Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a prevalent and lethal solid tumor with a high mortality rate. Conventional cancertreatments, including surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, primarily target cancer cell eradication. However, uncontrolled proliferation and metabolic activities of these cells result in abnormalities in nutrient levels, hypoxia, and immunosuppression within the tumor microenvironment (TME). These factors constrain the efficacy of traditional treatments by promoting drug resistance, recurrence, and metastasis. Nanomaterials (NMs), such as nanozymes, can exhibit enzymatic activity similar to that of natural enzymes and offer a promising avenuefor the direct modification of the TME through catalytic oxidation-reduction processes. Moreover, they can serve as sensitizers or drug deliverycarriers, enhancing the efficacy of traditional treatment methods. Recently, NMs have garnered significant attention from oncologists. Thisreview begins with an overview of the composition and unique characteristics of the TME. Subsequently, we comprehensively exploredthe application of NMs in the treatment of HNSCC. Finally, we discuss the potential prospects and challenges associated with usingNMs in biomedical research.

Objective:To investigate the correlation between nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell WNT5A and epithelial-mesenchytnal transition(emt)/metastasis,and investigate its possible ***:RT-PCR and gene transfection were used to detect the expression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell strains WNT5A and EMT related factor *** transfcction of NPC cell line 5-8F was determined by liposome of plasmid with WNT5A *** differential expressions of WNTSA and EMT-related factors in cells before and after transfection were detected by *** scratch assay and Transwell assay were used to detect the motility abilities of cells before and after 5-8F ***:The expressions of WNT5A and EMT related factors matrix metalloproleinasc-2 of the WNTSA transferred group in the nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line 5-8F were higher than the blank control group and the empty vector transferred group,and the transfer ability of the WNTSA transferred group was higher than that in the blank control group and the empty vector transferred group,while the expressions of EMT related factors E-cadherin were lower than that in the blank control group and the empty vector transferred group,and the transfer ability of the WNT5A transferred group was higher than that in the blank control group and the empty vector transferred ***:In nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells,WNT5A can regulate the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and affect the ability of tumor invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Clinical experience has suggested the existence of an intermediate form of fungal sinusitis between the categories of non-invasive fungal sinusitis (non-IFS) and invasive fungal sinusitis (IFS).This fungal sinusitis variant demonstrates unhealthy mucosa by endoscopy with fungal invasion,but lacks angioinvasion microscopically,representing what clinically behaves as a ‘pre-invasive’ subtype of fungal *** non-IFS disease,patients with preinvasive fungal sinusitis were still felt to require anti-fungal medications due to histologic presence of invasive *** sharing some clinical features of IFS,these ‘intermediate’ patients were successfully spared extended and repeated surgical debridements given the microscopic findings,and have been successfully treated with shorter courses of antifungal *** select patients have had favorable outcomes when managed in a judicious and semi-aggressive manner,in an undefined zone between the treatments for routine fungal ball and aggressive IFS.

Gender Differences in Aesthetic Rhinoplasty Patients: A Study on Psychopathological Symptoms

The aim of the current study was to investigate the gender differences in aesthetic rhinoplasty candidates in dimensions of psychopathology. Considering the existing body of literature, it was hypothesized that women would score higher in different dimensions of psychopathology. SCL-90-R was used to evaluate the differences. This instrument consists of 10 subscales which measure depression, anxiety, phobia, hostility, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, interpersonal sensitivity, somatization, paranoid ideation, psychoticism, and added items of psychopathology. Independent t-test between male patients (n = 19) and female patients (n = 32) was performed. Findings indicated that women had higher scores in four subscales. Women had higher scores in anxiety (P < 0.01), obsessive-compulsive symptoms (P < 0.05), depression (P < 0.05), and added items (P < 0.05). Effect size measures were calculated in order for better interpretation of statistical significance tests. Findings supported the notion that women who applied for aesthetic rhinoplasty showed higher scores of anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and general psychopathological symptoms. Surgeons can utilize validated psychometric instruments in order to screen psychologically disturbed patients as these patients are more likely to show dissatisfaction after the surgery.

Intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma: A case report

Facial nerve schwannoma occurring within the parotid gland is a rare tumour. We report a case of schwannoma within the parotid gland in a young female patient, who underwent ultrasound and magnetic resonanceimaging(MRI) and subsequent surgical excision of the lesion. The lesion showed hyperintensity on T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted MRI. There was no adjacent lymphadenopathy. Although hyperintensity on diffusionweighted MRI could suggest malignant tumours, the characteristic "string sign" provided the clue for the diagnosis of schwannoma.

Last December 2019,a cluster of viral pneumonia cases identified as coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)was reported in Wuhan,*** aimed to explore the frequencies of nasal symptoms in patients with COVID-19,including loss of smell and taste,as well as their presentation as the first symptom of the disease and their association with the severity of *** this retrospective study,1206 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients were included and followed up by telephone one month after discharged from Tongji Hospital,*** data,laboratory values,comorbidities,symptoms,and numerical rating scale scores(0–10)of nasal symptoms were extracted from the hospital medical records,and confirmed or reevaluated by the telephone *** patients(n=1172)completing follow-up,199(17%)subjects had severe COVID-19 and 342(29.2%)reported nasal symptoms.20.6%COVID-19 patients had loss of taste(median score=6),while 11.4%had loss of smell(median score=5).Loss of taste scores,but not loss of smell scores,were significantly increased in severe *** COVID-19 ***(IL)-6 and lactose dehydrogenase(LDH)serum levels were positively correlated with loss of taste *** 80%of COVID-19 patients recovered from smell and taste dysfunction in 2 *** this cohort,only 1 out of 10 hospital admitted patients had loss of smell while 1 out of 5 reported loss of taste which was associated to severity of *** patients recovered smell and taste dysfunctions in 2 weeks.

Acquired Hemophilia A Simulating Retropharyngeal Abscess: Importance of Differential Diagnosis of Neck Masses before Surgery

The coexistence of acquired hemophilia A with a secondary retropharyngeal hematoma is an extremely unusual condition with important clinical implications. The purpose of this paper is to present a case involving a patient whose first clinical manifestation, namely dysphagia, along with specific clinical examination and imaging findings, led to an incorrect initial diagnosis of a retropharyngeal abscess. However, performance of a more thorough clinical examination led to the correct diagnosis of a hematoma secondary to acquired hemophilia A. This allowed surgery to be avoided in a patient at a high risk of bleeding. Conclusions: Acute neck masses require meticulous differential diagnosis assessing the possible presence of various causative systemic diseases before the most appropriate therapy can be determined.
