To the Editor:5q spinal muscular atrophy(5qSMA)is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorder caused by the lack of the survival motor neuron(SMN)protein encoded by the SMN1 gene,located at 5q11.2-q13.3.[1]The incidence is 1/10,000-1/6000 live births,and the mutation carrier rate in China is 1/42.[1]Spinal muscular atrophy(SMA)is mainly divided into four subtypes:SMA type I,II,III,and IV,based on the motor milestones ever *** I-III occur in children,[1]which often result in progressive muscular atrophy and weakness as well as multi-system dysfunction,including nutritional and metabolic issues.[2]Children with SMA may have hidden nutritional and lipid imbalances,despite normal body appearance and anthropometric measurements,making it difcult to detect early and intervene.

Background:Toxoplasmic encephalitis(TE)is the most frequent cause of expansive brain lesions among patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS).However,the optimal timing of antiretroviral therapy(ART)initiation in these patients remains *** study aims to investigate the differences in outcomes of ART initiation at different times,in order to help clarify the treatment timing of AIDS-associated ***:This multicenter prospective observational study included 87 patients recruited from 11 research centers in China(from March 2019 to December 2022).Of the patients,38 were assigned to the early ART group(initiating ART within 2 weeks after anti-Toxoplasma treatment initiation),and the remaining 49 patients received deferred ART(initiating ART at least 2 weeks after anti-Toxoplasma treatment initiation).The main outcomes includedmortality and emergence of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome(IRIS).Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-1 viral load and CD4^(+)T-cell counts at weeks 24 and 48 were ***:The number of deaths(1 vs.5,P=0.225)and incidence of IRIS(2.6%vs.0,P=0.437)were not significantly different between the early and deferred ART groups at week *** ART initiation did not contribute significantly to HIV-1 viral load control(clinical trials under the title of a general project at the Chinese clinical Trial Registry(***)on February 1,***

Introduction:To examine the recent trends in child injury mortality in ***:Injury mortality data of 2010–2021 for children and adolescents aged 0–19 years were from the China health Statistics *** mortality disparities across urban *** locations,gender,and age groups were *** percent change(APC),average annual percent change(AAPC),and their 95%confidence intervals(95%CI)were estiamted usimg Joinpoint regression ***:The age-standardized injury mortality significantly dropped from 21.87 to 9.41 per 100,000 population among children and youth aged 0–19 years during 2010–2021,with an AAPC of−6.7%(95%CI:−8.2%,−5.2%).The urban-rural disparity and gender gap in injury mortality reduced *** 2021,drowning and road traffic crashes were the top two causes of child injury deaths,explaing 31.1%and 27.9%of total injury deaths,*** accounted for 62.3%of injury deaths among infants younger than a ***,the suicide mortality rate rose from 2.16 to 3.42 per 100,000 population between 2010 and 2021 among teenagers aged 15–19 *** analyses yielded similar ***:During 2010–2021,the injury mortality decreased significantly among Chinese children and adolescents,and the responding urbanrural disparities narrowed.

The risk of mpox importation and subsequent outbreak potential in Chinese mainland: a retrospective statistical modelling study

Background The 2022-2023 mpox(monkeypox)outbreak has spread rapidly across multiple countries in the non-endemic region,mainly among men who have sex with men(MSM).In this study,we aimed to evaluate mpox's importation risk,border screening effectiveness and the risk of local outbreak in Chinese *** We estimated the risk of mpox importation in Chinese mainland from April 14 to September 11,2022 using the number of reported mpox cases during this multi-country outbreak from *** and the international air-travel data from Official Aviation *** constructed a probabilistic model to simulate the effectiveness of a border screening scenario during the mpox outbreak and a hypothetical scenario with less stringent quarantine *** we further evaluated the mpox outbreak potential given that undetected mpox infections were introduced into men who have sex with men,considering different transmissibility,population immunity and population *** We found that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy decreased about 94% and 69% mpox importations *** the quarantine policy,15-19% of imported infections would remain *** a case of mpox is introduced into active MSM population with almost no population immunity,the risk of triggering local transmission is estimated at 42%,and would rise to>95% with over six *** Our study demonstrates that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy during the COvID-19 pandemic reduced mpox importations ***,the risk could be sub-stantially higher with the recovery of air-travel volume to pre-pandemic *** could emerge as a public health threat for Chinese mainland given its large MSM community.

Construction of Prediction Model of Foodborne Disease Outbreaks and Its Trend Prediction—Guizhou Province,China,2023-2025

Objective:Foodborne diseases pose a significant public health concern *** study aims to analyze the correlation between disease prevalence and climatic conditions,forecast the pattern of foodborne disease outbreaks,and offer insights for effective prevention and control strategies and optimizing health resource allocation policies in Guizhou ***:This study utilized theχ^(2) test and four comprehensive prediction models to analyze foodborne disease outbreaks recorded in the Guizhou Foodborne Disease Outbreak system between 2012 and *** best-performing model was chosen to forecast the trend of foodborne disease outbreaks in Guizhou Province,***:Significant variations were observed in the incidence of foodborne disease outbreaks in Guizhou Province concerning various meteorological factors(all P≤0.05).Among all models,the SARIMA-ARIMAX combined model demonstrated the most accurate predictive performance(RMSE:Prophet model=67.645,SARIMA model=3.953,ARIMAX model=26.544,SARIMA-ARIMAX model=26.196;MAPE:Prophet model=42.357%,SARIMA model=37.740%,ARIMAX model=15.289%,SARIMA-ARIMAX model=13.961%).Conclusion:The analysis indicates that foodborne disease outbreaks in Guizhou Province demonstrate distinct seasonal *** is recommended to concentrate prevention efforts during peak *** SARIMA-ARIMAX hybrid model enhances the precision of monthly forecasts for foodborne disease outbreaks,offering valuable insights for future prevention and control strategies.
