Introduction: The acronym SAPHO (Synovitis, Acne, Pustulosis, Hyperostosis and Osteitis) is a syndrome combining osteoarticular and cutaneous manifestations. It occurs mainly between the ages of 30 and 50. Sternocostoclavicular hyperostosis is one of the main distinguishing features. We report a case of SAPHO in Dakar diagnosed by bone scintigraphy. Observation: 28-year-old Senegalese women presented with left shoulder pain and relative functional impotence for over 2 years. Examination revealed right sternoclavicular hyperostosis and left shoulder pain on palpation. Questioning revealed a history of acne and hyperostosis of the right first toe. Bone scintigraphy, performed after injection of 630 MBq of 99mTc-HMDP, revealed: hyperfixation of the bilateral (right++) manubrio-sternal and sternoclavicular junction, producing the classic bull’s horn image;hyperfixation of the left shoulder with an inflammatory appearance;hyperfixation of the sacroiliac joints suggestive of bilateral sacroiliitis;hyperfixation of the right first toe;two mandibular hyper fixations probably related to dental damage. This scintigraphic appearance in one was strongly suggestive of SAPHO syndrome. Conclusion: SAPHO syndrome, related to spondyloarthropathy, associates cutaneous and osteoarticular signs. It is characterized by frequent delays in diagnosis due to poor recognition. Soy is an invaluable diagnostic tool, enabling us to assess the extent of the disease and its evolution.

The computerized LASSI-BC Test versus the Standard LASSI-L Paper-and-Pencil Version in Community-Based-Samples

Proactive Semantic Interference (PSI) and failure to recover from PSI (frPSI), are novel constructs assessed by the LASSI-L. These measures are sensitive to cognitive changes in early Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and preclinical AD determined by Aβ load using PET. The goal of this study was to compare a new computerized version of the LASSI-L (LASSI-Brief Computerized) to the standard paper-and-pencil version of the test. In this study, we examined 110 cognitively unimpaired (CU) older adults and 79 with amnestic MCI (aMCI) who were administered the paper-and-pencil form of the LASSI-L. Their performance was compared with 62 CU older adults and 52 aMCI participants examined using the LASSI-BC. After adjustment for covariates (degree of initial learning, sex, education, and language of evaluation) both the standard and computerized versions distinguished between aMCI and CU participants. The performance of CU and aMCI groups using either form was relatively commensurate. Importantly, an optimal combination of Cued B2 recall and Cued B1 intrusions on the LASSI-BC yielded an area under the ROC curve of .927, a sensitivity of 92.3% and specificity of 88.1%, relative to an area under the ROC curve of .815, a sensitivity of 72.5%, and a specificity of 79.1% obtained for the paper-and-pencil LASSI-L. Overall, the LASSI-BC was comparable, and in some ways, superior to the paper-and-pencil LASSI-L. Advantages of the LASSI-BC include a more standardized administration, suitability for remote assessment, and an automated scoring mechanism that can be verified by a built-in audio recording of responses.

Association between lifestyle factors and thyroid function in young euthyroid adults

Evaluation Indicators of Traditional Chinese medicine Syndromes for Gouty Arthritis with Damp Heat Accumulation and the Effect of Administering Tongfeng Qingxiao formula(痛风清消方)

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the indicators of an animal model of gouty arthritis (GA) with dampness heat accumulation and the intervention effect of Tongfeng Qingxiao formula (痛风清消方， TFQXF).METHODS: Seventy-two healthy adult Sprague-Dawley male rats were selected and randomly divided into a normal group， model group， low-dose group， medium-dose group， high-dose group， and diclofenac group using a random number table method， with 12 rats in each group. After group intervention， the general condition of the rats in each group was monitored and recorded， and the swelling index was measured. After separating the serum， the changes in glutamic pyruvic transaminase (ALT)， glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (AST)， carbamide (UREA)， creatinine (CREA)， triglyceride (TG)， total serum cholesterol (TC)， low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)， and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in the serum of the rats in each group were measured using an automatic biochemical analyzer. The levels of motilin (MTL)， gastrin (GAS)， endothelin (ET)， calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)， heat shock protein 70 (HSP70)， interleukin (IL)-1β， and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) in the serum of the rats in each group were evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. Kidney tissues were used to evaluate the protein and mRNA expression of aquaporin (AQP)1 and AQP2. Colon tissue was used to evaluate the protein and mRNA expression of AQP3 and AQP4 by Western blotting (WB) assay and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The levels of ALT， AST， UREA， and CREA were used to evaluate the liver and kidney function of rats. The levels of MTL and GAS were used to evaluate the gastrointestinal function of rats. OBJECTIVE: To explore the multi-component synergistic mechanism of Zuogui Wan(左归丸, ZGW) in treating postmenopausal osteoporosis(PMOP). METHODS: The main components and target genes of ZGW were screened via the Traditional Chinese medicine Systems Pharmacology(TCMSP). In addition, the target gene sets of PMOP were derived from the Gene Cards and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man databases. The search tool for recurring instances of neighbouring genes(STRING) 11.0 software was used to analyze the interaction among intersecting genes. Cytoscape 3.6.1 software and the Matthews correlation coefficient(MCC) algorithm were used to screen the core genes. Fifty Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly divided into the sham-operated(Sham) group and the four ovariectomized(OVX) subgroups. Rats subjected to Sham or OVX were administered with the vehicle(OVX, 1 m L water/100 g weight), 17β-estradiol(E2, 50 μg·kg-1·d-1), and lyophilized powder of ZGW at a low dose of 2.3(ZGW-L) and high dose of 4.6(ZGW-H) g·kg-1·d-1 for three months. The bone density and bone strength were assessed using dual-energy X-ray and three-point bending tests, respectively. Furthermore, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Hematoxylin-eosin staining, and western blot analysis were used to determine the potential pharmacological mechanisms of action of ZGW in PMOP. RESULTS: A total of 117 active compounds of ZGW were screened from the TCMSP. Furthermore, 108 intersecting genes of drugs and diseases were identified. Using STRING software and the MCC algorithm, ten core genes, including C-X-C chemokine living 8(CXCL8), C-C chemokine receptor type 2(CCR2), alpha-2a active receptor(ADRA2A), melatonin receptor type 1B(MTNR1B), and amyloid-beta A4 protein(APP), were identified. The anti-osteoporosis regulation network of ZGW was constructed using the Cytoscape software.
