and 4,567 subjects were enrolled in the analysis for endoscopic biopsy examination, liquid-based cytology and DNA-ICM test, respectively. Sensitivity （Se）, specificity （SP）, negative predictive values （NPV） and positive predictive values （PPV） as well as their 95% confidence intervals （95% CI） for DNA-ICM, liquid-based cytology and the combination of the two methods were calculated. Receiver operating characteristic （ROC） curves were applied to determine the cutoff point of DNA-ICM for esophageal cancer. Results： DNA-ICM results were significantly correlative with esophageal cancer and precancer lesions （X2= 18.016, P〈0.001）. The cutoff points were 5,802, 5,803 and 8,002 based on dissimilar pathological types of low grade intraepithelial neoplasia （LGIN）, high grade intraepithelial neoplasia （HGIN）, and eSCC, respectively, and 5,803 was chosen in this study considering the Se and SP. The Se, SP, PPV, NPV of DNA-ICM test （cutoff point 5,803） combined with liquid-based cytology [threshold atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance （ASCUS）] were separately 72.1% （95% CI： 70.3%-73.9%）, 43.3% （95% CI. 41.3%-45.3%）, 22.8% （95% CI： 21.1%-24.5%） and 87.0% （95% CI： 85.7%-88.3%） for LGIN, 85.7% （95% CI： 84.3%-87.1%）, 41.3% （95% CI： 39.3%-43.3%）, 4.6% （95% CI： 3.8%-5.4%） and 98.9% （95% CI： 98.5%-99.3%） for HGIN, and 96.0% （95% CI： 95.2%

AIM:To investigate the effect of pain relief after infu-sion of ropivacaine at port sites at the end of ***:From October 2006 to September 2007,72 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC) were randomized into two groups of 36 *** group received ropivacaine infusion at the port sites at the end of LC and the other received normal saline.A visual analog scale was used to assess postoperative pain when the patient awakened in the operating room,6 and 24 h after surgery,and before *** amount of analgesics use was also *** demographics,laboratory data,hospital stay,and perioperative complications were compared between the two ***:There was no difference between the two groups preoperatively in terms of demographic and lab-oratory *** surgery,similar operation time,blood loss,and no postoperative morbidity and mortality were observed in the two ***,a significantly lower pain score was observed in the patients undergo-ing LC with local anesthesia infusion at 1 h after LC and at *** analgesic use,the amount of meperidine used 1 h after LC and the total used during admission were lower in patients undergoing LC with local anesthesia *** group also had a shorter hospital ***:Local anesthesia with ropivacaine at the port site in LC patients signif icantly decreased post-operative pain *** explains the lower meperidine use and earlier discharge for these patients.

The structural, vibrational and impedance analysis for(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)xcomposite synthesized by solid state reaction technique were carried out in the present investigation. X-ray diffraction(XRD) study showed that(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)xcomposite has hexagonal(wurtzite) crystal structure. Variation in lattice constants with Sb-doping indicated the proper incorporation of Sb dopant in Zn O host matrix. The results of Raman spectroscopy test suggested the signature of e2(high) and e1(TO) Raman modes, and verified the wurtzite structure of(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)x composite. Two additional phonon bands(671, 712) cm 1appeared in Raman spectra of composite samples due to the existence of the lattice defects caused by Sb doping or may be other intrinsic lattice defects formed during the synthesis of(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)xcomposite. The frequency dependent on the electrical characteristics, such as, impedance(Z), dielectric constant(ε) and AC conductivity(σ) have been studied in a range of frequencies for different Sb concentration at room temperature. The electrical measurement results showed that the impedance increased with Sb dopant concentration, while dielectric constant and AC conductivity decreased with Sb dopant concentration.

Holmium doped GaN diluted magnetic semiconductor thin films have been prepared by thermal evaporation technique and subsequent ammonia annealing. X-ray diffraction mea- surements reveal all peaks belong to the purely hexagonal wurtzite structure. Surface mor- phology and composition analysis were carried out by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy respectively. The room temperature ferromagnetic proper- ties of Gal-xHoxN （x=0.0, 0.05） films were analyzed using vibrating sample magnetometer at room temperature. Magnetic measurements showed that the undoped films （i.e. GaN） exhibited diamagnetic behavior, while the Ho-doped （Gao.95Hoo.05N） film exhibited a ferro- magnetic behavior.
