Thrombosis is the major stumbling block to the clinical application of blood-contacting ***,a quick and easy surface engineering strategy of hydrogel coating with the therapeutic gas nitric oxide(NO)generation was reported to realize up-regulation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate(c GMP)and improve hemocompatibility for diverse metal *** first introduce the active centre selenocysteine of glutathione peroxidase(GPx)to the self-assembling peptide(RADA)4,obtaining a functionalized *** the hydrogel is directly coated on the 316L stainless steel(SS)for catalytically generating NO from endogenous s-nitrosothiols(RSNO).The generated NO endows the coated surface with regulation of platelet behavior and reduction of plasmatic coagulation activation and complement system activation,hence improving antithrombotic ability in vitro and ex ***,our NO-generating hydrogel coating surface engineering strategy provides a novel solution to remove the obstacle about thrombosis of blood-contacting devices in clinic.

Since the start of the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in January 2020,the pandemic has been raging on for 3 years,with a devastating impact on human health,resulting globally in 663,248,631 confirmed infections and 6,709,387 confirmed deaths as of January 19,2023.1 Facing this remarkably fast developing pandemic with limited knowledge on many aspects of the disease,including transmission,effective infection control,morbidity and treatment,researchers and practitioners worldwide have switched their focus to COVID-19–related research and *** to incomplete statistics,more than 330,000 COVID-19–related publications have been indexed in PubMed by January 19,2023,2 which carried out comprehensive and multifaceted studies on *** research findings have played a key role in controlling the spread of COVID-19,treating severe and/or critical cases,and reducing the morbidity and mortality.

The thermal conductivity of diamond particles reinforced copper matrix composite as an attractive thermal management material is significantly lowered by the non-wetting *** paper investigates the heat transport behavior between a 200-nm Cu layer and a single-crystalline diamond substrate inserted by a chromium(Cr)interlayer having a series of thicknesses from 150 nm down to 5 *** purpose is to detect the impact of the modifying interlayer thickness on the interfacial thermal conductance(h)between Cu and *** time-domain thermoreflectance measurements suggest that the introduction of Cr interlayer dramatically improves the h between Cu and diamond owing to the enhanced interfacial adhesion and bridged dissimilar phonon states between Cu and *** h value exhibits a decreasing trend as the Cr interlayer becomes thicker because of the increase in thermal resistance of Cr *** high h values are observed for the Cr interlayer thicknesses below 21 nm since phononic transport channel dominates the thermal conduction in the ultrathin Cr *** findings provide a way to tune the thermal conduction across the metal/nonmetal heterogeneous interface,which plays a pivotal role in designing materials and devices for thermal management applications.

Chinese expert consensus on minimally invasive radical surgery for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (version 2022)

Various types of minimally invasive pancreatic surgery have been carried out in the last decades with promising outcomes reported by early explorers. Nevertheless, there are still controversies on oncologic outcomes and safety in the use of minimally invasive radical surgery for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This consensus, referring to Chinese expert opinions and worldwide researches, aimed to discuss the related issues on minimally invasive radical surgery for PDAC to ensure the perioperative and oncological outcomes. Quality of evidence and strength of recommendations were evaluated based on the GRADE approach. The 15 recommendations covered 5 topics: oncological outcomes and patient safety of laparoscopic and robotic pancreatoduodenectomy, left-side pancreatectomy for PDAC, learning curve, safety of neoadjuvant therapy, and vascular resection in minimally invasive radical surgery for PDAC. This consensus gives reference and guidance to surgeons on the use of minimally invasive radical surgery for PDAC. Although this consensus is not sufficient to answer all the questions about minimally invasive radical surgery for PDAC, it represents the current consensus on the application of the techniques in the treatment of PDAC on the Chinese mainland.

Meta-analysis reveals an association between acute pancreatitis and the risk of pancreatic cancer

BACKGROUND Chronic pancreatitis is associated with pancreatic cancer(PC),although the relationship between acute pancreatitis(AP)and the risk of PC remains unclear due to inconsistent and contradictory *** To conduct a meta-analysis of retrospective and prospective studies to explore the association between AP and PC *** We first searched original articles on the association of AP with PC using PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane,and EMBASE *** we calculated the combined overall effect estimates(EEs)between AP and PC risk at a 95%confidence interval(CI)deploying a random-effects model,and assessed heterogeneity using the I2 *** combined relative risk with 95%CI was performed to examine the relationship between AP and *** bias and subgroup analyses were also ***,we performed sensitivity analysis to explain this *** Eleven studies were eligible for inclusion standards in this meta-analysis,resulting in pooled EEs of 2.07(95%CI:1.36-2.78)for AP and PC ***,five prospective cohort studies reported 103961 patients in the AP group,relative to 1442158 subjects in the control group,with a pooled relative risk of 7.81(95%CI:5.00-12.19).We also performed subgroup analyses using different follow-up times and type of research methods(case-control or cohort).Results from analyses of different follow-up times revealed the following pooled effect values:1-year lag period(EEs=23.47,95%CI:3.26-43.68),2-year lag period(EEs=9.82,95%CI:3.01-16.64),5-year lag period(EEs=2.47,95%CI:1.93-3.02),10-year lag period(EEs=1.69,95%CI:1.26-2.11),and>10-year lag period(EEs=1.17,95%CI:0.78-1.57).With regards to the methods,the case-control studies recorded EEs=3.03(95%CI:-1.02 to 7.08),whereas cohort studies had EEs=2.09(95%CI:1.22-2.97)pooled effect *** Overall,our findings indicated an association between AP and PC *** on subgroup analyses,AP is unlikely to be a causal factor for PC.

ZmDRR206 functions in maintaining cell wall integrity during maize seedling growth and defense response to external stresses

Plants adaptively change their cell wall composition and structure during their growth,development,and interactions with environmental *** proteins(DIRs)contribute to environmental adaptations by dynamically reorganizing the cell wall and/or by generating defense compounds.A maize DIR,ZmDRR206,was previously reported to play a dominant role in regulation of storage nutrient accumulation in endosperm during maize kernel *** we show that ZmDRR206 mediates maize seedling growth and disease resistance by coordinately regulating biosynthesis of cell wall components for cell-wall integrity(CWI)*** of ZmDRR206 was induced in maize seedlings upon pathogen ***206 overexpression in maize resulted in reduced seedling growth and photosynthetic activity but increased disease resistance and drought tolerance,revealing a tradeoff between growth and ***,ZmDRR206 overexpression reduced the contents of primary metabolites and down-regulated genes involved in photosynthesis,while increasing the contents of major cell wall components,defense phytohormones,and defense metabolites,and up-regulated genes involved in defense and cell-wall biosynthesis in ***206-overexpressing seedlings were resistant to cell-wall stress imposed by isoxaben,and ZmDRR206 physically interacted with ZmCesA10,which is a cellulose synthase *** findings suggest a mechanism by which ZmDRR206 coordinately regulates biosynthesis of cell-wall components for CWI maintenance during maize seedling growth,and might be exploited for breeding strong disease resistance in maize.

Vibro parahemolyticus,always recovered from seafood,is the most prevalent foodborne pathogen in Eastern ***,the detection rate of Vibro parahemolyticus in freshwater fish has gradually increased in recent years,and the characteristic and pathogenicity of those isolates is *** this study,68 *** isolates were identified through investigation of 421 freshwater fish samples from 10 cities in Eastern *** isolates were divided into 8 0 types by serotyping test,of which 2 isolates were O3:*** results showed that 2 isolates were positive for tdh,1 was positive for trh and pandemic markers(ORF8 and GS-PCR).Most isolates were sensitive to common antibiotic agents except for *** diversity of the isolates were assame by multilocus sequence typing(MLST),the Vibro parahemolyticus isolated from freshwater fish show great diversity in MLST phenotype.

Background: The increasing prevalence of colorectal cancer(CRC) in China and the paucity of information about relevant expenditure highlight the necessity of better understanding the financial burden and effect of CRC diagnosis and treatment. We performed a survey to quantify the direct medical and non-medical expenditure as well as the resulting financial burden of CRC patients in ***: We conducted a multicenter, cross-sectional survey in 37 tertiary hospitals in 13 provinces across China between 2012 and 2014. Each enrolled patient was interviewed using a structured questionnaire. All expenditure data were inflated to the 2014 Chinese Yuan(CNY; 1 CNY = 0.163 USD). We quantified the overall expenditure and financial burden and by subgroup(hospital type, age at diagnosis, sex, education, occupation, insurance type, household income, clinical stage, pathologic type, and therapeutic regimen). We then performed generalized linear modeling to determine the factors associated with overall ***: A total of 2356 patients with a mean age of 57.4 years were included, 57.1 % of whom were men; 13.9% of patients had stage I cancer; and the average previous-year household income was 54,525 *** overall average direct expenditure per patient was estimated to be 67,408 CNY, and the expenditures for stage Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, and Ⅳ disease were 56,099 CNY, 59,952 CNY, 67,292 CNY, and 82,729 CNY, respectively. Non-medical expenditure accounted for 8.3%of the overall expenditure. The 1-year out-of-pocket expenditure of a newly diagnosed patient was 32,649 CNY, which accounted for 59.9% of their previous-year household income and caused 75.0% of families to suffer an unmanageable financial burden. Univariate analysis showed that financial burden and overall expenditure differed in almost all subgroups(P < 0.05), except for sex.
